Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard

Perfect keyboard – If your a gamer then this keyboard is perfect for you. If your not a gamer it is still perfect for you. Had this keyboard for 6 years and still works perfectly fine.

Disappointed – Pretty keyboard with orange illumination and an LCD screen. Have to say it does the job well enough but I only give it two stars as the feet keep breaking. Only good for gaming and may be watching videos in the dark – I bought this just over a year ago and so far it has been interesting. The LCD screen is OK, could be better; and almost useless to a certain degree. I have only used it for some games and also the screen for the clock function.

If you are using a heads-up display such as 3D glasses or something that does not allow you to see the keyboard; then in this case, it would be pointless. affordable, if you can find one... a little bit cheaper than most LED lit gaming keyboards. Highly recommended for the serious gamers out there. Comfortable to use with responsive keys and a useful LCD display. Programmable macro keys allow you to execute commonly used functions at the touch of a button. A bit pricey compared to other keyboards.

steps in brightness or off. The ability to disable the Windows key is very useful. I use the Gamepanel and media keys all the time, for monitoring the PC and playing music. The G-keys are located on the far left hand side, which means you may accidentally press one of them instead of the keys you are normally used to having on the far left (such as caps lock, shift, ctrl etc). A software frustration is that despite trying many suggestions, sometimes the wrong program will load as the default on the LCD gamepanel (ie Performance Monitor instead of the Clock).

Gaming wise, Bad Company 2 stats are actually very useful. It provides game information that you can't see usually until the round ends like next unlock and next level, things that you want to know so you can switch between classes.

Soft back light of the keys is perfect, and makes gaming at night easy.

Only downfall, I like to sleep my computer at night, the media keyboard had a programmed key for sleep, I've setup a macro to sleep it, but unfortunately it's a bit hit and miss (ie works sometimes). It's not really a con, I'm just lazy.

The guy at the shop sold it too me with something with the line "i have the G15 and if it broke today, I would go out and buy another G15 straight away" and I would too.

Recomended and worth the $$$ Perfectly weighted keys which are low profile (don't stick out like fence posts)

The backlighting doesn't completely light up the keys, but this only occurs in keys with 'double-story labels', like "@2", "#3", "$4', and "page up", and it actually doesn't ever feel like a problem. I never notice it, and I'm very happy with the key lights overall.

I’m not as pleased with the macro keys. They sit along the left of the keyboard, where they conflict with years of your muscle-memory training: you'll hit the top-left macro key when you intend to hit ESC, or the bottom-left one when you intend to hit CTRL. This can be helped by actually programming those keys to act as ESC and CTRL. Personally, I don’t find the macro keys that useful anyway, though everyone's different.

I love the media buttons (play, pause, volume, etc.) but I wish there were buttons that launch programs. Many much cheaper keyboards have buttons that launch your web browser, chat, “my documents” folder and so on, so it’s disappointing to not have these on the G15. I tried to use the macro keys for this (eg. By mapping a macro key to [Windows-key + firefox.exe + enter]), but this doesn’t work because it fires off these key presses too fast, and Windows doesn't register them all or gets them out of order.

I’ve heard people complain that the USB ports at the rear of the keyboard are of the slow 1.1 variety. A fair complaint, though they work perfectly with the USB receiver for my cordless Logitech MX 620 mouse.

In many ways, there are plenty of other keyboards that have more features and better designs, but very few of them have the backlighting or LCD screen of the G15. I love both of these features, and they go a long way to redeeming this keyboard in my eyes. -Backlighting means that you can type comfortably in any lighting conditions

-LCD gives you some useful info -LCD uses a fair bit of RAM, though you can lessen this by turning off the LCD features that you don't use in the settings.

-Macro keys are poorly placed.

-The orange colour of the backlighting can feel a bit garish and angry until you get used to it.

-Doesn't have buttons to launch programs or folders

-You'll probably end up using the backlighting even in daytime, because without it the key labels are dim and greyish.

Good – G15 is the perfect keyboard for real gamers. You can download LCD-Programs to let it show on your G15. It also support Xfire by showing Chat on it! The USB ports are very useful for attaching headsets and cameras. Keys that you use all the time (such as ones bound as a push to talk) can have their coating rub off.

For example, in world of warcraft once the game is minimized the G15 will alert you if a battleground is ready or if you just received a private message. So you can surf the net and still keep an eye out of your game status.

The G15 is redesigned by getting rid of the 12 programmed keys and leaving you with 6, but a three memory keys for you to switch from. The backlit light is also more friendly on the eyes, with an orange backlit keys instead of light blue to keep you gaming late into the night without the need for lamps ( so your parents don’t get up to go to bathroom and see your light is still on)
