LG LD560 Series

2010 to present and it still kicks butt! – 8 years old if not more and thing thing still plays everything I want it too, displays HD well and plays the PlayStation no problem. No idea why such the low rating I'm in the market for a new TV now and trying to stick with LG just because of how good this one has been. The stand is sold if you use it but we had it on the wall and it has been… Read more
amazing all that time. Picture modes are good and 100hz refresh for the sport and PlayStation are great. Literally never had a fault apart from the remote stopping which I bought an eBay copy for $10
Disappointing – Hi! I also have the LG LD560. After the first 2 years the hdmi ports stopped working and on exactly it's 5th birthday the video audio port stopped working. I just got a quote that it will cost me $450 to fix. I'm not sure if it's with fixing. Disgruntled customer. A shame because everything I own is LG.
How to fix this TV - READ ON – I had few issues with LG 32LD560. The first one was loss of HDMI picture. I thought it was related to bad cable and left it at that. The second issue that followed some 6 months later, was related to loss of picture and backlight. The TV would sit there flashing the red standby light slowly, no boot at all. So I opened the TV expecting to… Read more
see the bulged / leaked capacitors. However, this was not the case - all capacitors were good, and the voltage rails correct once I turned the TV on - however, the TV would just sit there slowly flashing the red standby light.
So, I started looking at the processor board. I removed all the connectors and all the ribbon cables, re-connected - still the same. Then i read about processor and its solder joints drying up. So, I removed the heatsink (carefully, so that the double sided sticky tape can be re-used!!!), and used my heatgun to heat the processor – around 20 seconds at heatgun at low. Then, I pressed the processor down with a screwdriver handle. I placed the hetasink back without any issues. And this fixed the problem !!!!!! In addition to TV turning ON correctly, the HDMI inputs now work as well !!!!
I suppose some care is needed not to burn the processor, but the solder used has very low melting point, so as long as the heat is not applied for more that 15 – 20 seconds – everything should be okay.
I hope others will benefit from my experience. The LCD panel on this TV is of high quality, and the colours are great. We use it in our bedroom and love it.
The whole fault finding, power supply measurements and heatgun fix took less than an hour.
LG knows about this problem, but are washing their hands clean...
The 4 star rating is due to a good quality picture this TV has - when it's working.
Cheers,
Nick
Won't turn on – My mother bought one of these LG 42LD560 in 2010 and it now appears to be stuffed. Won't turn on, all you get is a red flashing led. When I googled the symptoms and the model number appears that this is a common problem. Next time i'll tell her to buy Panasonic. I still have a Panasonic Cathode Ray Tube TV that I bought new in 2002 and it still works ! I'm going to contact Consumer Affairs to see what they can do.
LG avoiding the issue and disrespecting their customers – I bought my LG in 2010. It has had only occasional use but it lost all USB functionality about 6 months ago. This is a common fault that LG refuse to recognize leaving their buyers with the full cost of replacement. I will never ever buy LG again which is a pity since I always bought LG in the past.
Good while it lasted – I have had the same problem with the LG LD560 it was working well and we didn't over use it. Then a few weeks ago for no apparent reason all the HDMI ports stopped working. I'll give it 2 stars because it worked well for 4 yrs but it's disappointing when my last TV lasted more then 10 years and was still working when we upgraded to this TV.
Sad to see it breakdown – I bought this television about 4 years ago and it was good while it lasted, great picture and good sound then all of a sudden the screen went black and there was no sound either even though the power indicator was still on. I don't imagine it's worth fixing. Hopefully the new models last longer.
Disppointed machine plays up after 4 yrs hdmi stops working – I have problem with my machine at 4 yrs old all the hdmi contentions stopped working. I've contacted lg and they say it's not a manufacturer fault and won't repair the machine very disappointing. After paying so much you expect it to work longer. Surprised it stopped working on its birthday. It's like it was set to die at that age. Never again buy lg
Screen jitter... slowly dying on me – I bought this TV back in 2010 (FIFA World Cup anyone?) and over the past 5 years it has been faultless, until recently. Now when turning on the TV I get complete screen jitter. The amount of screen jitter varies degrees between slightly legible to non-legible. After a few minutes the problem goes away. I only use this TV as my HTPC screen, no… Read more
other function is used (No audio, remote etc). I had initially thought my HTPC was having issues, for a moment I even considered the problem could be my A/V receiver. However I was waiting for whatever was having issues to actually "die" before acting.
Now, a few weeks later since the problem started, I accidentally stumbled upon the screen jitter with the A/V receiver not even connected. Eureka moment. For whatever reason I had not tested the TV without an input device.
So whilst my TV is still currently "working", knowing the problem, I suspect it's only a matter of time before it either completely dies or I throw a Wii remote through it.
I never buy extended warranties, if they cost more than a lobster, so I'm out of luck with this TV which most likely would still be under a 5 year warranty.
Poor form LG. I think I bought this TV for $1200, haggled down from $1400 at the time. I expected it to last much longer than this. Will look to Sony or Samsung for my next purchase.
Failure of the LG TV – First all of the HDMI ports failed on the TV and now the screen. For a TV that is only just over four years old this is shameful particularly when you pay a significant cost to buy a quality TV... However it appears this seems to be a manufactures fault. It appears to be programmed to occur as soon as the warranty runs out. Piss port effort LG
Usually an LG fan, but – Most of our appliances in the house are LG branded and we've never had problems with them until this one. Was a great TV until the failure of all HDMI ports other reviewers are posting. Looks like LG may have had some issues with the manufacture of this TV. May have to start looking at other brands as reliability could be questionable..
Nice tv, BUT – Nice tv, that was simple to use and gave a relatively clear picture, but 6 months out of warranty, it's just stopped working, the red rings of death appeared and it just blinks, looks like another victim of a failed motherboard, the last LG for me, life's garbage.
Wooeful TV – I've got two out of two of them dead. From reading around the web, motherboard faults that are not repairable. Mine don't start anymore, one has a clock on the screen (and cannot go any further) and the other just flashes the red light in the centre under the screen slowly on and off.

