Trouble from when it was only a few months old – Trouble from when it was only a few months old. Recorded treasured memories from video and foolishly didn't finalise as I didn't expect this piece of junk to die so quickly. Considering all the negative feedback, LG should be accountable to us all. Total waste of time and money. Continually spits out good quality discs, wasted heaps of them.Freezes and now will only read CDs.

great unit, its quiet, records clear and crisp even on long play – this DVD recorder has excellent clear record quality even on long play settings, it runs very cool, and quiet, thanks to the internal cooling fan, so putting it in the video cabinet is no problemo. it even plays computer burnt dvds and cds, so that is a bonus. it has great 3d surround sound, and plays back all my digital photos as clear as a bell.… Read more

the remote is simple to programme and navigate, all up a very good and reliable unit and good value for money. very cool, and quiet, excellent clear record quality, easy programmable with simple remote. nothing. so far it works exactly as specified.

Terrible – My experience was very similar to many others, except I did not realise the player was faulty and thought that I was using the wrong disks, not operating machine properly etc. Somewhere down the track when it really spat the dummy and stopped playing prerecorded disks, I took it in for repair. They basically said it was going to cost $279 to fix… Read more

and that was mostly the cost of the part supplied by LG. They said they were very "familiar with the problem, they had had a lot brought in that needed the "Deck Assembly" replaced. I told the repairer that it was out of warranty but the problem had been there since about two months after bringing it home. They suggested that I would have buckly's at getting LG to pay for part and repair, and they were right! I felt totally riped off.

But if so many of us have been taken down by purchasing this brumby machine, and we're probably only the tip of the iceberg, then let's go to the ACCC with this. Anyone interested in signing a petition? - it may be worth it, if only to get the original purchase price back. I paid $800 plus for mine. Please email me:totallybooks@aapt.net.au

Vic Looks good, that's it! Faulty from the beginning

Terrible – DO NOT BUY this machine or anything LG is all I can recommend on my personal experience with LG equipment and the 'service' centre. repaired 6 times, everytime same fault. Laser unit replacement. Burns a disk or two and then will not recognise anymore dvd's even purchased from shop ones. If I had 6 failures then I can not believe ANYONE has… Read more

one of these machines working.

LG is the worst to deal with. They do not want to know. Now have an expensive piece of rubbish.

OK – I've had this unit since 2005 and it hasn't missed a beat. Like most DVD recorders, PC and home based alike, there can sometimes be some incompatibilities with specific brands of blank discs (usually no-name cheapies) but mine has never failed to record or playback anything I throw at it (including junk discs). Although set to Region 4, and… Read more

despite what LG say on their website, you can multi-zone it so it will playback DVDs from anywhere.

It seems well-made, good features, full remote (if a little large) and great user manual. Mine has had no reliability problems in nearly 3 years of use. Records all single layer formats, plays any commercial or recordable DVD (including DL) front mount RCA, s-video and 1394 (iLink, firewire) connections. Doesn't play DiVX (and similar encoded) discs or record DL. Unfortunate problems due to it's generation more than feature omissions.

I definately would not recommend this – I definately would not recommend this DVD player/recorder, nothing but trouble since purchased. Was 'fixed' once within weeks of purchase and still it doesnt play half of the discs put into it, skips and pauses whilst playing the discs that do work. When putting in blank DVDs to record on, the machine spits the discs out. Such a frustrating, worthless piece of junk. Nothing but trouble since purchased.

Terrible – It is the worst Electronic appliance I ever had. I purchased in 2005 the first unit failed 3 times with LG then replaced by another unit but same model. after 3 months also failed always the same fault Optical Disk failure. LG should retrieve this unit to save their reputation. It Looks good and relatively easy to use. Keeps on failing approximately every 3 months

Terrible – I wouldn't buy another one. Overall looks quite good. My machine is under 2 years old and will not finalise discs or read some discs. It will cost about $300 to fix a machine that cost me about $500 just 2 years ago. I have called LG but because the one year warrenty has expired they will not consider fixing it. To me, product quality is questionable.

