AirTouch 4

Similar experience to others, customer service unhelpful (don't seem to really understand the products they sell) and the Airtouch is really unreliable. Often we turn it on and the air con doesn't start at all. Nothing. Turn Off. On, off, on, eventually sometimes works, sometimes doesnt. Wifi drops out and you have to do a full reboot of the unit.… Read more
Easy when you use technology everyday, if you don't, good luck working out how to do that! Thought we were getting a high end product (about an extra $4k for the airtouch)... wish we'd gone with the factory Daikin controller... it was free and it worked perfectly in our last house.
5 stars for nasty service – Had an awful experience with Polyaire’s customer service regarding my AirTouch 5. The console wouldn’t connect to the internet, it kept logging me out, and I couldn’t use the app either. I had called a day earlier, but the technicians never got back to me, so I reached out again just to get a reference number for my complaint. Despite this simple… Read more
request, both the customer service team and the supervisor were dismissive and unhelpful. I’m incredibly disappointed with the lack of support and professionalism. Easily the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with.

product could be wonderful but support and warranty is very difficult – Support is very poor. We had to wait year to have the Koala installers fix their initial mistake, Malcomb did not realise there were doors that closed zones off and so the system could not vent back to the return grill - it was a year before he left it to to Ray, his apprentice, who upon the installing additional return grills at a cost of 1k… Read more
seemed to create a new issue with the system overheating, now we set it at 21 and get 24dg C - Samsung Say they do not support Air touch and air touch say the warranty is with the installers..... this is the response we get for an 11k Australian insulation. While the unit works its invariable that there will need to be after market support. Airtouch support is literally you call a person to leave a message for someone somewhere in the country with a mobile phone to call you back at random just to say that the installers are responsible and are very limited in their capacity
Airtouch NSW resolved the issue after six days of back-and-forth messaging till it was found that… Read more (+4 replies)
Useful, but not a good support experience – This product is okay, at best. We've had it for a couple of years now, and for mine the problems with the AirTouch are pretty simple: 1) You still need to have another aircon manufacturer controller installed (more on this below) 2) It's expensive for what it is That being said it's a helpful control app for the unit, and the use interface for… Read more
the A/C is pretty good with remote connectivity being a usability winner with my family.
The real risk you need to understand installing anything from AirTouch is that it's an aftermarket controller for the aircon unit. If you get an error it doesn't understand (as I have) the AirTouch people will tell you it's the A/Cs fault, and the A/C company will tell you that you need one of their controllers to read the error message. You end up paying unhelpful & expensive callout fees and once you do, the problem may not get fixed anyway.
We have an MHI ducted system, and to get an error looked at we had to install their MHI controller ($), then the AirTouch still showed transient errors in the cold - and it was early morning so we couldn't get someone out to see it while it was happening. We have given up trying to fix it and just expect our heater will be offline occasionally first thing on a winter's morning (i.e. when you need it most...)
I'd best summarise this as useful when it works, but really, really painful when it doesn't. The relationship between AirTouch and your A/C manufacturer can be really problematic.
The other usability disappointment is that you pay a lot of money for (what is in effect) an Android tablet, but it's such a low-powered custom device that very little else that would make it useful runs on it, and the performance is terrible.
I will never buy one again, and we're looking at what options we have to replace it.

Issues after issues – This is so poorly made that I have had nothing but lots of problems with internet connection. It keeps dropping off the internet all the time. I had to replace one as it died as it could not update and the next one worked fine for a while but is heading in the same way as the first one. I am so sick of it. Show details

Great product , slow customer service – I bought and installed an Airtouch 5 kit , I’m an electronics engineer so quite straight forward , I did have a few queries post install which I sent to Airtouch received 1 liner replies ( Randy) which where so brief and no accurate as to be unhelpful but Randy did follow up with a Tel call ...thanks Polyaire and Randy :) Show details · 1
Polyair Airtouch - Don't touch it! – My Polyair Airtouch 2 stopped working yesterday. It is still in warranty so I called Airtouch. Yes, they said, but we only warranty parts. If you want it fixed we'll have to charge you a call-out fee and any labour costs. Of course, if the parts are faulty then they will be covered under warranty. Bad product. Useless sensors. No temperature controls – This product is just a marketing hype. It don't control individual zone temperatures. I have to manually manage zone airflow percentages to do the work around. Eventually manually turning on and off zones is the only option. Customer service is non-existent. Don't waste your money on this product. Show details

Terrible design from a company who doesn't care – I was so excited when I got this installed, but that all faded so quickly. I was optimistic that the software would be updated, and the obvious issues fixed - it should've been as easy as them updating the android app - only for the developers to confirm they could've done a much better job, but have no plans to fix any of the bugs and my only… Read more

Constantly dropping off the wifi and doing a terrible job of managing the ac zones. I regret not just buying the Daikin controller. Won't even run any other apps.

