Small and compact. Easy to set up. Watched 2 episodes on a DVD and was fine. Although noticed that the timer would count upwards and get to 10min then restart again. Tried to watch a DVD movie the next night. The machine made a horrible high pitched sound and nothing would display on the tv. Turned off and on. Did the same thing again. Cleaned DVD… Read more
disc, did the same thing. Tried another DVD and did the exact same thing. Yes it's cheap, but I thought it would last longer than 2 episodes!!

Purchase this DVD player from Big W Approx 2 years ago. It’s hardly been used, in fact I can’t recall the last time it was used I had a previous Laser DVD player, a much larger unit and I had it for many many years. This models a piece junk. Show details
Laser DVD HD-012 – Recently purchased one fromm Har... Nor... Discovered remote was not very responsive, very archaic software, no real explanation of how to use the settings which are displayed apart from the obvious. Some functions on remote do not work, The unit claims to be able to play AVI divx files from USB drive but it does not. When unit returned for a… Read more
refund, HN discovered all the units had the same problem and one unit had a faulty power cable (ie. could not power up the unit). Buyers beware buy at your own risk. PS after contacting supplier 3 times, no answer on last two emails, until I wrote a 4th to give them feedback on the extremely poor customer service and poor product quality. Finally received response after this, but no apology for my experience with their product or support feedback.
Don't waste your money – DVD's constantly freezing and some don't play at all. Unit very noisy like it's really struggling to play DVD. Don't waste your money buying this brand. Better to pay for a known brand Show details
Great little unit that works well for my purpose – My trusty Pioneer CD player gave up the ghost recently after 25 years of faithful performance. As a replacement I purchased a JVC DVD player that claimed to work well on all CD's including CDRW's from Woolworths Lilydale for $49.00. I had to return this as it would frequently pause mid track. I bought the cheaper Laser DVD-HD012 model for $37.00,… Read more
and it works perfectly playing all types of CDs as well as MP3's with a top-quality sound. It certainly lives up to the claim on the box of being the #1 DVD player in Australia/NZ as far as CD performance is concerned. The 3 Year warranty is a bonus.
Okay DVD player – Update: not too long after I posted this review, the DVD player started to make weird chugging sounds. More recently, the door stopped opening without us tilting the player downwards to help it along, and the disc freezing issue has made it hard to watch things for very long. So all up, it was really only good for about a year before I started to… Read more
have issues. I guess you get what you pay for.
I got this DVD player after moving to Australia from Canada - I had brought a few of my favourite movies and TV series with me, so I needed something that was region-free, and wanted something no-frills. This is a pretty suitable player. It's worked well on everything I played.
I did have a bit of an issue with it with some discs, where it'd freeze playing and was pretty hard to get back to the main menu - though it's hard to tell if it was the discs or the player, I got the impression it was the player since it had the same issue over a few discs. We didn't use it for a while, but when we went back to play a different series like a month later, it seemed to work just fine again, and we haven't had any issues since. So maybe it was just being glitchy for a while there.
We've had this player for about a year and a half, and aside from the above, we've had no issues with it.
Easiest thing i have ever set up. Please stop asking how to fix things. I don't know. I am not having issues – Being tech savvy but not in the setting up of items i thought this dvd player was the easiest thing i have ever done. Thank you for making it easy. Please please stop asking me how to fix things I don't know. I haven't had issues with mine. Show details · 1
It’s great – I recently bought a laser dvd from big w for a surprisingly cheap $34 it plays well but sometimes takes a little time to load but that’s probably because it Is reading from a disc that I copied from my computer it doesn’t take as long with a store bought dvd To load so I’m always hoping that it can read my dvds and it usually does only one did it… Read more · 1
not read a disc I had made it doesn’t do blue rays but does do pretty much anything else also you can put a usb in it to which is a great feature if your tv hasn’t got a us. Outlet !over all for the price my mum And dad went and bought 2 and they have had no problem so far it’s great value for your money highly recommend !!
Great little DVD player – It's super-compact, has HDMI, Composite and USB inputs. Works perfect and cots cheaper than nuts (literally!) Full remote control is included. It has all programming functions a big DVD player has.
You get what you pay for – We've managed to watch DVD's but the remote buttons stopped doing what they were supposed to do (we had to go through all the buttons to figure out how to play etc). I was advised to buy a new remote for $10 plus $11 delivery and if it didn't fix the problem I had to pay delivery to return etc. It was all too hard for a $34 machine. I don't… Read more
have high hopes for this machine not ending up in landfill very quickly with an unnecessary carbon footprint so we've decided to upgrade to a better quality machine we hope will last without annoying issues. It was a mistake on our part to go for cheap and nasty as the time mucking around with it was not worth it.
Not Bad For Such A Cheap Price – We just wanted a basic DVD player to play a DVD. We rarely watch DVD's, so it didn't have to be a top notch player or anything. This player has been extremely basic, but we were able to watch the DVD we wanted to OK. We have since also tried to watch something off a USB stick, but it did not even seem to recognise there was one inserted, let alone… Read more
bring up the files to view. I don't hold high hopes that the player will last long, but for the price, I think it is satisfactory.
