OPTREX Actimist now contains preservatives – I discovered this only months ago due to developing dry eyes. It use to help relieve my symptoms. It now has added preservatives. It feels like spraying my eyes with acid. In the bin it went. Show details
Surplus left in bottle – Excellent product that really helps me however there is always surplus left that you can’t get out. This equates to roughly a £1’s worth of waste every time. This is due to how the tube is positioned and no matter how you hold the bottle you cannot get it out. I end up throwing it aside in frustration! Please fix this
Gave me an unsightly skin rash around my eyes – I do not have sensitive skin and have never had a skin reaction to any product I have used - except this spray. I developed an unsightly and uncomfortable rash around my eyes that made me look like a raccoon. I spent many $$$ on Drs and creams to try and heal the rash but all Optrex gave me was a gift card to the value of the product and fobbed… Read more
me off! Very poor product and customer service! I guarantee the rash was the result of the product and warn people about the issue. Take care!
Actimist 2 in 1 is very helpful for our dry eyes – My husband & I both use this product & find it very helpful. It provides eye comfort for about 4 hours. It is especially good for dry dehumidified environments like planes & air conditioned areas. I use a closed fist on my cheek to stabilise the bottle when administering it (about 10cm) & I wait about 20 seconds for it to "dry" before opening my eyes. It is a wonderful help to us both. We've been using it about 2 yrs now. Show details
Don't waste your money – Purchased this product from our local supermarket, I tried it for two days and found it to be totally useless. Due to my eyesight deteriorating over the last two months I decided to have an eye test and get new spectacles. Unfortunately they did not totally solve my problem as I found it was being caused by dry eye, very noticeable in the… Read more
mornings and gradually improving through the day. I purchased a product called Hylo Fresh which worked brilliantly, due to the bottle applicator it was not easy to use so I got my wife to administer the drops. I thought by buying the Optrex product, which looked easy to apply, it would spare her the task, this is when I discovered my mistake. There is no way this product will give any ease from the ingredients, only a stinging sensation from what I imagine is the Ethanol. I think that a product that has such a high price should have worked to some degree, so be warned.
Burning sensation – I had been suffering from dry eyes and decided to give ac timist a go. Sprayed on my eyelids as directed, (not into my eyes) and it really stung and felt like my lids were on fire. It took a few minutes to calm down, and didn't help the dryness at all. A few days later I tried again and still had the same reaction. My eyelids were sore and itchy… Read more
for a couple of weeks after using the ac timist spray.
I gave the actimist to my son to try and he had exactly the same reaction.
I have since used some different eye drops without any issues at all.
I will never use actimist again or recommend it to anyone.
Too Good To Be True – Optrex did not relieve my dry eyes. The ethanol burnt the top lids. Sore red dry for many days after using the product. I do not recommend the product. Waste of my money.
Pain – The pain from my eyes stinging is terrible . Only used once never again for the price I didn’t expect it to sting like that . Made my eyes worse
Great and Terrible – I get dry eyes using contacts and this works amazingly for my eyes. The downside is the few seconds of burning pain from the Ethanol... after that it's pretty awesome
Optrex is a con – Optrex does not relieve dry or irritated eyes. I found it did the exact opposite. The eyelids and skin immediately surrounding my eyes became sore and eyes seemed more irritated. They improved after I stopped using it.
Don't believe the hype – Initially disappointed, but have had minor relief from regular use. Would go for a normal eye drop over this and could have got two of those for this. To the people spraying in your eye, it's not meant to be used that way! The liquid attaches to your eye folds and is dispersed into the slowly as you blink. Tempting to spray directly, but not how this one works.
Does NOT cool, soothe, refresh, relieve or revive – Tried this for dry eyes. It is supposed to cool, soothe and refresh....or relieve or revive It does none of these. In fact it makes it worse. Eyes are more irritated after use. I even doubt the so called science behind it. My optometrist did Not recommend it either. Very disappointing.
