Unit will not start
Hi Paul, Obvious first check are, Check Power Connections: Ensure the power cable is securely plugged into both the back of the DMR-450 and a working wall outlet. Try a different power outlet and a different power cable to rule out a faulty cable or socket. Perform a Power Cycle/System Reset: Unplug the unit from the wall for at least 10 seconds (or several minutes for a more thorough reset). Plug the unit back in and attempt to power it on. If the unit still does not work you have a problem.
Couple of months ago my DMR-EX87 (earlier version) started to take a while to start, then finally would not start at all. I did some research and found that a common problem with this unit was that some of the capacitors on the main board dry out. Fortunately I have an electronic background so I opened up the unit and found that this looked like the problem with my unit. I enquired with the Panasonic agent in SA regarding spare parts, they came back and said due to the age of the unit parts were not available(??) I then sourced the required parts via an Australian parts dealer and although they were sourced from their HO in the UK they arrived in three days total cost about $35. I replaced all the capacitors on this board and "walla" the unit is working again. I can supply more details if you want to investigate if this is the problem with yours. A visual check of the board may answer your question.

Is my recorder Blu Ray. I need a new remote control and am a little confused.
Hi, my unit died and I've replaced with a new Blu Ray unit. The problem is, a DVD is in the tray, as the unit's not powering up, I can't retrieve it. Can the tray be manually opened? Thanks, Mandy
Hi Mandy, someone will need to remove the disc, which involves pulling the unit apart, please contact our customer service team on 132600 who can provide the detail of the nearest service centre.
Is this model mpeg4 compatible?
Hi Rebecca, sorry it isn't MPEG4 compatible. external link
Coming back from a 3 week-away I tried to start my DMR-XW350 with my remote this morning. The unit was on standby as the time display was on. As soon as I pressed the red power button on the remote, the time display disappeared and the unit went dead. I then tried to start with the power button on the main unit, but to no avail, even if I hold this button for >10secs, as per the manual. I also tried the old trick of pulling out and plugging back the power plug at the wall, without luck. Can someone advise please.
Hi Hung, sounds like your recorder has developed a fault, please call our customer service team on 132600 who will be able to assist you with finding the nearest service centre.
Thanks.
my DVD PLAYER has stopped recording two channels for last three days how can i reset it
My recorder states when you try to select two programs to record simultaneously "the program's overlap with another timer program and it may not work properly. What could the problem be?
When turning on the player it automatically plays a dvd/CD if there is one loaded. Extremely annoying! How do I turn off auto-play
Hi SMD, sorry but you are unable to turn auto-play.
If remote is not working is there any other ways to get on the recorded movies?
Hi Joan, you are able to purchase a replacement remote control via a spare parts distributor. You won't be able to play your recordings or record further without the remote control. external link
With a DMR-BWT450 How do you record one channel and watch another channel?
I deleted a program I'd finished watching and the tv went black. Can't get anything to appear on the screen. The display on the recorder says NAV 1. Any ideas?
Nena, I wish we had the answer for you - amazingly the exact same thing happened with our XW350 last night when deleting a video we had finished watching - so hopefully someone else can help us both. Dorothy
Can I program my recorder to record repeating episodes of a TV show?
No - if I remember correctly this unit does NOT do a 'series tag' like the TiVo/Fetch/Galaxy et al.
Yes you can set it up to record weekly, daily, mon-fri etc
Our Panasonic hard drive TV program guide does not show Channel 9 stations in the guide. Therefore we are unable to record any Channel 9 programs via the hard drive. The field is completely blank and has been for some time. How do we correct this problem? everything else is working OK.
Have you tried re tuning channels on your recorder ?, also channel 91 should get channel 9 , since 9 introduced their HD channel you might not be able to tune it in as they now broadcast in mpeg 4 instead of mpeg 2, I believe if your recorder was built before 2009 it is unlikely you can view channels eg 9, &10 hd ,channel 74 or channel 76 in SD, if you can't get these channels I think it's fair to say this is what's causing your problem
We have re-tuned channels on our recorder, which was bought in 2012 see is not the pre-2009 problem. Channels including 10 working fine its only channel 9 and its associated channels, e.g. 91 etc.
have recorded many programs and have played them without fault. But now I cant move up or down to choose a recording. Have changed my batteries in remote control. It seems that all the other controls work fine until I try to pick a recording with the up down arrows. Any ideas?
Hi, I don't know why this problem occurred for me, but it did and after extensive googling, I tried the old standard turning it off at the wall, keeping it off for a minute, and then turning it on again, and now it is all working again. So bizarre. Hope this works for you.
Well Karyn .I don't know what has happened but i went out straight back to my TV and switched it on and went to my saved programs and retried it and went to the saved programs AND would you believe it,the arrow moved up and down like a charm and all i have done is switch the the TV on and now it works.SO THANKS FOR THE KIND THOUGHTS.
RON.
I had the same problem. I thought I had a faulty remote (just recently I had opened it up and cleaned everything). So today I ordered a brand newbie on ebay. In the meantime I thought I'd have a closer look at whether my remote was actually transmitting to the recorder. Doh, yes it was! So I jumped onto google and found this post. I then pulled the power cable out, plugged it back in after a few minutes, and hey presto - everything works again! Oh well, it will be good to have a new remote that I can now rely on, but it was also good to get the advice of the OP - at least while waiting for the new remote we can still watch our recorded programs.
Have been using my Panasonic DMR-450 for recording to HDD. Have been unable to record to disc. Keeps telling me disc not compatible. I have DVD- discs and also DVD+ discs. Can someone advise me what I'm doing wrong. At 75 years old I'm finding the book confusing to say the least!!!
mine dose exactly the same thing from when I bought it but then all of a sudden one day it worked and now it dosent again I thought it was me I bought every type of dvd+ but makes no difference so you are do nothing wrong it is all the machine
Hi, I had this problem too, out of the blue. But I was pleasantly suprised when I ran a DVD/CD Head Cleaner through the system and then it worked again. I'm guessing the reading lens had become dirty. Anyway, worth a try? It worked for me.
I am going away fro a few weeks and wish to record my favourite show every week. I have not been able to follow the instructions in the book. Can you tell me what to do please?
I'm sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I think this model of machine had an early timer function which could only go about 2 weeks in advance maximum. Newer machines have this 'timer tag' feature that will record anything with the title you request (space permitting).
