My real life experiences living with Modwood product for more than 10 years now. Purchased Modwood product and installed it around the pool area. Modwood product claims of long term strength, durability and very minimal maintenance needed. I purchased Jarrah colour, 88 wide solid strips layed on a treated timber frame using the klevaklip… Read more
system to secure decking onto timber frame and it was professionally installed by a qualified and licensed builder carpenter. This product has a 10 year warranty. What I noticed before the warranty period finishing and around the 8 to 9 year period is that the Modwood decking starting to have its colour running out from the decking material when the decking was wet. The colouring or dye used im assuming for the Modwood product was running out of the decking material when the decking was wet. Completely and totally unexeptable! Also the decking was starting to warp and bow inwards and splitting and the lengths of the Modwood decking were shrinking and leaving substantial gaps between the strips of decking meeting up to each joint of decking. About a year ago I contacted Modwood in regards to my situation with their product and also several emails back and forward with Modwood in regards to their product and my situation. Dealing with this individual from Modwood which I found to be a arrogant individual had made me a offer of a good will gesture to help me out but it was definitely no offer of a good will gesture in my opinion. WITH OUT PREJUDICE I offered to do 50/50 split of costs with Modwood to ONLY replace the damaged sections of my decking. Modwood ONLY offer to me was for me to pay total costs for the materials needed to repair my decking at Modwood cost price AND then for me to pay for 2 DELIVERY FEES and ALSO Modwood forcing me to dealing with a third party in this matter to have these materials supplied and delivered by the third party to my home AND ALSO for me to sign a waiver NOT to write any reviews on Modwood products if i accepted the Modwood offer. Modwood was NOT interested to negotiate with me in regards to their one and only offer to help me. I kindly declined their offer!!! From my own personal real true life experiences living with the Modwood product for over 10 years now I would definitely NOT use this product again. I would rather lay tiles instead of using any Modwood product. If anyone would ask me for my opinion or recommendations on using a Modwood product I would suggest to them not to use it and I would also show them my photos of my Modwood decking to back up my reply. I would highly recommend to others to tile instead of using any Modwood products when building new or renovating. At the end of the day it's up to the individual what product they choose to use during construction or renovating. Thank you for reading my review.

I have chosen Modwood (Melbourne/ Australia made) for a variety of applications from driveway gates, pedestrian gates, fencing, decking etc for over 10 years. I find that it withstands all weather elements and have had no problems with any wear and tear or installation. It depends on the framing of course if it is aluminium click deck or timber… Read more · 1
framing. The support and advice from Modwood head office is amazing. One of the Modwood sellers being Chippy's Melbourne is amazing also. There is a great colour range and Modwood looks strong, solid and attractive, not cheap and plastic like most of the Asian imported composites. Plus there is no honest service from many other companies. I found an amazing Builder at Fourshadowsbuilders /Melbourne who installed the Modwood/Clickdeck first time as a long fence and Clinton has done an amazing job installing this. I would promote Modwood any day and encourage anyone who wants to build fences, screening, decks etc to try the product, call the company for any advice and you will never go back to other composite product companies. I am proud we have an amazing high quality Aussie made product! If anyone wants to call me direct for a verbal review feel free on 0413 530 419 Melbourne

We have built a couple of projects with Modwood, as have others in the family. We are really happy with the look and feel of the boards. Show reply

Lego of Flooring – Easy to install & even easier to replace. They do get a little hot in the sun however perfect for flooring.
User friendly and Attractive finish – Product was easy to work with using normal woodworking tools. Product was dimensionally acurate and produced a very attractive completed project.

Disappointed by ModWood's Jarrah Decking – Not the Low-Maintenance Promised – I was initially captivated by the allure of ModWood's Jarrah decking, primarily for its robust, low-maintenance promise tailored to Australian conditions (as per https://www.modwood.com.au/decking/ - Our boards’ durability and resistance to the toughest Australian weather conditions make them a great, low-maintenance alternative to conventional… Read more
timber – and one which can save you significant time and money over time.). The prospect of having a richly coloured deck without perpetual care was highly appealing. However, this appeal quickly faded, much like the colour of the decking itself. Within three months, the vibrant Jarrah hue faded to a soft pink, and by the six-month mark, the deck was fully discoloured. This was a startling shift from the durable and enduring colour I was assured of.
The response was underwhelming when I approached ModWood and their supplier regarding this drastic change. They stated that such colour change was to be anticipated, a surprising revelation not made clear at the point of purchase. Furthermore, they proposed that I undertake staining and sealing the deck, at my own expense, to correct the colour change issue. This suggestion directly contradicted the advertised low-maintenance benefits and what convinced me to choose their product over others.
The experience has been not just disillusioning but also a lesson in misrepresentation. The costs, both in terms of time and money, now expected of me to maintain the deck's appearance are significant. They starkly contrast to the hassle-free, low-maintenance solution I was sold on.
In conclusion, my journey with ModWood's Jarrah decking has left me with a deck requiring more upkeep than advertised and feeling misled by product claims. Therefore, I advise potential buyers to be wary of these unmet promises. Based on my experience, I do not recommend this product. It has failed to deliver on its fundamental assurances, and the additional maintenance required post-purchase has been both unexpected and unwelcome.
I've attached a photo where you can see the amount of colour change that happened in a few months in an area that doesn't get full sun all day, it was colour-matched and invisible at installation time, as well as a sample for comparison, which already appears to have changed colour slightly from our original version.

