I have a Panasonic DMR-XW440 (not GLK). I cannot get the TV Guide to show on our smart TV (LG). is this because the Panasonic is an older model? Or am I missing something somewhere??

Hi bjdkx2, please refer below. Q1. Is the DMR-XW440 connected to the LG TV as per page 14 of the O/I? Q2. Have you been using this unit on another Tv (not the LG TV) without issue? Q3. Has the DMR-XW440 worked normally previously when connected to the LG TV?

Q4. Can you play a DVD & watch it on the LG TV?

How old would this model be & is it compatible with Netflix ?

My DVD layer is approx. 3 years old. I am not able to help you with the Netflix issue. My understanding of Netflix is that it is connected to you TV not DVD. Sorry I have no further information about this.

Hi Sherry, this was released in 2013, sorry Netflix isn't on this recorder.

We have a DMR-XW 440 and recently it has stopped recording on one of the tuners. If we record two programs that are overlapping then one records and the other comes up as no signal and does not record. Is this a mechanical failure or would a reset work. If you do a reset does this wipe the hard drive. Cheers John

Hi John, sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing. We would always suggest a factory reset as the first place to start. You won't lose what is on the hard drive, just any future recordings that you have set up.

Many thanks for your quick response. I unplugged the recorder from power for 10 minutes and it seems to have fixed the problem. We love Panasonics products and have been using them for years.

I'm sorry I'm not sure I can help you with that. Have you checked the Panasonic Operating Instructions? Maybe check in your search engine for an answer. Best of luck

This happens all the time, with Panasonic recorders, simply leave it on the channel you want EPG info on, ie channel 7 will result in all of sevens channels EPG data loading, simply leave it on all the main channels for about 2 mins & all the other channels associated with that channel will load too

I've recently purchased this but can't get it to play recorded programs sequentially, automatically moving from one recorded program to the next. I could do this playlist style on my older model. On this model I seem to have to start each program separately. Any ideas?

When you select Direct Navigator on your remote. At the very top of the screen the various modes are listed. eg All, Not viewed, Movies Drama, Sport and AVCHD. Hope that helps

Is anyone aware that the remote control unit (which comes with the recorder) is not covered by the manufacturers warranty (therefore it will not be cover under the extended warranty either)?

The Panasonic DMR-XW440GLK is worth every cent. If you can find a better one, great. Who gives a dam if the remote control unit is not covered by the manufacturer. My old Panasonic remote can be used on my new unit. Do other manufacturers cover their remote control units on TVs, DVD Players Hi Fi units etc?

This is simply a nonsense. Under ACL (Australian Consumer Law) a product must be fit for purpose and must be warranted for the usual life of the product I.e. A remote accompanying a controlled unit must last as long as the expected life of the controlled unit (TV or other device) or else be repaired or replaced under Consumer Law. A manufacturer cannot by law exclude a product that is not a consumable (batteries media etc). A manufacturer may not state that any part is excluded from warranty as this is contrary to the protections offered under consumer law in Australia.

Extended warranties are an absolute waste of your money as under ACL a product is warrantied for the usual life expectancy of the product. A device such as this product would be expected to have a life in excess of 5 years and no Extended warranty goes for that length of time so under ACL the product has its own protections. Most reliable Manufacturers would rather replace the unit as opposed to have a customer ranting about the dismal product unnecessarily.

I say most reliable manufacturers this rule does not apply to ASUS. ASUS believe they are above the law. If you are foolish enough to purchase product made by ASUS then you better buy a concrete mixer to go with it as their products are very unreliable and they don't give a damn Great for making boat anchors with. Especially their laptop PC's Abolute rubbish and guaranteed not to work from day one. Bought a batch of them and not one of them worked out of the box. All had to have major components replaced but they didn't honour the warranty. So if you read this be warned Do Not Buy ASUS anything especially Computing equipment. They pay lip service only to their lawful obligations but basically don't care about the law.

Like said above, remotes are a part of the device you bought, they are covered by warranties & these are usually easy to fix anyway, sometimes the infrared led burns out or just needs re-soldering, it sometimes breaks the solder connection to the circuit board, due to small drops on the coffee table, not saying your too ruff with it, everyone does this from time to time... ;-)

They are not!!! Since I reported to AAAC there is a note (in a small print) on each product box stating that the remote control unit is not forming part od a product!
