Kogan Series 9 RF9230 (42")

Good TV for a good price – This TV isn’t perfect but for the fairly low price tag it performs well. The picture quality is great, though I’ve never been particularly fussy about that kind of thing and don’t watch a lot of very high definition movies, for things like netflix and youtube it’s flawless. The sound quality isn’t anything great but I plugged in a speaker system which took care of that, the app selection that comes preinstalled is excellent and saves a lot of time on setup.

My biggest complaint is of ‘lag’ when pressing remote buttons, I’m not sure if its signal lag (a delay in receiving information from the remote) or if it’s processing lag (perhaps the TVs processor is a little slow), but when trying to navigate the menu I regularly have to wait 5 seconds or so for the TV to do as I’ve asked! Kind of frustrating, this is my first smart TV so I’m not sure how common that is. The remote is also quite loud with its clicks, you wouldn’t want someone sleeping next to you while you operated it. Also while setting up my accounts, the remote was a little too sensitive, pressing a key once would often input a letter twice forcing me to navigate to the undo option several times during a single account setup. Luckily that’s the kind of thing you only need to do during the initial setup process.

I was glad to be able to install Apple TV app on this TV which allowed me to access the vast selection of movies I’ve purchased from apple over the years, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do that with an Android TV so that was a nice surprise.

Overall I’m quite happy with it, small gripes aside, if this had been a more expensive item I’d hold it against them a bit more but for this price ($369) I am satisfied with the value to quality ratio.