A very good product with just some minor things to note or be aware of – I have worked with Mod wood on two projects at my house, a Deck and bench seat arrangement and a small service yard screen / fence / side gate. Its great to work with and the end result is great. The things to note or be fully aware of is the weight, its very heavy and this impacted me on my gate, how i did the hinges and the posts. In the end i… Read more · 1
put a small jockey/trolly wheel on my gate (it was 1.5m wide by 1.m high) It tells you how heavy it is on the brochure and i read that and just nodded to myself without actually doing the maths!! But the small jockey/trolly wheel makes it perfect and an easier option for my situation than a super strong post It also fades, which again they tell you and even have pictures of the faded colour which are quite accurate, but the samples of course are all of new product so it easy to sort of forget the fade factor / hard to get the right shade from a sample of new product. Mine still looks great and my wife says the "tone" of the colour stays true but i would have liked the colour to stay a bit richer to make the job 100%! (its still about 90% and way better than having to stain and restain and restain etc etc!)
Modwood In New Zealand – I have just had my builders install a Modwood deck and the biggest economical hurdle for me is there is only one supplier in NZ in ChristChurch. It cost an additional $780 to Ship to the north Island and they could not drop to my building site- freight went missing for 15 days and no one really wanted anything to do with the problem, so it cost me… Read more
another $700 to get a hiab to pick it up and drop it off at my building site. Had I known this, I would have steered well clear of this product. The other think I noticed last night when I came home and the builders had gone... was some of the butt joint gapes were huge (not 2mm as described). The spacers were still in place but they were flopping all around. So I have to work in the dark to kick them all back along the clips and wedge them on the ends to hold it all there because the silicone adhesive had not gone off and the whole thing had moved. I does look better today though. Looks Great! You cannot use "Its only 10%more expensive than the most expensive decking in hardwood in NZ"... if you have to add on another $1500 in shipping.

Modwood sent me some samples to choose, then contacted me to discuss my order for a screening project. I chose the black bean colour, which looks like real wood with a black fleck through it. The battens were a bit heavier than I expected, so make sure your posts can handle the load. My order was quickly dispatched. Show reply
We purchased the Pro range of Modwood and we are so very pleased with its installation and appearance, its simply the best thing we have done to our roof deck ever. Show reply

Modwood is a fantastic product. Easy to install and will last, looks good. Recycled products and based in Victoria. Two of my main considerations in using this product. Show reply

It fades very quickly and very dramatically, so replacing boards is an issue. I recently had a broken board and had replace the decking across the entire area to achieve a colour match. It scratches very easily and seems to absorb oil (from the BBQ) so staining is an issue. The only reason it gets two stars, rather than one, is that it is pretty cheap.

Put Modwood down on my deck 4 years ago. Following the heavy rains in 2022 it began to exhibit a lot of black mould. Last year I spent a week on my hands and knees (I am 67) cleaning the mould off, applying the recommended Aqualis Composite Bright plus Aqualis No Fungal Pro followed by 3 coats of the Aqualis Sealer (costly). It looked good for… Read more
about 5 months and the amount of work required to do this was at least at the level of what I would have needed to do to refresh a timber deck. The whole reason I used Modwood was to avoid this as I aged!! With recent rains the mould is back and I am back to square one. I am seriously considering pulling up the whole deck and replacing it with timber. Very disappointed in this product and would not recommend it.

Regret installing Modwood – I had Modwood installed in a new build 12 years ago. My property on water, west facing and in QLD has an expansive deck. At the time this product was touted as ‘environmentally friendly’ At the time it hadn’t been used much so there was very little information about it. After just a few years the colour changed and it began warping…Currently it’s… Read more
in terrible condition. The mould and scratching (from pets!) is impossible to contain and once it’s ripped up, unlike wood, it can’t be recycled. Don’t even consider putting a bbq on it as the grease is impossible to remove. The colour has changed significantly and there are major cracks and warping throughout. The whole deck probably needed replacing 5 years ago - but I’ve been holding out due to the expense. At a point where it wont see out the year. It’s that bad.

