My journey with NAVMAN – TOP section is the background story. Please read the BOTTOM section for the resolution.. This is my 3rd Navman. First one was great, made our trip to Queensland a breeze back in 2007. Second one, not bad to use, used it to navigate the wineries of Adelaide and SA for a couple of years before someone decided they needed it more than me and stole… Read more · 1
it out of the car. Thought I'd buy a bigger one to replace it. The MY690LMMT. Nice big screen. Same relatively easy operation / software. Mostly very accurate and finds addresses easily. Battery? Hopeless as everyone else says but it lives in my vehicle and is never handheld so no biggie there. My problems began just around the 12 month mark when the screen became unresponsive and inaccurate to touch. I returned the unit to JB HiFi and it was sent back from Navman shortly afterwards working OK again. Here we are just over 12 months since and same problem. Screen either not responding to input or at times if you want to use one letter when attempting address input you have to deliberately use the key next to it. I have rebooted. I have performed the factory reset as described on the Navman help pages. No deal. I'm certainly not going to open it up or send it to a tech. I like this product (line) but I don't consider 12 months of proper operation before needing to go back to the manufacturer for service an appropriate lifespan.
Thanks to this site and the help of NAVMAN / MITAC customer relations team my problems have been completely resolved. I now have a replacement unit which is functioning (and in use as I type...my wife has it) perfectly. Navman's rep guided me through the process of resetting the unit before requesting I send it back to them. In a very short time they discovered the unit was faulty and generously replaced it even though the warranty was (only just) expired. Top marks to all concerned and a special thank you to Ronel my customer liason contact.
Very disapointing product – Thought I would replace my Garmin and use it in the second car and purchase a new Navman GPS and dashcam from JB Hi-Fi. Well after two and a half years of ownership I've finally had to review this product. Pros Maps look OK and most speed limits were fairly accurate. Had no problems finding addresses. The screen is large and easy to read. Cons… Read more
The BATTERY!! Even from new the battery would hold no more than 5 minute charge. Ridiculous! If the vehicle is left overnight it would not stay charged enough to the start the next morning and require a power cable to operate. This meant that it had to go through a complete boot up and loading of maps everytime I started the car. My 10 year old Garmin still had more battery life than this Navman had when new. The screen is not very bright, even when at full brightness and would washout when exposed to sunlight. You can tell the beancounters had their way on this one. It's not 2005, there are screens that can be read on a sunny day. Occassionally it would just power down for no reason, very inconvenient when I'm in an unfamiliar place and I'm trying to find a particular address. The interface although clunky does work but damn stop asking questions about after I told the GPS to do something. I pressed a button to do something stop asking me about trip logs and am I sure I want to do something.
Of course now my screen calibration is up the creek, coincidentally after my last update so cannot use all the functions. My old Garmin may have been a more expensive model at the time but come on, the difference in quality is vast.
Disappointing – The pro's - the unit is reasonably easy to use. The large screen makes it easy to see and operate. The disappointing aspect of the Navman690LMMT is the battery life is in basically zero. The unit is slow to update and you cannot trust it to provided accurate information about speed zone or red light cameras. I have tested the responsiveness of the unit against known redlight cameras and speed cameras and it is unreliable and inaccurate. Show details
Unusable – I've had this unit for over 18 months and have never been able to successfully use it. It shuts itself off at random intervals, and I cannot ever get more than 15 minutes of use out of it before it shuts itself down. Very disappointed. Would not recommend it to anybody. I have had (and still do have) other Navman models that work fine, but this model is rubbish. Show details

