Good TV – Great upgrade from previous Tv. It is a very nice TV with good graphics and good technology. Able to watch YouTube and browse the web. Able to connect to HDMI. Good sound and good picture. Also nice use of the magic remote. Able to navigate easily. Overall I am very satisfied Show details
Excellent TV, at an excellent price, minus 1 star as Kogan has the EXACT same panel for 1/2 the LG c – We've had the TV about a year, and from a reliability standpoint, it has been faultless. Not one single issue or problem. Picture quality is well above average, I wouldn't put it in with an OLED picture, but for the TV class and price range, very hard to beat. About a decade back, Samsung made the absolute best TV panels, however this has… Read more
changed and as Samsung has begun to use cheaper components in its TVs, obviously to add to their bottom line.
The blacks are a deep black, not the typical greyish black. Quite close to a, now defunct Pioneer Elite, which was known for having the best, and truest blacks of any TVs on the market. At times depending on the ambient light and the movie or show, the black isn't as true as it could be. But that's rarely the case. Colours are very true to real life and the colours definitely pop off the screen. Speaking of the screen, it does have a slight matte finish for anti-reflective properties, but could be a bit more anti-glare, in my opinion.
The 3D function, especially with a great Blu-Ray movie such as say "Avatar", is excellent and produces and excellent 3D effect. The glasses are comfortable and can be worn over glasses although their design was not made especially for spectacle wearers. While we don't watch many "fast action" sports or movies the refresh rate is fine for our needs. Can buy the same 50" TV without the LG branding with a Kogan brand for half the price, exact same panel.
A great bedroom sized TV but a tad small for a lounge room, if it's a bit larger than average.
This isn't a long review as overall it's a great TV
Pros:
Deep blacks
Vivid colours
Decent refresh rate (for our needs)
Smart TV OS is great
Magic remote acts like a wireless mouse
Auto brightness for when it's darker or lighter
Local dimming, so no bright/dark spots
6 star energy efficiency
Cons:
The feet of TV are too far apart you will need a larger table to place it on, vs a tv with a pedestal base
At times the OS can be sluggish
Not a lot of apps to download
By far not enough connection points on the back (HDMI, coax, Ethernet
Can only connect wirelessly via wireless a, b, g; no M or AC support
The blacks, while great, still cannot match the Pioneer Elite black levels (although so close)
Purchased the extended warranty which at $79 was a bargain for a full 7 year warranty. A slight FYI, many Kogan branded TVs
use LG Full HD and 4K panels, had I known (although this was bought with a gift card at JB Hi-Fi), I would have bought the Kogan branded, as it's the exact same panel as this LG in 50" and half the price.