Good delivery system – Dispite the higher than average price, I have found this to be very convenient with its spray delivery system. It is quicker and easier and less messy to use than the eye drops where I had to hold my eye lid open. I am only using what I needed and not wasting the remainder of a disposable eye drop every time. And the sealed bottle means it has a… Read more
longer expiry time.
I had used the Itchy+Watery version for my dry eyes as I couldn't find the Dry+Irritated one and it worked fine. But I do wish they have a version for all conditions. And I don't mind the slight soy smell so I know I'm not just paying for water.
In relations to the burning sensation a few people have reported, I have found that only happened to me when I had sprayed too close or too much and some of it had landed directly on the eye ball. But haven't had any issue when sprayed on the closed eye lid as directed.

eyes burn and sting – my mum bought this for me accidentally instead of eye drops and I used it once and my eyes are stinging and burning so please fix this before it effects other people.
Waste of money – My eyes can get dry and irritated in winter as the humidity decreases. I thought I'd try the spray as it seemed like a good idea despite the high(ish) price. Well, I've used it a few times and while it's not irritated my eyes as it seems to do for some, it simply does nothing. No relief, no lubrication. I've resorted back to drops which work.… Read more
Quite disappointed. One good thing about it is that if you have friends or family who do find it effective, you can share the bottle as there is no contact with the skin and therefore no infection risk as there is with eye drop bottles.
I later spoke with a friend who finds it quite effective, so I gave her my nearly full bottle. Apparently, it works for some and not others.
Burning eyes – I've been using eye drops for years. An optometrist from long ago recommended this, saying it's necessary for long computer use and to relieve eye strain. Optrex is my brand of choice because I found it really refreshing and helpful. I almost don't mind that I have to buy another pack after four weeks. I've seen the results; good quality and peace… Read more
of mind is priceless.
The Acti mist version has been out a while, but I stuck with the usual. Call me old fashioned or sentimental, but I didn't want to mess up a good thing. However, curiosity got the better of this cat, so I decided it's worth a try. At first, I was impressed. An eye spray that does the job? It was super convenient, no need to tilt your head; just close your eyes and poof. It seemed too good to be true. I was so convinced that I bought two more bottles from the chemist while on sale.
Suddenly, I noticed that my eyes burned often as I took a shower. I thought something else caused this, but woke up once I read the reviews of the eye spray here. I found out by then that ethanol was one of the ingredients. I concurred that it was indeed too good for me and returned both bottles to the chemist. When they accepted it without questions, I knew I've dodged a bullet. I promptly returned to using the eye drops. True, it has a shorter expiry and you have to tilt your head, but at least there's no Ethanol (and no burning eyes). So readers, if you don't want that bullet to ricochet, pls avoid Optrex eye mist. Take it from someone who's been there.
Not very good – They claim it helps relieve dry eyes which just isn't the case. Before you think this might just be isolated to me know that friends and family that have used this have reported similar effects. First thing spraying it on you will become aware of it being on your eyes as your eyes throb slightly. Over time especially in windy conditions your eyes… Read more

counter Drops, Spray and Ointment recommended to me by my trustworty Pharmacist, GP and Professor of Hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease . .
l found that these treatments and eye exercises have worked to help me relieve the pain and inflammation associated with the above eye conditions.
This is not a cure for Dry Eye, Exophthalmos or Proptosis.
This is about using the recommended treatments already supplied by health professionals with a complete alternative method including eye strengthening exercises that actually reduce the blurred double vision, weeping eyes, pain and inflammation of your eyes while you are waiting to get an appointment with a good Opthalmologist.
These eye exercises do hurt a bit to start with; but try to complete them and as soon as you have finished one excercise put more Optive Eye Drops straight from the fridge into your eyes and wait one minute before you do the next exercise, this allows your eyes to rest and the pain to ease.
I found that these eye exercises really help because it seems to not only stretch my Optic Nerve but because l am exercising the Optic Nerve the inflammation seems to reduce a lot more quickly which eases the blurred and double vision, watering eyes, pain and headaches associated with the inflammation with these eye conditions.
l have also found that my eye is not nearly as lazy as it was before l started these exercises.