It almost casused me accidents. Very slow sluggish and clunky interface – This GPS is very slow and doesn't respond to quick changes in my meavoures. For example, when I do take an exit off the motorway, it takes like a minute to update for the next move. One time I was forced to stop in the middle of the exit (sometimes that have 2 lanes or roundabouts after an exit) so that the gps would show me the way. It doesn't… Read more
keep pace on roadworks or any road changes over the years and yes I did update the GPS and maps before I went and also the speed limits are very wrong. In some sections when the GPS tells me the limit is 80kmh when infact it is 50kmh. Some are speed camera monitored so be careful not to trust the GPS.
In the end had to turn to my trusty android phone for help. For the trip home, the gps was in the boot never used and I want to thank my sammy phone for it's help.
I wonder what kind of CPU it uses because the interface is very slow to respond and clunky to use. I would not even dare to take it on the next roadtrip.
great is my MY690LMMT – I like my Navman, it's so handy. It tells me when i'm speeding, it warns me of slippery or winding roads. It's easy to find addresses and program it to get to places you don't know previously. it does all i need it too and is easy to operate. It will even find through the food menu the closest KFC. :) The bad-The unplugged battery life is… Read more · 1
pathetic. Every now and then (very rarely) it refuses to start until i pin the reset hole.
i'm happy with it, find it essential on every journey i take and would buy the upgrade if one was offered that is better ion a heartbeat.
Total failure as cannot save more than 4 places and navdesk is useless – Navdesk which came with the unit did not work and was told by navman to replace it with version 2 which has very few of the original functions. When saving places it allowed for four places then failed to save more, Navman told me to reset/clear reboot, same thing occurred. Navman told me to do the same again same thing happened cannot save places ! Show details

A load of rubbish – When connected on Navman just keeps rebooting. As a result can not update maps or look at trip information. Have moved to different USB port but still happens, tried different cables and still the same. System is no use if it cannot be updated Show details

Navman used to be right up there with quality, but not anymore, they have just gone super cheap rubbish – NAVMAN AUST, everybody is saying it !! Your unit is a FAILURE !!! I am now on the 2nd MY690LMMT as the 1st one just shut down about 2 months after l bought it and wouldn't start so it was replaced by the Good Guys. Then had the same issue as everybody else is having only 15 minutes use after the unit is unplugged and the battery is flat, so… Read more
there's no time to plan a trip in the house because the unit just goes flat. Everybody on here Navman has the same issue so why keep denying it.. Its a UNIT issue.... Now l'm trying to download maps for FIJI and guess what..., Navman doesn't support maps to Fiji. When you think of "world maps" you would expect to find Fiji in there. The school l went to Fiji was part of the world. Other GPS manufacturers have maps of Fiji obviously because the school they went to also knew Fiji was infact part of this world and so does Google maps so will have to use my phone whilst driving overseas on roads l've never been on before because NAVMAN have become a cheap company. Such a pitty Navman as your company l once believed was the very best when it came to GPS's

Very poor Battery life – My unit only lasts for about an hour from fully charged to flat when being used in the car. Works well then goes flat. Has to be taken out of the car and recharged. Very poor performance when using on short trips Show details

worst I have had – From when I got this unit the volume was never loud enough , I complained to navman to be told reset it , upgrade the software and maps , this did not work , presume everyone else who has complained has had the same thing. Even while parked with windows up with traffic passing the bluetooth volume was unusable, I have a navman 400 that worked… Read more
great I thought this was an upgrade it was not. After returning the unit to navman they told me everything was fine and the speaker was intact even though it was unusable , you could not hear anything clearly from it driving , it would also alert me to things after I have passed them . I refused for them to return it to me in an unusable condition as the advertised bluetooth was unusable and traffic alerts could not be heard , they kept it a while longer and offered to send me another unit , an upgrade a cruise 650mmt. and out of the box that did not work , it could not load maps, went through startup , time format , date format etc etc then went to loading maps , from there it would cycly back to setup again and again , so the replacement upgrade new in the box had to go back AGAIN . been without a navman for more than 2 months , not happy at all , the cruise 650mmt is my next review. My advice for anyone with a my690lmmt with low volume speat to the ACCC for unmerchantable quality , they advertise bluetooth for a unit in a car it would be expected to work because they advertise it as a feature and it is unusable
Absolute Junk – This is my second unit (replaced under warranty after argument with store). Exactly the same problem!!! Fully charged and as soon as unplugged, turned off and not used, battery flat in less than a day. Absolutely no way I would get another one as it is just not worth the hassle. Especially as the same fault in two units clearly indicates a model… Read more
fault. Might source an aftermarket battery to see if the problem can be fixed, otherwise it will go in the bin and another brand purchased. It's a pity as other Navman units previously owned were very good.

