Great Unit and never had any problem – Bought it light years ago and never had any trouble with it. It was so long ago I don't even remember where I bought it but it was ahead of its time state of the art electronics. Show details ·  2

Best DVD/VHS Combo EVER! – Being a former film lecturer, I have (sadly) collected over 3000+ VHS tapes from 1979 - 2010. Moving house, I had to stow them all in storage boxes and (sadly, again) thought that was that. Fond memories lost in dusty boxes like the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Then one day, a film director I was interviewing confessed he was similarly… Read more

addicted to taping VHS and secretly whispered to me about the Panasonic DMR-EZ47V he found on eBay. It was like that moment at the end of "Citizen Kane" (apres Raiders) when you suddenly realise that everything you see after that is... different. Best consumer product I have ever bought in my entire life. If you can find any remaining 47/48V units, buy them up now before I do...

Excellent – This thing is amazing. I have owned a lot of VCR/DVD players in my time, and I have to say this tops them all by a mile. I bought this because I have a collection of NTSC VHS tapes that I needed to convert to DVD (getting a unit like this one is one of the only ways to do this here in Oz). Converting from VHS to DVD was a complete breeze. Plus… Read more ·  1

there are just SO many cool features (see above for just a few -- or grab the manual off the Panasonic website to see what you can do), it's amazing. I was going to just sell this on eBay once I finished digitising the DVDs, but after seeing how cool it is, I just can't go back to the LG DVD/VHS combo. It is a bit pricey for a DVD recorder, but you definitely get your money's worth - this has to be the Rolls Royce of DVD players. *Easy to use and intuitive - has a very full-featured and sophisticated graphical user interface. The interface has tons of nice little features - e.g. the ability to name your timer recording programs using a full soft keybaord character set.

*Built in digital tuner - you can browse digital broadcast listings and create a timer recording program straight from the listing.

*Ticks all the boxes in terms of connections/latest technologies. Can use a very wide range of DVD media, unlike earlier models of the Panasonic recorders and some other brands.

*The DVD recorder - I used this to record shows off Foxtel and the quality is amazingly better than VHS. Like verbatim quality -- and this is only using the SP setting (there are two higher quality settings, LP and EP - maybe makes a difference if you're recording HD stuff, but for normal definition, SP is just as good)

*Can use rewritable DVDs. You really only need 1 DVD to use this thing (I think one DVD can hold like 6 hours at SP, so you can just keep erasing it and reusing it)

*Has tons of DVD editing features - e.g. you can name the tracks, etc.

*Supports switching from NTSC output to PAL output back and forth

*Seems to have better compability with overseas DVDs. E.g. I have DVDs from overseas that won't play in my LG DVD player, but will play in this one. *This is kind of nitpicky, but I find it's not easy to take the DVDs produced using the recorder and then rip the video onto your computer. I suppose people don't do this anyway, but the format the DVD recorder uses is somewhat non-standard and a lot of video producing software seems to struggle with it.

Excellent – A good perfomer with no real problems and it finalises discs just fine. Still can play all standard media with ease. NTSC compatible means zero regioned DVD's work perfectly even today. Everything that should work does on this machine since my last review. Not bad for something made 3 years ago! (I would never consider any other brand of DVD… Read more

recorder except maybe SONY...) Besides what I have already mentioned in a past review, all the bells and whistles this model has for the price. Still going strong today. (Early last year, I took it to a service centre for a small reason, and was told the DVD-RAM drive was intermittently faulty, resulting in a replacement (under warranty) which since then has not failed once although at the time I didn't believe there was anything wrong with the device...) The only limitation is the tuner cannot decode HD, and it would be nice if the user could 'skip' the undecodable channels in the DVB and keep only those which work, but sadly, cannot do so. In spite of this, still no real 'cons' and I still have some of the extended warranty left so I am happy.

Excellent – Overall I am very happy with this unit and am enjoying being able to record with ease. It has made life a lot easier, the picture quality is unmistakable and I am loving being able to record shows that are on late at night. I bought this unit about a year ago because we have a lot of vcr tapes and didn't want to make them obsolete. It had all the… Read more

functions we needed including recording shows onto disk to watch later. To date we haven't had any problems with it. We also have a panasonic tv so both units can be operated by the one remote control. The only thing that is anoying is that it takes a while to turn on while there is already a disk inside.

Excellent – From the time you open the box and connect the unit it was extremely easy to use. The built in SD Tuner self connects to digital TV and sets it self up automatically and for someone like myself who is a little tech-challenged, this was brilliant. The only unit to buy with SD tuner, VHS player and DVD Player/recorder. I think Panasonic were the… Read more

only ones to bring out a model like this. This VHS/DVD player is highly recommended for the oldies who aren't ready to give up the cassette tapes!! Great build quality and feel.
