Great unit – This is my second 650 that i have purchased, easy to set up, better power connection, easier on off switch location to use if required. Everything working ok, can't fault the unit. Show details ·  1

Ab-so-lute-ly useless – Purchased another NAVMAN (silly me) after using a smaller, cheaper version with moderate success. Has some trouble downloading the Western Europe maps but eventually everything was OK. On return to Australia have had nothing but trouble with the unit, Will NOT download updates (even though this was the main reason for purchase). Screen will… Read more

constantly freeze up trying to open and start unit. Would NOT recommend to anyone to buy ANY NAVMAN products. Both units I have will be put in the rubbish bin as the frustration generated is unbelievable. Save your hard-earned dollars and purchase a GARMIN or TOM TOM which friends have and seem to be more reliable......and they actually work. Either that or just use your mobile phone app which even at the exorbitant prices would be preferable. I cannot remember when, where or how much I paid for this particular unit but it was definitely TOO MUCH. Also, one star is all it has received as there was no lower score to enter..........

Out-dated 'tech' – I purchased a sat nav in 2008, and now another in 2019 (for my wife) and am incredibly disappointed to find them virtually indistinguishable. It works, yes. However it is incredibly tedious to navigate the user interface and much of it is not intuitive. What takes me 2-3 taps to do on a phone, can take 15+ to achieve on this sat nav. I understand… Read more

some of it is due to legal requirements as it can't be a distraction, but most stock in-car sat navs are much better than this (for example, my 2013 toyota has a better in car system).

Very buggy product - Not as good as old Navman products – We purchased one of these for our camping trip a few months ago. It was to replace our 450 which eventually after many years of great service decided it would be no more. It is strange product, it seems to struggle working how long a trip will take. Tells you a 40 minute trip will take 90 minutes and then in the last 15 minutes will align to how… Read more

long the trip should actually take. The 450 was accurate from the start to the end of a trip, we do not trust the 650 at all. Turns off on a warm day, have to pull over and restart it. I do not agree with the statement the batteries are not made for hot days due to lithium battery limitations, the 450 never did this and Navigation aid for the car in Australia should be designed for a window on a hot day. All in all I will not be looking at a Navman product again. We have used this product for a while now and I have edited this review in OCT 2020. I have lowered the build quality as the magnetic mount is rubbish and the bracket which tightens it keeps coming lose allowing the product to fall they should return to the good old brackets, I never had an issue with these even on 4WD paths. There has never been a software update to fix the issues and for general improvements, just new maps. This product has had no aftersales service from the manufacturer, my previous 450 was always getting software updates. I think the manufacturer has lost its way on customer support, maybe to sell it and forget it..... For this reason I have lowered my value for money rating and overall rating, it is a poor product from what I thought was a great supplier.

Disappointed Model: MY650MMT …. now really DISAPPOINTED – We were given this by Navman to our group which happy with the map. However Disappointed that the "font" of road names can't be increased. Tried every option read the manual fully..... Then was told by technical support team none of their MODELS can increase the FONT size.... If they could upgrade the firmware I would give five stars. :-) I hope we can get Navman to increase font size for an update soon? Case number 185009 Show details

works well – My Navman MY650LMMT has been running well since 2015, only drama is if the battery is down when you switch it on it won't lock on until its gets a good bit of charge, I make sure its off when I leave the vehicle then it works all the time...Have made sun shade for it on dash to stop it melting. Show details ·  1

Navman - bad manufacturing – I bought 3-pcs in less than 2-yrs Later on I found out the battery is the problem The battery they use is recommended to use under 40*C. When the equipment is being used during daytime and the sun is ahead, definitely the temp is going to be more that 40*C. As a result the battery pops up and gets damage. They should use batteries which can tolerate close to 80*C

We're reasonably happy – We have recently upgraded our Navman to MY650LMMT. So far so good... I like all the warnings (and the ability to turn different voice commands off and on). It is quite slow to connect but I'm used to that now. I am finding though that the battery doesn't hold its charge a few days later even after being plugged in for 2 hours! Can anyone advise… Read more ·  1

whether I should be using my warranty for this? One other thing I find annoying is that the on/off button can be pressed too easily and turn it on without me realising when its in the glove compartment.

Older one was better – My older one is heaps better. Tried to updates all my POIs onto new one. Now it’s seized. Computer not recognising it either. They won’t help because I no longer have receipt or proof of purchase. Who hangs onto that stuff? I move around a lot, I don’t keep receipts for everything ( although it still has plastic on screen )

Factory Refurbished NavMan Do Not Buy – BEWARE 'Factory Refurbished' Products Navman MY650LMMT Factory Refurbished. recommended in instructions), while the power light changed from orange to green. Navman still broken, not repaired. Would not start up and screen was frozen on talking to computer icons. Battery did not hold charge. Navman has an 'in-built for life' battery, which can not be removed or replaced when it fails, holds no charge. In this case, it appears the unit was not repaired - Just re-packed in a nice new box with new accessories.

Annoying – Once again problems with Navman software. Updated Maps including Speed and Safety Camera software and now spoken Audible alerts don't work. Seems every time I use updates with Navman something goes wrong. Their software never seems to work properly and their customer support is almost none existant. Last Nsvman product that I will buy!