Eye Exercises:
These eye exercises themselves take just 90 seconds to complete, 30 seconds for each exercise, therefore, you can do them as often as you need to throughout the day or night to get relief, but it takes me about 15 to 20 minutes to complete the entire process, so if you don't have time to complete the entire process in the morning then make sure you do the drops, exercises and spray in the morning and you can complete the entire process before going to bed each night.
You will need the following items
From The Chemist:
These products can all be bought over the counter at the chemist.
(1) 1 Eye Mask filled with Coloured Water.
Note: This mask needs to be put in the freezer until frozen; but if you can't wait that long because you are in too much pain then just leave it in the freezer for an hour or so to get cold. The same goes for if you don't have time for it to defrost, warm it up in a bowl of hot water until you have half water-half ice; leaving a small section of ice through the middle of the mask to ensure it is cold enough to reduce the inflammation.
l do not recommend using a microwave as it may burst your eye mask as it heats up or it could make the water way too hot for sensitive areas like eyes.
(2) 1 Bottle of Optive Lubricant Eye Drops (Moisturising Dry Eye Solution)
(3) 1 Bottle of Optrex ActiMist 2 in1
Eye Spray For Dry Irritated Eyes
(4) 1 Tube of Duratears Lubricating Eye Ointment for Dry Eye
Note: My Optometrist said
("Do Not Use Gel, Use Ointment")
Note: All eye drops and ointments should be kept in and used straight from the fridge, the coldness is very soothing and helps to reduce the inflammation and pain, while maintaining the life of the product.
(5) 1 Roll of 10mm thick Skin Tone
Hypo-Allergenic Paper Tape
(6) 1 Small Pair of Scissors
This is what you will need
from the Supermarket:
(7) 1 Box of Soft Kleenex Tissues.
Note: Soft Tissues are gentler on the skin around the eyes, so be careful not to rub your eyes as this can lead to wearing the skin off your eye lids; much like when you blow and rub your nose too many times.
You Will Also Need:
(8) 1 Roll of Viva Paper Hand Towel, l use this brand because it still works well even when it's wet.
Note: You will need 1 sheet of Hand Towel folded in half to go over your eye mask each time you use it.
NB: Make sure you wash your eye mask under fresh clean water after each use before it is returned to the fridge or freezer.
Okay, Now Gather Your;
1. Optive Eye Drops
2. Coloured Water Eye Mask
3. Optrex ActiMist Spray and
4. Duratears Lubricating Eye Ointment containing Parafin Oil
(For Night Time Use Only)
5. Tissues
6. 1 sheet of Paper Towel
7. Skin Tone Hypo-Allegenic Paper Tape and
8. Scissors
NOTE: Before You Begin;
Find a relaxing place where you can lay down comfortably.
Now Let's Get Started:
Tilt your head back and immediately apply 2 drops of Optive Drops into each eye, keep your head back so the drops flood the eye socket. l like to treat both eyes just in case and it wont hurt to do this.
Blink 10 times to absorb as much Optive Eye Drops into the eye as possible, bring your head back to the straight up and down position.
With a clean tissue dab away the excess drops around your eyes and running down your face, discard used tissue.
Exercise 1:
Open your eyes as wide as you can, this could hurt a bit because it's putting pressure on the already inflamed tissue in and around the eye socket and it is stretching the optic nerve; but it is these exercises that will make your eye feel the best it has in days.
Hold your finger as close to your nose as possible say 20mm off the tip of your nose until your finger is in focus.
With big wide eyes follow the length of your finger from the tip to knuckle, keep your head still and only move your eyes down the finger once then alternate and come back up the length of the finger once, that is one exercise. Look down and then up the length of your finger for 30 repetitions (30 up and down movements in total)
Make sure your eyes are wide open. This can be hard to achieve at first and does hurt a bit so if you can't do the full 30 up and down exercises all at once then do as many as you physically can handle and then push yourself to do 3 more, this will eventually build you up to 30 combined up and down lengths of your finger in a short couple of days.
