 AI reviews summary

QBE Landlord Insurance receives high praise for its competitive pricing and streamlined digital onboarding process. Customers frequently report significant savings compared to major competitors, alongside a user-friendly online quoting system that uses pre-populated data to save time. While the initial purchase experience is highly rated, some users express concern regarding steep premium increases at renewal and a lack of a dedicated online customer portal for policy management.

Pros
  • Competitive Pricing: Numerous reports of premiums being significantly lower than other major Australian insurers, with some users saving hundreds of dollars by switching.
  • Efficient Quoting System: The online platform is praised for being intuitive and fast, specifically for its ability to pre-populate property details and provide real-time price adjustments when changing coverage options.
  • Broad Coverage Options: Users appreciate specific inclusions that can be difficult to find elsewhere, such as cover for short-term rentals and damage caused by a tenant's pet.
  • Helpful Customer Support: When digital issues arise, the Australian-based phone support is described as professional, knowledgeable, and efficient.
Cons
  • Renewal Premium Increases: Significant price hikes at the time of renewal are a recurring issue, with some premiums more than doubling despite no changes in risk or claims history.
  • Lack of Customer Portal: Feedback indicates the absence of a self-service portal, forcing customers to rely on phone or email for administrative tasks and policy viewing.
  • Payment System Glitches: Technical errors during the checkout phase, including failures to recognise valid credit card expiry dates and issues with "pay later" options, have been reported.
  • Loyalty Incentives: Long-term customers noted a lack of rewards or discounts for staying with the brand, often finding better rates only by starting a completely new policy.
Verdict

QBE Landlord Insurance is a strong contender for property owners seeking immediate cost savings and a hassle-free online setup. However, the potential for sharp premium increases after the first year and the lack of a digital management portal may require users to actively shop around at each renewal period.

5 Lambert Z.  · easy to quote, things were explained clearly the policy has a competitive price
5 George Angelogiannos  · Was a fast and easy way to get a quote to compare against other insurance companies. The policy was great value.
5 MIKE  · online quotation process is very user friendly. Very cost efficient compared with all 5 stars canstars

5 Josie  · best price by far and very easy to navigate the online quote

The online quote system is reasonably easy to use. But I couldn't retrieve the earlier quote. The system kept 'crashing', hence doing a new quote. In the end, price and products are competitive. Show details ·  1

Easy process doing this online as are most companies. Easy language used and easy to follow and check the Terms and Conditions. Best of all was a lower price than my usual insurer. However, we never know just how good or bad our insurer is until we actually make a claim. Show details ·  1

Good Landlord Insurance offering. Lots of questions but the website for taking out a new landlord policy is well set up and quick. Pricing was competitive, at the time, but need to keep comparing when taking out any policy. Independent review by Choice recently gave QBE a good report in 2025. Show details ·  1

Excellent cover, online application was a breeze and almost $800 LESS for my annual premium than with RACV - and I get a ton of "loyalty" discounts with RACV! I've been with RACV for over 25 years - my Landlord's premium went up $332 this year!!! I'll likely move ALL my insurances to QBE now. Show details ·  1

BEWARE OF THE QBE RENEWAL TRAP! I took out my first QBE landlord insurance policy last year. The 2025 yearly premium was $2,121.66 per annum. Thankfully, never made a claim, in fact, never had to contact QBE. This year, at renewal, my yearly premium was increased by more than double, to $5,670.56. The stated reason for the increase (I quote… Read more

verbatim): This increase reflects our current assessment of the flood risk at your insured address. We appreciate a price increase is never easy to hear.

What a joke! Flood risk same as last year, mate. Did a quick check comparison online and every other major insurance provider - Hollard (CommBank), Hollard (Everyday Insurance), EBM and AIA came back with a quote close to the 2025 premium, showing that no other insurer deemed the property as having increased "flood risk".

QBE - I really wanted to renew with you, but after your disappointing (robotic?) premium renewal email, I'll be going elsewhere.

For anyone interested, EBM specialise in landlord protection so I will be going with them in 2026.

My initial review: Just signed up based on reviews from Product Review. Premiums are very competitive. Hope the same experience continues when it comes to claim as well. Latest update: Sorry, I should have updated this months ago! My annual insurance was paid by the rental agent but he rounded off the amount (by 30 cents more than required as I… Read more

sent him the rounded figure!). Instead of making my policy in-force they kept sending payment reminders for outstanding premium. I had to send couple of emails to get their response as it took more than a week to get a reply.

They do not have a customer portal to view your own policy. Email response is pathetic and the only way to get to them is through phone! Finally, when I called, I luckily spoke to someone that understood the issue. She was able to raise a request to process my payment and refund the excess amount.

They raised a complaint that went into their age old processing system. I got few emails and final response after 2 months!

I am glad that I cancelled my policy within the 21 days cooling off period through the person that helped me through the phone. The one star that gave is for her.

I ended up signing with APIA, which has online account portal and all other good stuff. I will give them a good review on the product review page.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend QBE to anyone as I do not trust in their highly inefficient outdated processes and procedures.

Insurance is too expensive but we have no choice. This time I got discounted price because I have a Costco membership. It will be good if insurance companies reward loyal customer instead of new customer. The world we live in no reward for loyalty. Show details ·  1

The website is easy to manoeuvre. The choices to individualise the product make significant differences in the price of the final product. The prices are fair. From experience, I know that the service in case of a claim is excellent. Show details ·  1

It was very easy to set up new landlord insurance policy online. I’ve found that with other policies whenever I have had to talk to someone from QBE they are easy to understand, based in Australia, friendly and helpful. Show details ·  1

The process was surprisingly simple and quick. I've used a few online quote portals recently and some ask so many questions about every little irrelevant detail, this was very simple and efficient, and the insured sum calculation was helpful and easy to understand Show details ·  1

The online application was very easy unlike some other insurers. QBE made it easy to see what was insured. The questions were straight forward. One thing to watch out for is the price between the standard QBE quote and the velocity Frequent flyer QBE quote. The quote with velocity is higher. I also liked that payment option of paying later. I've got almost 2 weeks before I need my new policy to start, I didn't want to pay up now so the pay later option is very good. Keeping the funds in my pocket.

I would prefer renewals to be cheaper or the same price as going through the process of a new quote each year, it would show recognition of customer loyalty. I have never lodged a claim. Show details ·  3

Overall, an easy request to quote but for the final stage...an email of the quotation was sent but it is only valid for the day of quotation. When I retrieved the quotation and wanted to proceed, there was a 'technical' issue and I was asked to call but only during office hours...but my quotation was made on Sunday and only valid for the day of quotation...so, it would not void by the time I call in!. Show details ·  1

Generally quite good, will insure stuff others won't like Airbnb rented holiday homes - However, automatic renewal was not easy to alter so re started the policy to save $400. Although the proof in an insurer and their quality is when you need to make a claim which thankfully I haven't had to yet. Show details ·  1

The experience of purchasing a policy online with QBE was by far the best compared to other insurers. The questionnaire was much more mature and thoughtfully designed, allowing me to provide only minimal information. It was clear that significant effort had gone into pre-populating property details from various sources, which meant I didn’t have… Read more ·  1

Overall, QBE stood out as the clear winner—and the cherry on top was that the premium was significantly cheaper than the other quotes I received.

Amazing, I though Budget Direct was meant to be the cheapest, however QBE suprised me. I usually shop around, luckily this time around I read the canstar email with some recommendations and QBE was infact cheaper. Saved $278.00 for the same12 month Landlord insurance policy. Well done me. Show details ·  1