Unresponsive sales team – This rating is for customer service. Over a two week period I have called four times, emailed, and submitted a web form request for a sales consultation. A good system that could be great – We have had an Airtouch4 for about a year. All in all I like it, and it's much, much better than not having a zoning systems. I wouldn't have a ducted system without an Airtouch or similar temperature controlled zoning system. Airtouch is good, but complex. There's heaps of settings including some that are key to making sure it keeps temperature… Read more · 1
stable way back in the installer settings. Most installers probably don't understand them - get the password, read the documentation, and have a go yourself if it's not working how it should. Things like duct and return vent placement, temp sensor placement, and making sure there's a clear low resistance path between the supply vent and the return vent are all important.
Ours has zones for our lounge and three bedrooms. We found that it keeps the bedrooms within one degree of the set temperature. A key problem is the spill zone. When the bedrooms are almost up to heat say needing only 0.2 more it will put those rooms on 5% airflow for some time, which means 95% of the airflow goes into the lounge regardless of the current temperature. That means the lounge / spill zone set to 24 degrees can sometimes get to 26 or 27 degrees. Changing a setting way back in the installer settings improved this a bit, but it's still not great. The best workaround we've found is to set the heating to come on a couple of hours before we need the rooms warm, everything then settles and we don't have as many problems. You can also install a bypass duct according to the installers manual, but we don't have one of them.
Another thing that isn't great is the timer - it's terrible. You can't change modes or fan speed, just temperature. I don't use auto anything because I know what I want. Instead I've set up Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi as a complex remote for the Airtouch. This is working quite well, but it shouldn't be necessary.
I'll comment on a few of the things other people have said in their reviews: - I find the app works well either when I'm in the house on WiFi or out and about on mobile data - Wireless temp sensor seem to report the temperature fine, and after a year we haven't had to change the batteries yet. Make sure you mount them all at about the same height, and near the exit to the room where the air's flowing. - If your air conditioner minimum output is too large / high then your spill zone issues will be worse. A small minimum output is really important - Customer service is pretty poor from Airtouch. They sometimes reply to contact form, they sometimes reply to emails, they sometimes pick up the phone.
Cost to run and water overflow enquiry – Just wondering I'd anyone can tell me the cost of running the Air Touch 4 through winter. We have 8 zones. Also our system in winter leaks a huge amount of water from the outdoor unit. Doesn't have any hose connected so just runs down our footpath which is now going green. Anyone else have this problem?? Highly unreliable – Two Stars for the fact that it has an API and the local controls are working. When it comes to wireless and cloud I haven't seen a more unreliable product. All TV's, Phones etc in the place are working fine. This thing is unreachable most of the time. It may be a combination of Air Touch 4 and the Archer Wifi, but the fact that the Wifi works fine with all other nodes points towards crappy firmware on the Air Touch 4. The Air Touch 2+ was fine. understand themselves why it doesnt work as they dont have sensors in every zone or just in the wrong spot in a zone or silly things like wondering why air is rushing out well probably because its the only spill zone set and the air has to go somewhere if the fan is running, derr. If your ducting is good and you use the polyaire 24vac dampers (others might be ok but i cant comment as i used the polyaire ones) it will perform exactly as the manual says right down to "hey google can you turn the aircon on".
Airtouch4 4 – Had this installed with new ducting system and Daiken 16kw motor. The system is fast quick and easy to control from our mobile phone app. Heats the home up quickly, can use the zone function for children, where to heat up and where not heat required. Nice tablet, the mobile phone app is very user friendly. Show details · 1
Great addition to our house – I read some of these other reviews and I seriously wonder if someone has it in for the company. we've been delighted with a couple of things:
1. The speed with which the areas we do want to heat or cool responded. 2. The ability to control the system from our smartphones, which has been 100% reliable 3. The fidelity of control we have over the system.
I can wake up in a cold morning and use the phone to turn on the heat before I get out of bed. I can leave the AC on at night and set the timer from my phone to shut it off.
In all, it has really made our AC system 'dance' and work the way we imagined it should work, we wouldn't do without it.
Not here Mate – Employees from AirTouch came to our house to install an aircon, when we assured them they had the wrong address they were rude and ignored me when i spoke to them, in addition to this they caused damage to our trees and garden beds bringing a large truck into our driveway. I contacted their office twice but they never replied,. reading other reviews this appears to be their corporate culture, i would say BEWARE

Fancy unreliable wireless sensors are not fit for purpose – Wireless sensors are cheap and easy to install but extremely unreliable. The Airtouch 4 might have tons of fancy features, but none of that is of any use if the temperature sensors cannot be relied upon to communicate with the controller. There are far too many wireless devices in the residential space because they are easy to install. This means… Read more
interference between devices. When it comes to AC, I strongly recommend only getting a wired system to ensure reliable connectivity between the thermostat and the controller.
I am going to ask my installer to see if they can wire the sensors to the controller or rip out this system. I do not want to have to go through another heat wave or cold snap with this system that is not fit for purpose.