Complete The Resting Process: Immediately place another drop of cold Optive Eye Drops in each eye flooding the eye socket once more, blink 10 times.
Gently dab the access drops away from your eyes and those running down your face and rest your eyes by closing them for 1 minute before starting the next exercise....
Exercise 2:
Place your finger vertically just off the end of your nose about 20mm and focus with both eyes on your finger. In a semi circle movement move your finger from your nose slowly around to the corner of your right eye, return your finger to your nose and then move your finger from your nose in a semi circle movemrnt around to your left eye. This is exercise 2.
You now need to complete another 29 of these.
Remember to always keep your eyes open wide as far as you can during this process.
When you blink just return your eyes to wide open again even in you can't stop blinking. This may take a little practice but your persistence will pay off.
Exercise 3:
Place your finger verticle to your nose; with the tip of your finger about 20mm out from your eyes but level with your eyebrows.
Now move your finger around the outside circumference of your face. So using a circle movement; move your finger to the right and down past the end of the eyebrow, past the corner of your right eye, keep moving finger down past the side of your cheek and past the corner of your mouth to the centre of your chin, now go up the left side of your face at the same width of your circle.
Bring your finger up past the corner of your mouth, up past your left cheek, up past the corner of your left eye, then end of your eyebrow and back to the centre of your eyebrows.
l can't stress this enough,
*(Make sure you keep your eyes stretched wide open during this exercise) and don't take your eyes off your finger, if you can't see your finger with both eyes all the time when you have your head straight and facing forward then simply bring your finger in a bit closer at the sides of your face.
Now move your finger in the anti clockwise direction; back the other way. Alternate the direction from right to left for a total of 15 times in each direction until you have completed 30 circles around your face.
Again, make sure you keep your eyes stretched wide open and blink when neccesary. Well done, now
Complete The Resting Process: Immediately place another drop of cold Optive Eye Drops in each eye flooding the eye socket once more, blink 10 times.
Gently dab the access drops away from your eyes and those running down your face and rest your eyes by closing them for 1 minute before starting your next step.
Before starting 'The Next Step' Focus your eyes into the distance as far away as you can; focus on the leaves of a tree or the door knob on the door of the building over the road.
The exercises are now complete and should be performed each morning and night.
Next Step:
Now with your half frozen mask place your one piece of Paper Towel that you folded in half down over each side of your mask so it's hanging over the top rib of the mask like a sheet over the clothes line.
Hold the bottom of the paper towel tightly over your mask with your left hand and with your scissors either cut holes in the Paper Towel where the eye holes are in the mask;
be very careful not to cut the mask, if you don't think you can manage this without cutting the mask then just poke a hole through both sides of the paper towel with your finger tip where the eye holes in the mask are.
Place the mask strap over your head, ensure that one side of the paper towel is between your eyes and your mask and the other side of the paper towel is on the outside of the mask catching the drips of water as it defrosts.
Adjust the mask so you can see through the eye holes and then tighten at the back of your head to fit securely around your head; make sure it's not too tight over your eyes.
Now just lay back and relax for 10 to 15 minutes or as long as you can. I try to wait until all the ice is melted because the longer you can keep the ice pack on your eyes the better; as it reduces the inflammation in and around your optic nerve.
The paper towel eases the coldness of the mask around your eyes and you may need to lift up different sections of the mask to stop that too cold feeling in different spots.
Now doesn't that feel great?
When you are finished with the ice pack discard the paper towel and wipe your face with a tissue to remove any water from where the mask was sitting.
Next Step:
Take your Optrex ActiMist Spray Bottle and hold the bottle in an upright position no further away from your eyes than the end of your nose (About 20 to 30mm), close your eyes and spray firmly but gently on to your closed eye lids, this should be one plunged spray, then repeat this process on your other eye. Here's the trick to stop it stinging, keep your eyes closed until the spray dries, maybe 15 seconds up to 1 minute and wipe any overspray off the bridge of your nose, above your eyebrows and along your cheek bones under your eyes; making sure not to wipe too close to your eyes other wise you could wipe off the Optrex ActiMist and then you'll have to reapply it.
