Good and bad – Dragged the unit out after some time sitting idle and ran a map update before a 3800 km trip to Auckland. Told maps were up to date but the unit was caught out at least twice in the North Island, once by the new Transmission Gully road out of Wellington and again by a new expressway tunnel in Auckland. Coming out of Wellington in the dark on a wet… Read more
night with NavMan telling me to do a U turn on a four lane motorway wasn't a high point. Most of the time the unit still works well and we always got to the intended destination even when I didn't always agree with it's chosen route. For longer distance trips it would be nice to be able to chose a route via specific towns rather than the alternate one NavMan picks. The unit can be a little slow in reorientation after an incorrect turn which can cause some frustration in busy traffic . Can't comment on battery life as I always have it plugged in via the lighter outlet. It has always stayed in place for days at a time while travelling and I do find the screen easy to read. The interface does feel a bit dated and clunky. All in all though the unit has more than repaid it's cost over the last couple of years. If the maps were current I'd give a higher rating.
NEVER AGAIN – Second Navman that hasn’t lasted 2 years. This Move85LM just up and stopped working just like the previous Navman 400LM I bought. Screen became unresponsive I won’t buy a Navman product again Show details

Won't buy another one – One thing I really like about the 85LM is the breadcrumb feature. It makes back tracking out of a maze of streets really easy. The fact is though, the device is extremely slow. The map will not update quickly with turns, and it can be ten seconds behind reality. That can be really confusing if you are negotiating several turns quickly. After… Read more
three years I still do not like the user interface much. It won't accept a destination unless it's got an actual POI or street number to tag it. You can't select a coordinate to navigate to, and it doesn't give you any technical information regarding satellites. On top of all that it ran afoul of the date rollover bug, which meant that it thought it was 2014 for the last couple of years until I found the patch. I was not offered a patch or working update on the updater on line.
Next time I'll avoid buying something that is running windows mobile.
when it works it is perfect – navdesk2 not linking to my move85lm unit. it says not connected. downloaded navdesk2 from internet to laptop with windows 10. my Navman has been playing up for a few months and the date and time is always wrong and the window is dark. Show details · 3
I purchased new Navman Move85LM whilst on vacation to due to screen too dark to read – Glad to read patch below for Navman showing wrong date and time. But a little too late for me as I was travelling. Mine too was doing same whilst on holidays showing date 14/01/2014 but more annoying the time was wrong and screen would go nearly black as it thought I was driving in the dark. I lightened the screen to assist until I got to the nearest store and purchased another one. But brand new and did the same thing. Not impressed.

So crippled it is uselless – The Move 85LM is so crippled in features it is total garbage. I purchased the 85LM so that I would not have to use Google Maps for navigation. The first time I wanted to navigate to a camp site give as a GPS coordinate, NO this crippled piece of @#$# does not that function (even though the entire device works on GPS coordinates). I then wanted to… Read more
goto an intersection, NO not for this crippled piece of @#$#. The road is blocked ahead reroute, NO not for this crippled piece of @#$#. And many more basic functions (found in EVERY free mobile GPS app) NOT included. Basically I few this junk away, and went back to Google Maps.
Note, it would have been good, but Navman NEVER states their lower cost GPS are so crippled in function, that are utter garbage.
Cost effective unit – Purchased this unit for a three week trip around the North Island (NZ). Once fitted to the screen of the car it stayed in place for the complete trip despite being exposed to some hot temps. I found it easy to set up and use and the information feedback was good, giving me plenty of warning about which lane to use, roundabout exits etc. The unit… Read more · 1
proved it's worth every day of the trip getting us to numerous destinations from inner Auckland to back county scenic spots without any problem. My only complaint is with the voice directions. I can live with the Aussie accent but it would have been nice to have someone who could pronounce place names . If they can't say Invercargill correctly they're not going to handle Maori names. Most of the time I had to consult the screen rather than try and figure out the vocal destinations. Having said that I'm more than happy with the unit, especially at it's relatively low price. It was all I hoped for and more than paid for it's self.
Navman stand by their products – I have this Navman for 11 mths and the date and time are incorrect, along with with map display showing day maps at night making the gps too bright to use and night maps at day time. Navman have offers to look at the gps which is under warranty, but have also said it may cost $70 to fix this gps, if found the errors are not within warranty..under… Read more · 5
warranty and not within consumer law. Tried their patch and the SD cards wouldnt lock in, apparently they view this as my fault, not their manufacturing errors which have affected a number of their devices. Don’t buy these gps’s as the warranty period means nothing. You have to pay $70 to fix their manufacturing faults.
Good for planned trips not so good for ad hoc searches – For planned trips where you know the exact address you are going to the Navman is an excellent unit. We moved to a country town and needed to take our dog to the vet in another town. I had no idea where to go and I suspect might have gotten a little lost were it not for this unit. Its directions were precise and its display helped in navigating… Read more

