Bad – not a bad unit simple to use. One thing goes wrong and then everything does.Good unit enjoyed it in its live span. But now NO MORE LG FOR ME.Not even going to bother with repairs cant even get through on phone. 3 year warranty wow. Works well never had a problem till now. none till now. Changed house around, plugged in and black and white picture. new cables, reconnected several ways and still black and white.
Good – Working in ASC LG would have to have the best after sale service compared to all the other brands. They send parts in within 2 days on most occasions. The website, PN and models are very organized. From a technicians view I would defiantly buy an LG. DVD decks are not interchangeable with computers. This unit has an easy to use setup menu. recording makes it easy to record live TV. The buttons are mounted on the top of the unit this can cause the unit to fault and open and close and other faults. LG DVD players do have a slightly high fail rate compared to other brands but this is justified by their cheaper prices. New LG mechanism are more reliable.
Terrible – After 14 months of use, the I/O board failed and had to be replaced. Then 3 months later, the HDD has failed (and lost all my recordings!) and I am now waiting for it to be replaced. I now have NO confidence in this unit - even if the HDD is fixed this time, I have no doubt that another fault will develop in due course. At this point, I just want… Read more
to return the unit to the place where I bought it and get a refund. Despite this unit having a lot of good things going for it, I DO NOT recommend it. There is too much risk of it failing. And if you do get one, make sure you keep your old VCR or whatever as a back up. Here's what I originally liked about this unit (before it went cactus, 17 months after I got it!): able to record heaps of shows from TV and watch them later. The interface is easy to use, recording with the timer is really simple, so is editing out the advertisements. It is SO much better than a VCR. I used this recorder when I house-sat at a place where they had an LG plasma TV and it worked brilliantly with this - the remote control for the HDD/DVD player could also operate the LG TV. The process for renaming shows once recorded is annoying and time-consuming, as you have to cycle through letter-by-letter. The recorder has no memory for frequently-used titles.
Dealing with LG when I needed repairs done is a pain in the neck. They get a courier to come and pick up the unit and send it out to an independent repairer. After 48 hours, the courier company still hasn't called me back to arrange pick up. The first time I had to get repairs done, the repairer lost the remote control and manual.
Terrible – When dvd was inserted in player it would spin real loud, even if not playing or set to hdd. Went in for repairs, returned working well however after 2 weeks stopped reading dvds. been in for repairs again, returned, was told it was corrupted due to using a copied disk. hello?! is a dvd recorder!!!, Still isn't working, needs to go back in. very disappointed Is easy to use very slow to dub from hdd to dvd, real time
Terrible – -After just 14 months the unit is pretty much dead. -Renaming recorded titles is a pain. -Remote is sporadic. -Edited media is burnt in real time; eg if you edit out commercial from a record program and the remaining is 2 hours, it will take 2 hours to burn to DVD and is displayed and the screen, not in the background, so you cant watch… Read more
something else while its burning. Not a good design.
Not worth the money spent. Learn't the hard way, only had 1 year warranty. Not reliable. Great device when it works.
Easy to use.
Hard drive is great. Just like all the others, at about 14 months it started to play up when reading DVDs. Now wont play DVDs, cant burn DVDs, and menus are freeze and the machine locks up. I/O board is failing and is almost unusable.
Bad – Would not buy LG as their products seem to only last 3 years.Worth paying a bit more for something that will last longer.Wasn't too bad when it worked properly and could do with a quick copy to DVD feature in future models if thinking of buying this brand in future. Parent's find it easy to program. DVD player stopped reading DVDs after 3… Read more
years. Was in for service in first year for hard drive freezing.Harddrive replaced, firmware reflashed.Since out of warranty took lid off to see if I could replace DVD drive as it is nearly same size as a standard DVD player out of computer.Tried standard IDE DVD player but on powerup unit displays "please wait" before powering down so is smart enough to detect non standard player connected.Parent's have resorted to using it just as a recorder of shows to harddrive.
Terrible – Absolute waste of money.!! Spends more times in repair shop than in use. Very disappointed with LG and will never purchase another product of theirs again. HDD recording great, beats the old VCR After 12 months laser went on DVD player and wouldn't read any DVDs. After spending 6-7 weeks in local service centre it played fine but after 3 months… Read more
the same thing is happening again so its back to the shop again, no wonder they give you 3 years warranty. It looks like the local electrician will be spending more time with the unit than we will be before it hits the dump! Have email LG with complaint but after reading previous reviews don't like my chances.
Terrible – I have this dvd player 14 months in that time I have had the Deck Assembly replaced twice. (main component)It starts of freezing the dvd's then it wont read some DVD, then it won't recognise any disc. The unit was at the repairers about 4-5 weeks whilst the part come in from o/s. A 2 year old doesn't understand why she can't watch her favourites!… Read more
They couldn't give me a replacement either. I know why they have to give a 3 year warranty - unreliable! Spend the extra $100 and buy a better brand. like the recording features on the HD unreliable when it comes to playing DVD. The quality of the playback off the HD is not the best either
OK – I haven't bought one just yet (still shopping around) but is everyone aware that this recorder comes STANDARD with 3 year warranty? The person who wrote "I am pleased I got a 3 year warranty thrown when I purchased the unit." should never go back to the store where they bought this because you got nothing thrown in. Check out the lge.com.au site… Read more
and see for yourselves. If you did buy one, print out the website just in case they change their minds next year !!! Hope this helps someone? Price and features It's LG
Bad – Good product when it works. Have tried to call LG customer service but to no avail on hold for 30 mins+ twice now. Advice to others don't even bother even calling the 1800 number, email them from the LG Australia website. Still awaiting a reply. Hope it doesn't take 2 months to repair like my Lg 42" plasma. Will never buy anything from LG ever… Read more
again!!! Easy interface, good quality picture. On music cd playback the sound constantly starts and stops for up to a second every minute or so, very annoying. Also remote control sometimes doesn't work and takes 5 or 6 gos for it to do the desired function.