I know a few people say they don't like Optrex ActiMist because they claim it stings their eyes, but perhaps some of these people are opening their eyes too quickly and not allowing it to dry, however, if you really can't use Optrex ActiMist Spray then these people can either skip this step and go onto the Final Step or ask your pharmacist for an alternative spray.
For me Optrex ActiMist dries up my watering eyes and makes my eyes feel fresh and it tightens the skin around my eyes, so it works for me.
Final Step:
At Night Time, Right Before You Go To Bed, Take your Scissors and your 10mm Skin Tone Hypo-Allergenic Paper Tape and cut a length about 30mm long, make it long enough to go over your eyebrow, down over your closed eye lid and finishing about 10mm below your closed eye lid on your cheek.
Now take your Duratears Lubricating Eye Ointment
and remove the lid.
Follow the instructions on the back of the packet as recommended by the manufacturer to apply it, after you have squeezed a line of Duratears into your sore eye; close your eye and keep it closed, now attach the Skin Tone Hypo-Allergenic Paper Tape from your eyebrow down over your closed eye lid gently pushing your top and bottom lids together and attach the tail of the tape onto your cheek.
You will need to sleep with the tape over your eye like this every night to stop your eye from opening while you sleep.
When your eye lid opens during sleep you can't blink to keep the eyeball moist, this allows your eyeball to dry out and causes the watery eyes that drip like a tap, the feeling of a scratched eyeball, blurred and double vision, inflammation, pain and headaches. If we can stop the eyelid from opening, the eyeball wont dry out as much and therefore, you should wake up without your eye dripping like a tap.
Take the tape off in the morning pulling it sideways gently so as not to pull out your eyebrows and then wash and dry your face as normal.
It may also help to sleep on an extra pillow to help reduce the inflammation further.
WARNING:
Dry Eye, Exophthalmos and Proptosis are dangerous eye diseases and is not to be take lightly, they can make you blind, so make sure you make an appointment with a good Opthalmologist because a bad one can cause you to lose the sight in your eye too.
A good Opthalmologist should perform an MRI on your eyes to ensure your Optic Nerve hasn't been compromised and is in tact, and if it hasn't been compromised then the doctor should provide you with a prescribtion for steroids or a similar treatment, however, in severe cases you may need eye surgery to remove the inflammation so your eye ball can settle back into its socket and allow your eye lid to close again normally.
So make the appointment now to go to your GP and get a referal to a good Opthalmoogist.
Good Luck and l hope this treatment and exercise program is of assistance to you and you get good results like l am getting.

doesn't work – Bought for severe acute allergic reaction of unknown origin. Tried it as prescribed. No relief. Found washing eyes with water better and much cheaper. Can't recommend try water instead. As I write this eyes still burning 10 minutes since using spray.
This worked for me – I think everyone is different when it comes to health and personal care products and the reviews seem to be mostly negative for this product but I found it works well for me. I sit in front of a computer in air conditioning most days and I wear glasses. It takes about 5 minutes to work but once it does my eyes feel great. Before I spray they… Read more
usually feel dry and grainy. The only negative i find with this product is that it gets all over your face and if you don't wipe it off you are left with a sticky face.
Don't buy waste money – I brought this product thinking it will help my irritated eyes- in fact I feel like poking them out now they so irritated so itchy so sore I rubbing them I am 100 percent sure they made my eyes worse and I can not believe they are on the market. Waste money and my eyes are killing me now worst ever been due to optrex actimist so trust these reviews wish I had read but I thought a simple spray over eye with eyes closed is safe no think again.
Waste of Money and Ineffective – I wish I had seen these reviews before trying this product. It had no effect whatsoever and in fact felt like it added to my irritation. I had to wash my eyes with water to make them more comfortable. I went back to my old style eye drops which gave me almost instant relief. I just don't understand what is going on with this product's hype. I recommend you avoid disappointment and stick with the tried and tested eye drops.