Regrettably there is a "but". For unplanned searches where the address is not known, for example its a swimming pool, restaurant or business where the name is known but the address unknown I found my wife's mobile phone armed with Google maps vastly superior. Minutes of frustration with the Navman were solved in seconds with the mobile and its now equipped with voice direction too.
I'm not sure what Navman's future is but if it wants to keep a place in the non commercial space with people like myself I suspect it needs to urgently up its game offering updates to its device and more advanced but simple search antilogarithms for ad hoc searches.

hopeless - won't stick – I do not know how good the navgation is because I have not been able to get it to stick to the dash. The winscreen is too far away to use but there is a very smooth area on the dash of a Getz in the ideal location. However, it only sticks for a short time before falling off. I find heaps of users on the web with the same problem and a few… Read more
suggestions. The only idea that looked promising is to use industrial grade velcro and I was about to order some when I read a review which says it is now made in China and the adhesive is a gooey stuff that falls off overnight. Hence this item is now in the glovebox and probably never be used.

Works fine for me – I purchased this item a few months ago. I travel all around Sydney with my work and it has worked everywhere so far. I've used a number of different ones over the years and this is probably the cheapest I've purchased and still does the job I require, which is getting from A to B. Show details · 1
The time and date will not update – I purchased the Mover85lm just over 1.5 yrs. The time and date would not update. I followed all the instructions, downloaded the patch. The Navman rebooted sucsessfully and Ineven went outside to get a signel and still time and date will not update. Dont bother getting a Navman POS. Show details

After 3 uses, fell apart and is unusable – Decided to try Navman when the salesman said I could enter the address by street first like Googlemaps -wrong, still have to enter suburb first. The charger plug broke and fell apart and shorted my car socket so needed to repair that. Now after only 3 uses the plastic suction cup which sticks on the window doesn't hold the Navman anymore.… Read more
Unusable, complete waste of money, sticking to Tomtom. Tomtom is also better designed as the cable has USB connector into the so can plug into any USB car charger, eg dual car charger, so doesn't hog the car socket.

Good cheap, hopeless if you depend upon it – After many years of using a TomTom, I reluctantly had to buy a new GPS. First impression was ok, screen was bright and clear and volume ok. But then realised that basic functions I rely upon I can't use. Like when I arrive at a destination I cant set that as a favourite (or My Places). I have to set the address before I get there and then save it.… Read more
My old unit I could get to where I needed to be then set that as a favourite. On my old unit I could simply set the screen to display the speedo, cant do that with this unit, but my biggest gripe is the mount is so weak that after a few minutes of driving sees the unit unable to stay up. No matter how hard you twist the knob, it won't stay put. Dont buy!

Caught again – The MOVE 85LM is the third Navman GPS I've bought. Two previous units died... and you'd have to wonder why we'd ever try again. (Fool me once, etc...) Well, we actually like the layout Navman uses... and reasoned, incorrectly, that Navman had probably, _finally_ got it right. No such luck!~ Time and date wouldn't set... the GPS confused 80… Read more
kph limits with 110 kph limits(!) ... and no update service could be acquired. Support (Manila) were friendly, but couldn't resolve most issues; although we did fix the time/date problem (which affects several other Navman models, apparently _shipped_ with that fault.) I felt great empathy for three call centre staff, who attempted to resolve the other problems.
Bottom line? I'm now considering returning this unit to the retailer. We used a TomTom GPS without any problems touring the UK*... and will now consider their products.
* We were able to use a previous Navman successfully, travelling in Canada and the US. We lost North American maps when that GPS died. Battery failure appears to be an ongoing issue with Navman... .