Faulty Product. All HDMI ports have failed – All my HDMI ports have failed on this tv, as well as it's digital tuner. The tv is now quite useless and it's not even that old. I will not buy another LG tv because of this. I did a bit of research and it seems like a common fault with this model, and being a year out of warranty I'm out of pocket. I literally saved my bum off to buy a good tv like this so it is quite devastating.
Faulty Product – LG 42LD560 TV We bought two of these TVs 4 yrs ago. My partner who wasn't living with me at the time bought extended warranty unfortunately I didn't. Both TVs are exact same make & model and both have had the same fault at the same time. They stopped reading HDMI. The extended warranty TV has since been repaired & the mother board was replaced and… Read more
whilst having this done the other TV ceased to function. I raised the issue with LG and they are refusing to claim any responsibility as it is conveniently 1 yr passed manufacturer warranty. It appears that someone else has had the same problem on another review on the LG website. I am almost certain there will be more out there and LG should be investigating a product that appears to have a fault in the manufacture causing it to fail in only a few years time. Is anybody else experiencing the same failure in their product or experienced anything similar. These TVs cost over $1000 dollars and should last longer than 4 yrs.

Poor reliability – We bought our LG 42LD560 from The Good Guys in July 2010. It came with three years manufacturer warranty, and a bonus 22" small HD LCD. The flashy warranty printed on a big sticker on the tv was what attracted us to buy it. Now, three years four months later, the screen is gone. No more picture when this review is written. Last week the screen… Read more
started showing few horizontal lines, then lines increased more and more, and now hardly any picture. Audio is still okay though. With such bold warranty claim, one would expect at least it will last more than ten years. In fact when I estimated its usage since purchase, it was around 5500 hours only. And we very rarely put the power on standby mode. Now with Christmas less than ten days away, it is an unexpected and needless expense for another new set we'll have to cope. We'll NEVER EVER buy LG tv again. inexpensive at time of purchase, bonus gift of smaller tv. Last basically only three years, 4 months after the manufacturer's three years warranty run out! Felt ripped of by LG poor quality.