Expensive novelty, probably not worth the money – I am not convinced that this product did anything much. I followed the instructions exactly, did not experience any ill effects or stinging and my eyes felt OK afterwards. I did not experience any improvement on ordinary eye drops apart from the novelty of spraying on closed eyes. If you hate using eye drops this would probably work for you but I… Read more
don't think that is enough of an advantage for me to justify the much higher cost. Note also that the bottle contains only 10 ml and the spray tube does not reach to the bottom, as others have noted. Most eye drops come in 15 ml bottles.
Waste of money – Stings and makes eyes dry due to ethanol alcohol. Avoid just makes your eyes feel worse. Cant believe i wasted so much on this junk. Threw mine straight into the bin!
Not happy – Happy to pay top dollar but not happy when I can't use the whole bottle as the tube doesn't reach the bottom of the bottle. Can't say it helped my dry eyes either so will trial something else next.
makes my eyes sting – I have dry eyes. Actimist stings like hell every time I have used it. Surely that can't be right. I was really disappointed and don't know what to try next
Gimmick - Not what it states or what I expected! – I bought Optrex ActiMist 2 in 1 product for the easy application and that it is SUPPOSED to be good for dry eye. Well to my discomfort and shock, it makes my eyes feel gritty, itchy and sticky like conjunctivitis and not at all lubricated? My eyes actually feel worse after the application, even gone bloodshot. It states in bold "DO NOT SPRAY… Read more
PRODUCT ONTO OPEN EYE", well that alarmed me to start with as it is for the eyes isn't it? When you spray onto the lid it runs down to your lashes into the eye?? I don't have allergies just dry eyes, but this product certainly does not live up to what it states. I have wasted my hard earned money. I think I should take it back and contact the company, as surely it should not have this effect? I will stick with the regular eye drops as this is just a useless gimmick.
Instant relief – I too disagree with previous reviews. I suffer from watery eyes and get instant relief after spraying with Actimist. Judging the 10cm distance isn't too difficult - doesn't have to be precise. The only problem I have is the spray also goes on the area around my eyes and I need to wipe with a tissue but it's worth it for the relief.
Feeling so much better thanks to this little miracle – What these people are saying is wrong this is the most beneficial thing I have ever bought. It is especially good after I sit a test in class In the dark room with the computer stuck on full brightness. ❤️
Waste of money – Needed eye drops due to A/C and dust at work, so the missus bought this stuff. Wish we read the reviews first. Thought I'd try it in case I was special and it would work on me. It turns out I'm not special and the spray is utterly useless. My eyes actually felt better before I used it! Eyes feel all gunky and can't focus all that well either now.… Read more
Skin around my eyes feels tight and my eyebrows are stinging a bit. I don't have any allergies that I'm aware of. Basically, what everyone else has said is right. Stick with normal eye drops. Not this stuff that you are wasting most of, anyway, by spraying in the air and on your face, with only a tiny portion actually getting into your eyes. Where's the logic in that?
And, to update this after posting it, my eyes are now dryer and stinging more than before I used it. And still hard to focus, 30mins later!
If you want to spray Ethanol in your eyes, this product is for you – I found that there was no relief at all. I was hoping this product would work as advertised but I was very disappointed. Don't waste your money.
Don't waste your money – Don't waste your money. Super expensive and ineffective. No relief from symptoms. Disappointed as I was hoping it would replace eye drops for good.
does not live up to advertising hype – I bought this as it seemed a good idea. We regularly use eye drops for dry eyes in our household. use. It says to hold 10 cm from closed eyes and spray - difficult to judge the distance with eyes closed. It does not feel nice on your eye lids after spraying - mine feel tight and uncomfortable. I would not like to use it with mascara or eye make up, it says you can but you must be 20 cm away and spray only once. My eyes themselves did not get any symptom relief. It also has ethanol as an ingredient . Why would you want to spray ethanol onto your eyes??
I called Reckitt and Benckisser on their consumer line to ask about the ethanol and also complain that it does not work as advertised. My details were taken and no one called back. nothing. I liked the concept, however it did not deliver expensive. ineffective. poor customer service for queries.
