Won't shut off - possibly dangerous fire hazard – At the time of purchase there were no reviews on the Product Review website for this NUK steam sterilizer. We decided to take a chance on it though -- thinking the quality would be good since it was manufactured in Germany and NUK seemed to have a good name brand. It worked fine at first. But as stated in the manual you have to clean the heating plate after it has cooled or brown scale will build up. It also requires a vinegar solution to be used at least once every two weeks. Sometimes after you have done a cleaning cycle the bottles can still smell like vinegar on the next run.

Overall, there were no major issues with this aspect. We cleaned it regularly and used the vinegar solution more often than advised, as the residue seems to build up quicker than stated in the manual.

The problem that has arisen is that the machine will no longer automatically shut off. It just keeps running and running. The only way to stop it was to unplug the sterilizer.

The fact that it keeps running may also be a dangerous fire hazard.

We do not want to take a chance if that is the case. So after only 10 months of use we had to stop using the sterilizer -- even though the instructions promise "This 'high quality' unit will last for many years if properly cleaned and cared for..."

Since we had bought the sterilizer several months before the birth of our son, the 12 month warranty period had barely elapsed.

We brought it back to Baby Bunting. They kicked the can to NUK to see if they would repair or replace it. NUK would not give us a straight answer for several months.

After constantly following up on the issue they finally stated that since it was just outside the warranty period they were not going to do anything.

We found this to be very poor customer service and a very poor, possibly unsafe product.

does the job – This steriliser is easy to use. Takes approx 10 minutes. Fits all size bottles. I could sterilise bottles, breast pump parts, soothers/dummies etc & they all fit easily. If the unit is not wiped out regularly a brown film appears in the base of it which is easily cleaned as per instruction manual. The racks inside are plastic & a little flimsy... I use glass bottles & the weight of them have bent the plastic holder & for the price of the unit I think this could be better quality. Overall it does the job & is entirely steam based so completely chemical free. easy to use, large enough for plenty of bottles & parts expensive