What a disappointment! – The voice recognition feature where I was supposed to be able to give verbal instructions to the unit, is unfortunately a total waste of time & must be an embarrassment to the Company. As the Company cannot even give an approx. date when a new software with improved voice recognition will be available, would appear to indicate that the Company's… Read more

relationship with it's customers is not important.

In addition, the latest maps are not exactly accurate & as the unit will not accept my Mac I've had to send it back to have the "Lifetime Maps" updated. I have been guided off the main road, through & around a housing estate & then back to where I originally left the main road!!!!. Sometimes it cannot find a satellite. Some parts of it's functions are OK........but what is going to happen next, & can I rely on it?

wrost company to buy a gps from – This unit failed me from the start was replaced at Dicksmith 2 times in 1 month because the maps freezes and the gps becomes boiling hot, the last unit replaced has stayed for 10 months now, it has developed the same problem, the problem with navman is they are not reachable by phone, because of the list of complaints they get has scared the technical teams into not answering the phone.

Useful for recycling, not much else – Bought the unit in New Zealand about a year ago, couldn't get a GPS signal inside the shop but worked OK outside. When we came back to Australia, we had to tell it we were in Australia, when we went back to NZ, we had to tell it we were in NZ... Frequently gets the speed limit wrong, but always goes under. Frequently says eg, railway crossing in… Read more

100 metres as you are passing a crossing on a side road. Frequently gets a little bit lost, for example it will warn us about the red light cameras as we are traveling through the Northbridge tunnel on the Graham Farmer freeway. Frequently interrupts itself, starting to say something then says something else. Now it displays "acquiring gps signal", everything else still works but it can't tell me where it is or how to get to where I want to go. If they can't fix it when we next go to NZ, I will throw it in the bin and buy a Garmin or Tom Tom.

The worst example of a GPS we have ever owned! – My wife and I bought one of these for each of our two vehicles. From the very first use we found them extremely inaccurate as far as speed zones. They would tell you that you were speeding when you weren't - or would NOT tell you when you were? But - this was the least of the issues that we were about to experience. Firstly my Navman failed in… Read more

around 12 months. The screen just went grey - and the unit kept trying to restart (and at other times it would not).

OK - so I contacted the Support number - BUT wouldn't you know it; the outfit had been sold - and not all of the machines were moved across or supported. The (quite rude) male told me that it wasn't their issue and I would have to call another number. So - I was quite annoyed and just put the unit aside; promising to get around it (one day).

Next - I had to go to a funeral in SA, and used my wife's Navman to get me into Melbourne, to fly home. All was OK on that leg of my journey. BUT - on the way back in peak hour traffic my wife's unit also failed; with exactly the same symptoms as mine! I just ended up unplugging it - and trying to remember the correct route to Geelong.

But I missed the correct exit - and ended up heading into the city - and onto a Tollway in really HEAVY Melbourne traffic! To escape the city I had to use the Westgate bridge - and copped bumper to bumper traffic, until I got halfway to Geelong. The tollway cost me $17 and that route cost me an extra hour. Later I picked the wrong exit near Geelong too.

We will NEVER buy another Navman product again - they are totally unreliable - and there is no after-sales support for them either.

Average, far from reliable – Biggest problem - forever waiting while the unit is "acquiring gps signal". And it's not like you're in an underground carpark, or in a highrise cbd area, this can be sitting in our driveway in suburbia. And no matter what you try (changing screens, turning it off and on again) it just gets stuck on that screen. Other screens it gets stuck on -… Read more

asking if you want to continue using the device, "yes" or "no". Touch yes or no and nothing happens, you have to turn the device on and off again.

Power - it has no power and won't operate unless it is plugged into the power source. As soon as it is unplugged, it says it has low battery power and needs charging. Even after having it plugged in for a 4.5 hour trip, unplug it and it comes up with the message low battery power.

My advice - buy something else. Why don't I return it? Because of how much of a hard process it would be, just put up with it until it finally won't turn on at all, and buy something else.

Unit wouldn't function out of the box – After opening the package, the unit would not switch on as the instructions indicated, so I charged its battery for more than an hour. When power was applied, a Welcome screen appeared followed by rotating coloured dots and then a totally white screen. It stayed that way throughout the charging period. When it was disconnected from the… Read more

charger, the screen went black. Attempting to turn it on was useless. I tried doing a hard reset but that failed too.

After contacting Navman, they require me to return it Registered Post for tracking purposes. All this will cost me upwards of $20 and a wait time of 5-10 business days to get a replacement unit. This is MOST inconvenient as I was planning on using it for a forthcoming trip and it demonstrates the company's poor manufacturing quality control.

Ok but not perfect – Pros: Live traffic updates, nice looking unit, POI library and traffic guidance by landmarks sets this unit apart. Cons: Poor graphics, terrible pronunciation, failed voice recognition, slow GPS pick up and cumbersome entry menu make me question if buying a cheap smart phone with navigation uploaded would be a better option. Verdict: Adequate but not special for the price. Great for easy one off use.
