Kogan 5-in-1 Combo Scanner Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: KASCNCMB51BHi I purchased a Kogan 5-in -1 combo scanner from Dick Smith Australian but it has never worked to my satisfaction. Can someone please give me who I can get to help me? I live in Tauranga New Zealand. I am Graham Tucker email [Email Address Removed]
Hi Graham, That scanner is a terribly cheap and nasty, nasty piece of Chinese-made RUBBISH. I send mine back to KOGAN for a refund. It just provides are really terrible quality scan of your photos. I have the KOGAN Premium Scanner (Also made in China - but then again EVERYTHING seems to be made there) but it is okay. Quite a good result can be obtained! It's not great, but it is a million times better than the 5 in one rubbish. Send it back for a refund, or if that's not possible, simply throw it in the bin and move on with your photography and scanning with a better product. Unfortunately, there are barely any decent scanning products out there at the moment.
Hi I purchased a Kogan 5-1 combo scanner from you but I am unable to get it to work as in the handbook can you provide me with some help please ? I am Dr Graham Tucker email [Email Address Removed]
why can't I save my images to SD card
put slides in have sd card in press mode press capture right arrow once to show solid square not film press capture capture it works
How to view a slide from negative to positive.
Sorry I don’t know. I sent this back to Kogan as the quality was dreadful. The 14Mp combo scanner is the better product. Although, the colour reproduction is not quite good enough.
How do I get the correct Mode to appear. I "accidently" got more than the first five modes - which I need to save my slides, and after turning the device off, after actually managing to copy some slides, the correct mode will not return, no matter how many buttons I press. Please help.
I’m sorry I have no idea. I couldn’t get it to work properly and the few photos I scanned were soo bad I notified Kogan and sent it straight back for a refund. I bought the Premium 14 Mp scanner which is quite a lot better. Not great, but 100% better than the one you have. I suggest go to the Kogan website and arrange a return for credit and buy the Premium scanner.
Don't even try. The machine does not work, and is absolute rubbish. Throw it in the bin.
I eventually copied over 400 slides sucessfully this is how I did it in point form:- SD card inserted turn on machine press mode press ok/capture press mode right arrow to slide symbol press ok/capture then ok/capture to save I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR EVERYONE HAVING PROBLEMS regards Lynn
Has anybody returned this heap of junk to Kogan and sought a refund?
what is the point of plugging the USB into a PC ????
How do I attach my combo scanner to my tv to review slides before saving them. Does it have to be a smart tv? I’d appreciate any help at all, I’ve had my scanner for a long time and every time I try it gets all too hard for me and I pack it away, but this time I’m desperate I want to copy my slides onto my sad card. Thank you Lynn
Hi can anyone help me? I just bought the 5 in 1 Combo scanner. I have turned it on, put in the mirror and SD card. However it just says "Goodbye". I can't press the mode button because it dosen't work. Can anyone help to get me started? Thanks
Send it back. It’s useless.
Yes you are right. Thanks
I am having the exact same issue. Am beginning to think it is the SD card. When there is no card I the machine all of the menus work fine. The moment the SD card is put into the machine it says goodbye and turns off. If I start with the sad card I the machine then it automatically turns off.
I'm having the exact same issue too. Very frustrating and disappointing. Looks like the hassle of a return.
i was having trouble as well, when i went to save, the options did not come up, i got the goodbye message as well. what i found fixed it, was to change the sd card holder to a different one, once i did that, it worked
How do I get the scanner to change from negative to slides? I've tried what it very vaguely says in manual but cannot get off negative.
Hi Dorothy. The instructions are Chinese to English translations and are useless. I’m afraid that this particular scanner is junk. I had it and sent it back for a refund. The quality of the scan is shocking. It’s a piece of Chinese made junk fit for one purpose and that is the RUBBISH BIN! Maybe ask for a refund, as I think Kogan should stop stocking such a junky unit and send them all back to China. If you sent it back, Kogan should refund you, as the unit really does not work properly. There is a scanner that does work and that’s the Kogan Premium Film and photo scanner - 14MP. I have it and it’s fine. Maybe replace your with this one - you will find it quite good.
Will never work. Throw it in the bin like I did. Absolute con.
You’re right there! I had it one day and sent it right back. Rubbish.
Thanks for your replies. I have discovered how to get the slide function. You press OK more icons appear including one for slides. The quality is not great but the slides are very old and not in good condition. I am quite happy with the unit now.

Thank you for the details. I have successfully scanned my slides now Dorothy
I have bought this product and when I insert the slides, a picture is there but the colors are not true, it is blurry, I can see the slides with a torch and they are still good colors, very disappointed, looks like my last Kogan product. Tony
This is the same problem I am having
i have a red dot flashing on top left and image looks like it is a negative but it is a colour slide
the included instructions are very tricky and I couldn't get it to work either, I ended up finding instructions online and eventually got it to work, however the results are very disappointing, the images come up very dark and I wouldn't recommend this scanner if you want to scan old slides.
Can you describe tricky, I just can’t follow them very unclear

Does anyone know what diameter the power supply plug is as i have lost the original one. Stuart
Hi Lynne what type of SD card did you use. Every time I put an SD card in the unit it switches off and says goodbye.
Hi, The write up for this 5 in 1 combo scanner says that the product has a Automatic focus and Adjustment Mechanism. All my 35mm slides I have viewed on the product are out of focus. And after saving the image and replaying it from the sd card or from the computer, after downloading it, the image is way out of focus. How can the focus be adjusted or corrected?