Don’t bother – Had this installed in our new home in November 2019. The installers had programmed the return air sensor as the main thermostat which was mounted in the ceiling. So on a hot day the sensor was always reading at least 5 degrees higher than actual ambient room temp. So every time the air con was switched on, the air con was running flat chat and… Read more
all the rooms were freezing. I rang Polyaire Support, which is a bloke on the end of a mobile phone in North Queensland somewhere (were in Sydney) who wasn’t that very interested in helping out and suggested that we contact the original air con installers. Which I did and they came out but they had no clue either! So after some research on google I finally fixed the sensor issue myself and changed it to an average of temperatures picked up around the house and the air con now runs more efficiently. Problem solved (by myself !) 2nd problem with this unit is it has a lot of bugs in it and seems to have a mind of its own. We have three zones in our house and we set to a specific temp and velocity but after about 30mins goes back to default setting and directs most, if not all of the air through 1 vent which feels like a cyclone. The phone app is good because you can switch off an on remotely but that as far as that goes. Needs a bit more work on the program Polyaire. The idea is good but the execution and customer support is poor.

Pretty good could be better – We have had this installed for a few weeks on a new 20kw ducted Daikin system. Polyaire advised my installer that the Daikin controller can’t remain plugged in. So for later settings adjustment it’s a bit of ' a procedure . Like unplug the airtouch module in my ceiling, reconnect Daikin controller, carry out settings changes. Then reconnect… Read more · 1
airtouch and disconnect Daikin control pad. Not all error / diagnostics codes show up on the airtouch, for instance if it is defrosting it won’t show the symbol. Apparently not all systems need to have the main controller unplugged after initialisation... It’s great to balance airflow and the app works pretty well. What’s annoying is if you have certain zones on then turn your system off. Then a program comes on with different zones selected, it won’t shut ' down the zones you had previously on. Being android based I would have thought it could be smart enough to do this.
I purchased individual temp sensors a few months after initial installation . AC was an afterthought by our homes designer so the return air is not in a great spot and the unit was using return air for its temperature reading. Individual temperature sensors set to “average “ reading have made a huge difference to the way it all runs in our home

Airtouch 4 is an excellent system – I’ve had an Airtouch4 system installed now for almost a year and it has worked flawlessly during this time. Great product if installed and set up correctly – Great Product ! My old zone control ceased up in the middle of a heat wave and forced me to re-look at the design of our entire ducted system. What I quickly found out is that our unit was under designed by roughly 40% and I was thinking of upgrading our old inverter 12Kw system to a 18Kw system. The chaps at Climat Royston Park convinced me to… Read more · 1
just upgrade the ducting and install an Airtouch System with temperature sensors that will be able to automatically adjust the air balancing. This would leave me with the option to upgrade the system up to 22Kw if I ever felt the need. This advice saved me $ 10K. The system upgrade took 5 hours and included 9 Zones. For the 1st time ever the AC inverter unit is not running at a constant 100% and our house is the coolest it has ever been. This is a great product. How the product is initially set up and installed is key and I can also highly recommend the team at Climat Royston Park.
A good concept unfortunately it doesn't work – This unit was put into my house to control a ducted air-conditioning unit. Supposedly it allows you to individually control the temperature and airflow in individual rooms and automatically shut off units at appropriate stages. Unfortunately it does not work and you need to manually switch the air-conditioning on/off as the temperature in the… Read more
main area reaches the desired level.
My normal setup is I will have the 2 or 3 main rooms in the house switched on to 24 or 25 degrees. All rooms get to below that level and the secondary rooms then seem to stabilise but the main area keeps cooling. See the example picture where the main area has made it down to 19degrees.
The result of this is that I have to manually turn the air-conditioning off when it reaches a reasonable temperature and then switch it back on later. It also runs the external unit throughout this time using substantially more electricity then it needs to.
On the positive I can say that the mobile app does work and I can do the switching off and on without having to get up. Although it is a little slow to respond so sometimes it just quicker to get up anyway.
I have been in contact with the company who had a guy come on site a few times. He agreed it was an issue, replaced a pile of parts, changed some settings and then no further follow up despite me sending multiple screenshots of the problem still occurring.
