MPN: M18FID2-05 reviews
Rubbish – Stay away zero customer care broken in no time and customer care is zero to none
Worst tools I ever use – 5 impact broken in a month of regular use, warranty is only repaired, after few days stop working again
Unbridled power – I've had this workhorse for well over a year. It is the most powerful impact driver I have used. I also have a Makita DTD154Z impact driver, so we'll compare the two where necessary. The Milwaukee is a beast. This thing is so powerful and so fast that it feels like overkill for most applications. There have been times when the Makita has been unable to pull up large decking screws from hardwood. These posed no issue for the Milwaukee. Unfortunately, this power sometimes results in the decapitation of screws, especially stainless screws.
The Milwaukee is heavy and doesn't sit well in the hand. The Makita feels much more comfortable to use. This heft adds to the sturdy feel and build quality. I'm sure you could drop it off the roof a few times before regretting it.
The size is also good. It is hard to believe that so much power has been squeezed in to such a small unit. It fits in to most tight spaces that I've required it to. I usually keep a 150mm PH2 bit installed, but the collet will grab the tiniest driver heads for pokey spots.
When being used for extended periods with no breaks (e.g. ramming in 50 deck screws in a row) it starts to get HOT. Really hot. I mean burn your hands hot. This happens with the Makita as well, so probably best to take a few breaks on long runs.
The led works well and stays lit for several seconds after pumping the trigger.
I find myself reaching for the Makita over the Milwaukee for most jobs. It fits better in the hand and feels more "accurate" for lack of a better word. The Milwaukee can be a little clumsy and I feel that it is more prone to camming out or ripping a head off. There is a certain zen to the Makita, whereas the Milwaukee feels like everything is erratic.
I've not experienced any of the collet or trigger issues, so I can heartily recommend this product.
failed first job – Purchased a kit from Total Tools first job with the impact driver resulted in the tool breaking down still worked but motor became erratic and failed under load. Returned to point of purchase within first month and now being repaired 3 weeks later still waiting.
Purchased for $1,199.
MILWAUKEE FUEL 18V IMPACT DRIVER A LET DOWN – Purchased the as a part of a 6 piece kit after reading and watching reviews on its impact driver performance. After light home DIY use, the collet/chuck/bit holder ball bearing failed to hold bits, only had it for 4 months. With only a few hours of use driving decking screws and batten screw. Took it in for warranty repair and returned home to find nothing has changed. Great compact driver however the quick change collet is a let down for a trade quality tool. If you after a impact driver maybe look elsewear or until they change the collet design.
