Brilliant for writing on the run – I was given this keyboard so I could write anywhere. Soon after that I published my first book: I had written on a rock overlooking a rubber, in cafes, on trains, in airports. Great to the touch, resound, durable, lightweight. My top favourite to in my coaching business. I carry it in my handbag and use it with my android phone.
Absolute shocker – Stupidly bought 2 of these November 2014 without first checking the reviews and Logitech forums for faults. From day 1 they have been annoying. I am in no way technologically inept. I know a lot about computers etc. After following instructions both from the manuals and online, BOTH keyboards were still very unreliable and slow to detect when… Read more
using on my laptop and tablets. Despite following instructions on how to reset so they were "out of the box" they were still unreliable. They would work sometimes and more often than not, just not detect. Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling my bluetooth devices on the laptop. Many users have reported the same issues.
I have been a logitech fan for years having bought several mouses, keyboards, speaker systems, remote controls and probably spent in excess of $4000 on their products. Of late, I have had issues with their keyboards and remote controls. Their support has been mostly unsuccessful in fixing these problems and I have grown tired of their ill conceived products and bad execution. Back about 5-10 years they brought out products that just worked, now I've lost faith in the brand. I think I'll stick to Razer, Roccat and Creative. Real shame though, they didn't used to be this bad. It's still well within warranty but I don't think I can be bothered going through an RMA unless they offer me a straight refund.
K810 Keyboard just recommendable – Pros, The fastest for me keyboard I've used. Nice feel to the keys press, and reasonable spacing for it size, not many accidental hits. A feel of quality. Cons, The main annoyance is the backlight detection which is very erratic and unpredictable. The backlight works sometimes and not others and flickers on and off it is almost annoying,… Read more
although I am trying to ignore it so as to enjoy the good side to this keyboard.
An interesting idea of auto hand detection just not properly implemented.
With out the backlight on, the keys are a little dark.
If the light worked consistently, and they stayed on for more than 5 seconds it would have been a lot better. Nice feel to use. Backlight implementation is poor.
Not quite 100% – I needed a new keyboard and this one had every feature except the USB cable only charges the keyboard, you can't use the USB cable to connect to a computer that doesn't have bluetooth, but otherwise I was ready to rate this keyboard 90%. I guess it's still around that but with some considerations that I haven't seen mentioned in other reviews. … Read more · 2
When I got hold of it it actually took me 15 minutes to pair with my Mac Mini OS X 10.6 - adding new bluetooth keyboard always immediately found "Logitech K810" but took a long time "connecting" and "attempting to pair with Logitech K810" before failing. In the end I managed to get offered a code to pair with by using the '+' sign in System Preferences > Bluetooth. Then when I paired it the keyboard type was unrecognised and I had to manually identify it as an American ISO keyboard. I guess I shouldn't ever have to do this again, so hopefully no real drama but not as easy as advertised :-)
The keyboard is nice to use. The dished keys really locate fingers well and the amount of pressure required and feel is great. I type a lot and fast so I guess I should know. The keyboard is slightly wider (possibly 8mm wider) left to right than the Mac Bluetooth keyboard but in all other dimensions is slimmer than the Mac keyboard. All round it's a great keyboard, compact, and good to type. You'll see from the product photos that there is no numeric keypad, home, end, page up, page down. I believe there are ways of generating those keys that I may well eventually get very comfortable using but if you are someone who is complaining about no numeric keypad etc you're looking at the wrong product. This keyboard is compact for those of us who see the need for compact and it does that very well.
The keys are of course very visible in any light conditions which is great when typing at night! :-) Puzzling but on the first day I was not able to observe auto dimming function but next day the keyboard clearly fades to off after about 30 seconds without typing. It then instantly illuminates again when your hand approaches before you can even touch it. I still haven't been able to ascertain how the light levels are automatically determined by ambient light. The manual keys for brightening and dimming enable quick adjustment if you don't like the auto level. The etched keys definitely work - there's no glare from a backlight - its really easy to locate the right keys especially the function and number keys that usually require you to look to locate them.
The Logitech advertising does mention the brushed aluminium but if you're expecting something hewn from a solid block of metal like the Apple products - this isn't. It's typical Logitech feel of mostly plastic with a partial metal top plate. I'm not saying it feels weak or fragile but it doesn't reach the rigid metal axe kind of feel that you get with the Apple keyboard (but the typing is more positive I would say than typing on the Apple keyboard).
What folks don't mention about this keyboard is the order of the control keys: at the bottom left hand side of the keyboard moving from left to right: Ctrl, FN, Windows (Command), Alt, then space. I guess Ctrl - Windows - Alt may be the normal order for Windows keyboards but for Apple use this puts command in the middle, which is counter your familiarity with Mac OS X. Additionally FN key comes after Ctrl, putting an extra key between Ctrl and Windows (Command), which I don't think I've ever seen before. FN is usually on the very outside? Whatever, if you're switching between Mac and Non-Mac you may never get used to this. It's unavoidable of course to compromise one or the other but Logitech has placed keys preferentially for Windows rather than Mac OS X. The keyboard is aimed at cross-compatability so they had to go one way or other, but it may be a consideration if all your devices are Mac. Typing experience is excellent with great size, key spacing, key shape, key feel, key visibility, with multi-device connectivity and USB charging two killer features too No wired (or wireless) non-Bluetooth operation available, even though USB connection provided for charging!