Items like this are usually found in the toilet before you flush – This unit is a letdown. I think I’ve discovered why. Owned by Taiwan. The “made in China” I think applies to the sticker. Flash/patch to get the clock right don’t work. Need a bigger hammer to knock sense into it I guess. August 26th 2019 Update: A toy at best. I wish they’d sort out the speed limits in the mapping. I almost got rear ended today… Read more
because this chunk of crap told me I was in a 60 zone. A twisty windy road, raining I was stupid enough to take it’s word for it being a 60 zone. A car flies around a blind corner and almost ran up my back. Death trap, this model, or the maps.

Street numbers not updated – Unsure of the other models. Bought in June 2019.Just street numbers compare to other brands is very poor. One needs that number on that street. But its not there and gives house numbers awsy from where ine needs to go. If that happens saving a POI us impossible. I rate this model the worst ever. Its Value for a cheapie – Maps are inaccurate..advise to turn when there is none, ignores fixed signs and where I live there are many new streets but there are no updates from 2 years of its release. expect it to die before there are new maps. Pathetic – Initially this was extremely difficult to set up, firstly the web site was unclear on how to download the correct software for the type of device I had purchased. Hardly use it thanks to bracket – The unit itself seems fine.....but the bracket - terrible. Bought it new and within half an hour of having it on the windscreen the plastic suction cup pulled away from the bracket and the unit hit the floor. I managed to put the suction cup back on, but again.....lasted a short trip and it happened again. I returned to the Bing Lee store I… Read more
bought it from and they kindly replaced the bracket. Great.
Once again.....within an hour or so the cup came away from the bracket and it hit the floor again. I fixed it numerous times but I didn't bother going back to the shop....I figured it was a dud design. Only thought today about checking for a generic bracket and found this site.

A great gps – Maps are good. Easy to use. Easy to change settings. Touch screen responsive, especially with tool supplied for touchscreen. Has been used in both City and rural settings of which it has performed extremely well. I would gladly purchase another when that time comes around again. A great GPS at a cheap price.

No pinning of new addresses! Can't migrate addresses from old navman – I was reasonably happy with my previous navman, a MY85XLT model. Unfortunately Navman decided to to allow free map updates on that and charge 60 or 70 dollars for a new map, presumably to force people to upgrade. the Move85Lm seemed much like the old and at the cheap price I was going to get lifetime maps. However, the new machine has not been… Read more
capable of accepting the exported address list from the old one, and I was in middle of being asked to try some other methods my navman support when I realised the new model doesn't let you add new addresses. It had never occurred to me that ANY purpose built GPS device would not allow that, so I shall be returning the new machine next week. Very disappointing.

A cheap throwaway item fingers crossed to get a good one – There were some incorrect speeds in my area (60kph instead of 80kph) but correct after map update. Signal strength is fine except on very overcast rainy days. The layout of the software text overlaps itself and is difficult to read. The software prompts to install older maps than currently installed. Can update the device but need some human… Read more

Garbage – After the tutorial, I started setting it up the touch screen is very in accurate and has a mind of its own. Hard to use due to unresponsive resistive touch screen – Bought in 2017. An Ok product in terms of accuracy and cheap price. However, the touch screen makes it almost unusable. Entering address or searching for places is pain in the ASS because you need to press a key/bottom on screen multiple time to get it response. Entering/searching a place which normally takes me 15 seconds on any modern smart… Read more
phone will take over a minute to get it right on this. I tried both finger nail and touch screen pen provided within the package, they pretty much the same, equally suck. Not just entering address on keyboard, even simple things like going back to main menu will take me multiple clicks (>5, sometimes even 10). If i get to choose between this and Google map on any smart phone, i'll go with google map all day. Unfortunately here in NSW Australia you are not allowed to use smart phone for navigation if you are on provisional license and that's why i got it in the first place. Fortunately i'm on my full license now so it goes to the bin.

Crap pure and simple – Took ages to start, then turned back to start screen 5 times in 30 km, had to stop remove it from the holder and reset each time, this unit is a poor imitation of the original Navman I had 15 years ago, it is going back this morning to Harvey Normans, had strictly followed all instructions but web site is also needing attention, confusing and obscure. We don't buy products to spend hours updating it , and trying to interpret instructions