STAY AWAY FROM MODWOOD – I had recently had modwood installed for my decking and I got to say that I made the wrong decision for choosing this product and I'm quite disappointed. Once my decking was completed it looked great, but not for long. In a matter of 2 months the colour had faded dramatically and has become rough. It now looks old and terrible. I didn't expect… Read more
this to happen. I sent an email to the supplier for Modwood along with photos . I had than recieved a reply email from ITI AUSTRALIA who I'm thinking is the distributor for Modwood, which they basically state on the email that it is normal for this product to discolour over afew months after being installed, and that's all I got back. Absolutely rubbish product. My advice is stay away from MODWOOD. There are plenty of other products out there that are far less cheaper and better quality.

BRILLIANT SCREENING PRODUCT – Modwood comes in a variety of colours and the company are happy to post samples of each colour. We have used Modwood as a screening on our high deck . Love the fact that if it fades, will fade to a silver colour . No maintenance and we are on the beach front.
Quick response time – Very impressed with the speed to answer my question regarding brightness value of the Blackbean decking (required to meet code for disability specs). My online enquiry was answered same day! Rare customer service from a large business.
Good quality and natural look – Very happy with my modwood decking. It's not cheap, but its solid (no longitudinal holes through them where inspects nist) and the quality is worth the extra $. Looks very natural for a composite material and the helpline staff was easy to reach and helpful. Would buy it again. Show details
Great Product, Virtually Maintenance free – I contacted Modwood for some samples, and received them the next day by Post!, I have since had a new balcony installed using Modwood, and it looks great, Mod wood is more expensive than timber, but the initial outlay pays for itself because Modwood never needs painting, will never rot, and is Termite proof. and only needs to be washed to keep clean, and it also looks better than real timber.

Perfect choice – ModWood was the perfect choice for our old wooden verandah that had become dangerous due to holes. My husband was able to do work without tradespeople using Klevaklip. The guy at Hayters Narellan was very helpful. We also used ModWood for a gate.
The easiest deck to install – We purchased Modwood XTG to replace a rotting wood deck. It was very easy to install and so far looks great. My husband installed it himself and it looks very professional. It is early days at around 6 weeks post install. The samples I received were small and looked very plasticky so I almost didn’t purchase. But based on the lengths… Read more · 1
however decided to take the plunge. The actual product looked so much better, just like painted wood.
I will be interested to see how it weathers but it can’t be any worse than wood which I had to constantly maintain and it still rotted within 10 years.
Would not recommend!! – We installed ModWood decking about 18 months ago. We spent over $17,000 getting it installed. We live out in the Yarra Valley and have beautiful views. The decking looks good however, when it is windy, we get this howling noise which is constant. After spending over $1000 trying to fix it, we got onto ModWood and apparently they were aware of this… Read more
issue as they did testing in a wind tunnel at Monash Uni and found that it is the grooves on the side of the boards that create the noise. The gentleman we spoke with was very helpful and suggested we put gutter guard (cut and folded in half) down each of the gaps of the boards. Not only is this incredibly time consuming, it does not look good either. They have not offered any compensation for this which is very disappointing being that they knew it was an issue. They have neglected to inform customers on their website either. I would NOT recommend using ModWood decking. We are so disappointed in it. Had we been told this up front, we would have gone for normal timber deck. DO NOT INSTALL A MODWOOD DECK.
Please be aware that ANY grooved decking profile, whether… Read more (+1 reply)
Modwood XTG is one of the best products out there – Ok I got Modwood XTG and it's much better than Modwood Natural Range in terms of scratch marks and all. Nothing is 100% full proof but this product is far better than any other cheap imports. XTG is made in Oz apparently.
Not a problem – Installed 30 square metres of Modwood about 8 or 9 years ago, mould became an issue over the last couple of years due to the rain we've had. to the directions supplied. The Modwood was installed to replace timber deck that was rotted and overall we're veryy happy with it.
Good product but wrong lengths provided – I had positioned my double support joists to match the advertised 5.4m lengths. Upon delivery, I found the lengths were actually 5,420mm. So adjustment of joist spacing was necessary. (Cutting to length was not an easy option).
Impressive – Contacted ModWood for product information. Within a few days samples arrived. It is a very impressive product, and it will certainly use it when the renovation goes ahead. Show reply
Rain stains the wood easily – Our builder used ModWood on our new deck. We had not heard of ModWood and trusted the builder with the product. Since he has installed it, it has rained quite a bit and you can see the stain from the rain on the deck. The colour seems to have faded as well.
