Devastating – We experienced a catastrophic failure with the hot water system in our van, which flooded the interior and caused extensive damage. The van has been assessed as a total loss, yet RACV has repeatedly denied our claim, citing various clauses in their policy. This has left us with a significant financial burden and caused immense frustration and stress. We initially chose RACV for the peace of mind that comes with being covered for unexpected accidents, but this experience has been nothing short of disappointing. The communication throughout this ordeal has been abysmal. I strongly advise against using RACV for your insurance needs.
Over 16 months with no claim resolution – After 15 years and being a silver member of RACV, we are yet to receive an outcome from our claim made in May 2022. We have been unable to travel in our camper trailer we purchased as we came out of lockdown as a means to travel within Australia and support the community as we recovered from the pandemic. We did not receive any comms from RACV unless initiated ourselves, have been informed there are still delays for the parts required and yet they will only offer us a small amount to seek repairers ourselves. So dissapointing. We have never had an issue with car insurance however I will be re-thinking our current car insurance policy and never insuring our future caravan with RACV again.

Excellent customer service and claim process – We were unlucky enough to sustain quite extensive hail damage on the side of our caravan in October and were of course devastated as we hear many horror stories of getting things fixed and many are written off. We didn't want that as our caravan is from Canada and a very long wait would have been involved to get a new one. I have nothing but praise for the way our claim was handled and how quickly authorisation was given to have it repaired. We have it back now thank heavens as we may have to use it to live in when earthquake damage on our house is commenced! Unfortunately with so many devastating events in this Country in the past 12mths, I can understand why Insurance claims are taking time to finalise so we have lucky Thank you RACV Claims Dept!
RACV Caravan Insurance - warning – I have experienced RACV car insurance before as the ‘other party’ & customer service was excellent, but as a holder of caravan insurance it is the opposite. I have had a claim for storm damage open for over 3 months now (actually 4 months + but the first month was in lock down so out of their control) and I still can’t progress or even for them to call me with an update for that matter. I appreciate that times are busy right now but this is something different. I have now called them 5 times and each time they promise to call me back with an update but never do. Not once have they made progress on the claim and called/emailed to update me - every update has been after I’ve waited numerous weeks and then called them. Last call they told me you have to call them to get it moved up the queue. I thought that by putting the claim in 3-4 months before Christmas I’d be ok but now we’re a week away from Christmas holidays and I can’t use my van. If only they had talked to me about it as I could have planned accordingly, but there is zero visibility and communication which is the most disappointing part. Possibly the worst of it is that since I have been waiting for further communication from them, my van is literally just rotting. It’s not my nature to be pushy or complain to them so I’ll just cancel my policy, but I just want to warn consumers that RACV’s Caravan Insurance is appalling and not the peace of mind you think you have.
