My first kayak – I have taken this kayak out a total of 3 times. I a into exploring. This kayak is great at cutting through the fast waters of the Cedar river. I paddle up stream fairly fast in very fast current. It took a little getting use to. I am a avid canoe person. But I am very pleased with the way it handles rivers and creeks. All seem to have fast waters.… Read more

I plan on fishing out of it also. This will come later this summer.

*A YEAR LATER*. I've been in the kayak over 75 times now. So I can tell you that I just love it. I take it out more than me canoes. Even the dog loves riding on the front. Easy slicing the water. Fishing is not too bad. I added a fish locator and a sliding anchor pulley system. For me, the anchor system was a must. A 1.5 pound anchor is enough to hold it in place. And a note - I've not dumped it since the first time I stepped into it. It goes where you point it A little tippy, but that's just me. The first time I stepped into it, I was in the water!! And the LAST.

2014/2015 Model Quality Downgrade – Old Town have down grade the quality of the seat and fittings in the 2014/2015 models. The seat model has changed to a less comfortable style and is now similar to that used in their Vapor boats. I have an older Dirigo that is significantly more comfortable to paddle. With this poor quality seat I would not longer recommend paying the premium price that is charged. The photograph shown on this page is for the old style seat.

Stable, in choppy seas – Old Town is easier to get in and out of, compared to my Point 65oN. It tracks well, without a rudder, even in our choppy seas, manages swells and waves, and the roomy cockpit lets you shift around, whereas I nearly tip mine over if I do that. I am going to get an Old Town Dorigo next. Stable, roomy Price $1149 without paddle or any other equipment.