Refuses to turn on at times – This unit is very frustrating. There are times it just point blank refuses to turn on. I can unplug it , use the power button at the back, nothing seems to get it to wake up right away. If you leave it plugged in, it MAY decide to power up after 15 to 20 minutes! So frustrating it's almost beyond words. Trying to navigate out of Sydney (I live in… Read more

Find out how Navman MY690LMMT compares to other GPS Navigation Systems
Know better, choose better.
It cant even find my house - drives right past it – I programmed my Navman to go HOME - it sent me right past my house, told me to turn right into the next street, go half way along the street, do a U-turn then go back into my street and left into my house - blind Freddie could do a better job. It doesn't know where it is and where it is going. This isnt good for a GPS , i would be better to buy a Labrador and a white cane. Show details

Don't buy a Navman MY690LMMT! Absolutely frustrating experience – I bought the Navman MY690LMMT about 2 weeks ago. The problems started when I wasn't able to get a sufficient charge using the Navman usb to the PC. The GPS was plugged in over 2 nights but still no full charge. I had to reset the unit after the first charge as it wouldn't turn on. The contradictory instructions in Navman's manual didn't help. … Read more
This unit has consistently lost charge while always plugged in to the car adapter when in use. Twice it refused to turn on at all, and both times I had to charge it from the PC for some reason. I emailed Navman support several times asking them to tell me the best way to charge it but each time they replied with cut & paste answers from the web that didn't answer my questions at all.
The last 2 weeks have been extremely frustrating and a complete waste of time. I explained the situation to Officeworks and they gave me a full refund. I'm back to using my old Garmin Nuvi with old maps for a while as it never had a problem charging and is at least completely trouble-free.

This is a very good GPS – Very accurate, and simple to install. The signal strength was very good, and in our travels in the Queensland area could not be faulted. There was a very slight problem with it but that was more my fault. Understanding how to change from NZ maps to Australian maps......a bit of lateral thinking was required on the settings solved the problem. Show details · 1
Navman 690lmmt – Very first drive with my new 690lmmt...speed update is so far out it is useless..my old 450lmt was a lot better..I will persist for one week.. no improvements will mean I go back to Harvey Norman. alerts are not precise...But..blackspots and changed road conditions are spot on...Also the onscreen shortcut for fuel and parking is fantastic.So..after the initial disappointment I am working through issues with a very helpful tech support department.
I persisted with my navman 690LMMT.I returned this to Harvey Norman..full refund and purchased Garmin smartdrive 65...Excellent product..I will NEVER purchase Navman again.Speed alerts and volume were hopeless
waste of money. complete rubbish – Unit fails to hold any charge and loses power immediately off charge. previous navman would run at least 15 minutes on battery. this my690lmmt wont hold charge for 15 seconds and is under 12 months old and has been looked after. Show details

Not good enough – This is the second unit in 4 months, first one had to hit reset sometimes 3 times a day, back to Harvey Normans Bundaberg, unit replaced, new unit giving constant messages "connect to power source immediately", even though connected to vehicle battery through power socket, then screen goes blank, plugged into computer at home, internal battery… Read more
charged up overnight, (green light) unplugged from computer, unit off and left on desk, battery almost flat next day screen goes blank??? back to H/N, demanded a refund which was refused even though only 3months old, unit back in vehicle, checked power socket ok, tested all power leads all ok, seems that units internal battery will not charge up and or hold a charge. Cant seem to find email address for Navman au. Not impressed with H/N service just not good enough seeing as unit had 2yrs manufacturers warranty.
catastrophic failure – The unit was on its second trip when it spluttered, shut down and then rebooted itself a couple of times before just failing. I now have a device that only Shea blue screen and no other responses. I originally bought this item because my previous unit provided good service and despite several reviews that questioned Navman’s quality of late. This… Read more
would appear to be a poor decision on my part now. I also purchased ancillary software that is of no use to me now as I doubt that I will replace this with another Navman which appears to be the only option offered by Navman.
In my opinion this failure is due to the poor quality of the item as it used as designed, plugged into power and mounted in the provided windscreen attachment. It had had very little use, only twice over a total distance of approximately 3000 kms when it died.
I could not recommend this to anyone
Not holding charge – Im with everyone else thats had a problem with there MY690LMT have had it for many years the battery after 3-4 hrs plugged in then unplug and not even 3/4 hr out of it which is wrong you buy a product 1/2 by the brand name and the other advice you get. why not have a product that holds charge for at least a hr then you wouldn't get so many… Read more