Terrible – Avoid this product and SERIOUSLY do your homework on LG DVD recorders as LG gave this one to me to replace the LG DR4812W which was WORSE. That destroyed disks and it had the same problems as this model but MUCH worse. This isn't the forum for that model but THAT model was recalled in SOUTH AFRICA. THE DR6921W SHOULD be recalled as it is more… Read more

expensive to fix the inherent problems than buy a new one. Great picture quality. Numerous useful functions with an easy to use remote control. Great quality recording unless you get to the end of the disk then at least you have something to put your beer on. Very slow in recognizing disks IF it does. Skipping, jerking and stalling of single layer disks of any brand that work well on other brands. Slow to start recording and if you fill up a disk see the "good things".

Recently it got very bad and wouldn't read a blank disk.I ended up taking it to their recommended repairer. The problems were the DVD mechanism itself and a faulty MPEG PC board. The cost approx $513. Don't worry I will not pay. I am going to persist with LG and pester them relentlesly unitl I have a machine that does what it ADVERTISES. Whats good about a DVD recorder if it won't play?

Terrible – I bought it 12 months ago, it was a waste of money. I have never used it because I find the vcr much easier (to use) better quality recording. No comlex processes. DVD quality is good in high quality mode. (only lasts an hour!) You can only record for 1 hour in high quality mode, 2 in standard (not great). The only way to get a decent amount of… Read more

video is on low quality (four hours) and the picture looks worse than VHS! The only point to having a DVD recorder is to mostly convert your video collection onto DVD etc. and you can't even do that on this machine, It knows when videos are copy protected and therefor wont record, the picture looks 2 times worse than original anyway! and VERY time consuming.

Good – Simple to operate and the manual is also easy to read.As I was a complete novice until my purchase two weeks ago, I am really pleased to have mastered the whole art of DVD recording so quickly.Ideal first timer recorder with a reasonable price $400.oo SA. I have mastered recording from my camera and VCR in under two weeks.I haven't tried… Read more

copyrighted stuff though.Easy to use remote with loads of features. Not knowing that you need to 'format' to 'Video mode! The manual should make that point very obvious or the DVD's are not compatible with just about EVERY other player.Once I got that worked out everything is fine.4x and 8x have been OK on both -r and -RW.No + discs seem to work on any other machines though.

Good – An excellent, quality DVD recorder with an excellent menu system, which in my research on DVD seemed to be a major area of complaint with other DVD recorders. For the price, a bargain. So easy to use, the VHS recorder will be getting very little use, only when two tapings are necessary. It was cheap, $350, but does no look cheap and has top shelf… Read more

features such as DV (firewire) input and progressive scan.

Very easy to setup and use. Had it unpacked, installed and recording within 30 minutes.

Very easy to automatically setup TV channels, then give then a user friendly name such as 'SBS' or 'PRIME'.

Copied a VHS tape of my daughters horse riding I had videoed. It did an excellent job of setting up chapters. A little manual editing was requied to manually insert chapter start points, then it was easy to either combine or delete chapters as required. Looking forward to updating this DVD with video direct from the camcorder via DV input. Video and RF cables and 2 blank DVD -RW's included. No titles for chapters, but i think this is a DVD standard, so it is a general DVD conmplaint I suppose.

Otherwise, no complaints at all!

Good – Have used regularly for over 6 weeks. Numerous DVD-RW recordings without problems. Have made 58 DVD-R recordings (mostly AV in) on 4x discs for 6 failures. I make mulple copies for family therefore need to be played satisfactorily on any player. I made 7 recordings on TDK 8x –R discs and although played OK on this recorder NONE would play on other… Read more

players (Sony, Samsung, Conia, Pioneer). REVIEW UPDATE. As per review 04/04/05. Added plus is now can be bought for under $400. Ditto 04/04/05. Occasional over bright colours via AV input. Overcome by Off/On reset. Can fail after long continuous recording (over 6 hours). Suspect heating problem common to some other recorders. OK after a “rest”. 8x –R discs still a problem. Records and plays back on this unit, signal breakup on any other player.

Terrible – Heap of expensive rubbish Very good picture and easy to use One review said $300 odd dollares, why did it cost me $574 2 months ago. Not a good one, will not record or play NTSC and when i do record something cant duplicate on computer as is possible with other dvd's. Lots of lg products i have but this one is a BIG disappointment when it wont do what i want..just a waste of money i cant afford

Good – I was worried about how difficult it would be for me to set up and use, as I have never ventured into DVD recording before. However, it was simple. I had to play around with which discs to use and settled on DVD+RW, which give me the flexibility that suits me. It also records well on TDK DVD-R 8x Easy to set up and use. And cheap at $350.