I don't believe there is any autofocus adjustment, only fixed. Did not have any problem with that. The biggest problem I had was colour correction was very poor for negatives. In fact its terrible. I will most likely have to get additional software to correct it . There should be a test negative for calibration purposes... Not ..
This product is totally rubbish. Kogan should stop importing this kind of rubbish. I was not able scan at all. Very difficult to contact customer support of Kogan.
G'day everyone. Please read all my threads about this product. I took my unit to a specialist repairer over a month ago and they called me about the repair yesterday. Basically, they said the unit cannot be repaired. They agreed with me when I suggested that the product wasn't actually designed to work and certainly not for repair. The product is rubbish. They also said that Kogan was of no assistance whatsoever, as was the instruction book. They tried all different types of SD cards, made no difference. It would be better if it allowed direct download via USB to a computer, but again, it doesn't. So, I spent $80 to find out that this product is only good for landfill. Sorry, I was hoping for a better result, not only for myself, but everyone else.
My three units ended up in the recycle bin at the local tip
I should have read these reviews before purchasing Only fit for land fill
Yes, hindsight is a real nuisance. Mine was a present that I stuck away for too long until I had the time, warranty ran out and too late to get a refund. And Kogan no help whatsoever.
damn i didn't read this review. I have all of mentioned problems. What expensive rubbish this is.
G'day Dev L. Sorry to hear another bad luck story about the Kogan 5-in-1 Combo Scanner. Every so often, I drag my unit out in the hope it has had a miraculous cure, but no, disappointed every time. I borrowed a friends little unit, called, Qpix Digital Film Scanner, Model No. FS-170, not much bigger than a Rubics cube, only does slides, very restrictive, but did the job. He said his son bought it for him from Kmart, but I haven't been able to trace it there. Google it and a couple of products come up for about $70, just make sure it is in Australia, one was at Regents Park near Sydney. I just did a rough job. In case I ever win Lotto, I will pay the 80cents to $1+ each, for someone do do them professionally. Thanks.
Just got product and when I turn it on nothing happens except blue light comes on in the middle of top for about 20 seconds and then turns off. Is this a dud or am I doing something wrong. Nothing comes up on screen at all
I think it is a dud. I have had three units & none worked satisfactorily. One thought, did you insert the SD card first?
yes i was unaware it even needed an sd card my last scanner from transonic was a simple plug and play device with a disc
Yes I bought the sd card with it and inserted before I turned on thanks for your answer. Surely this product should be withdrawn
same
Not sure if you all received this, but I took my product to JVP on the18th of May 2020 and am still waiting to hear back from them. As soon as I hear anything, I will publish the result. Thanks. Norm.
can you save direct to your computer as am having trouble saving the the SD card
G'day Heather L. No You cannot save direct to computer and good luck trying to get it to work anyway.
Yes you can. On my Mackbook - open finder & you should see the file, I think named no name. Open it up & you should see all photo files. You can open & file where you want them. Also mine downloaded into Dropbox file named camera uploads ( that is when it worked sometimes)
1 From Slides I can only get Negative results. 2 After scanning one on the slide carrier I get a lock up sign and cannot show the other three on the slide
1. Make sure you use the mode button twice if necessary, ist to select film then ok 2nd to select slide (the second icon from left) then ok, then push ok/capture 2. That was also one of my problems which I could not solve. had to turn off power & try again which was only successful sometimes.
I can get a photo to scan and it comes up pretty well, but despite selecting the required mode etc, the negatives are just coming up as white i.e. no image at all. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Kat
To everyone that has reviewed this product and not happy and/or if it doesn't work. I will be taking my machine to a place called JVP Service Centre at Marrickville, who do repairs on electronic equipment including TV's, HiFi's, projectors, etc. They charge $80 just to look at the unit. I will let you know how I get on. Although my machine had never been out of the box since it was given to me 2 or 3 years ago for Christmas, Kogan washed their hands of my complaint. So if anyone isn't going to get their money back from Kogan, this JVP place might be the answer. I will let you all know how I get on. Thanks. I don't want to hear from Kogan !!!
Any luck on this Norm? My machine goes blank/power saving mode when I press "capture" and nothing is saving to SD card.
G'day All, Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about this. I took my machine to JVP on the 18th of May 2020 and am still waiting for them to call me. Rest assured, when I know, you all will know. Thanks for your patience.
I am having trouble changing mode. Do I just have to press "mode" button, please? I can download film but not slides - all come in as negatives - I have tried mode plus OK
Set up the machine, turn on and press Mode and icons should come up on the screen, use the arrows on the left to scroll to whatever you are trying to scan, press OK/Capture, the another set of icons should come up, again use the arrows to move to whatever icon you need, press Ok/Capture. Make sure everything is in place before you turn the machine on. Thanks.
Thank you Norm - I have done what you have suggested but photos are still more like negatives - cannot get the positive yet. Will try again tomorrow - Blessings
I am having problems also mode button does not show the icon for slides but somehow I did get it once copied 36 slides successfully but now cannot get the slide icon whew this is very trying, if I could afford to toss out my machine I would but I can’t so I have to persevere
I have given up trying to get it to work. Total waste of my money and still getting offers to buy one
I have taken my 5-in-1 scanner out of the box, plugged it in and powered it up, after 12 seconds the screen reads “good by” and turns off. How does this work, it has been plugged into the power for a couple of hours
Make sure you follow the basics; insert SD card before pressing power button. Also try a low capacity SD card, 8 or16 GB' s. You could also switch off at power point and switch on again after about 20 seconds. Press the mode button before the 12 seconds are up. Read instructions again very carefully and keep trying, as I did. Good luck!
