Ridge Ryder 160W Solar Panel Kit Questions & Answers
My pv light is still on at night with no moon or anything is it back feeding or something
Green light shoes the controller is ON. The only feedback is to power the led. Normal operation.
Hi....Can it charge my ford Ranger car battery which also charges my brass monkey fridge in the tray via a car charge ciggie lighter plug (sorry, not sure of the correct terminology for them). Thanks
Yes it will
I run the unit, all good ut I've lost the booklet for it , can't remember what the difference in flashing lights, can u take a photo and post it, ?
Hi Steven if it is working correctly you on the mptt panel y should have 2 green lights on
Sorry mate pressed the wrong button. So yeah two green lights the left one closest to the edge of the panel should be flashing and the one next to it should be on full time. I've had mine for years now and still working a treat even in cloudy conditions. Hope this helps.
I am wondering if anyone knows the cable width of the leads on this unit. I am intending bypassing the unit's controller and will use single core 4mm2 solar to do so. Hopefully the panel also uses 4mm2 otherwise I am going to have to go down a MC4 adaptor rabbit hole!
Can I charge a lithium batterie with it?
Can you charge a fridge freezer
Hi Tom in answer to your question, you can't charge Fridge directly. You can buy a charge pack or a deep cycle battery and run your fridge off it whilst running the solar panel also to the battery keeping it charged. Cheers mate Treny
How do you assemble 160w folding solar panel kit
What is the Panel's weight?
I first purchased an XTM one and it was 8.3kg before I saw the Ridge Rider it was lighter and cheaper. It's a great panel and is going strong. Hope this helps as I don't have scales to weigh mine.
Hi guys are these panels strong enough to have on the roof rack of my car
Yes they are
Can I connect 1 x 169w old and 1 x 160w new ridge rider panels with only one controller and not damage either panels or batteries.
I think you would need a controller on both panels. But not 100% sure.
Can you have the solar panel out with a bit of rain?
Yes no problem
The controller says that it stops the battery from charging when 16v or so is reached in order to protect the battery. But isn’t it bad to charge a battery beyond 14.4v?! So wouldn’t the solar panel cook the battery?
Why do I need to connect the panel to batteries in the order shown on controller? Am I doing damage if I do it out of order?
I think they have built in safety to prevent damage. I have an Anderson plug on my leads from the batteries that I curl up and leave on the draw bar of our van. Then it's just a matter of plugging in the solar panel when I am using it. You can also purchase an inline meter from Supercheap to see your charge rate, battery % of charge etc. It comes already fitted with Anderson plugs $50 Hope this helps.
How do I bypass the panel controller as my van has an inbuilt bat mngt system? I note on the RR folding panel, there is an Anderson plug before the controller? Thanks
My batt green light keeps flashing rapidly, is that normal because to two batteries i had connected previously died together. Can anybody help me. Regards Les.
Not 100% sure mate I purchased a solar inline meter from Supercheap Auto about $50 shows battery charge state, amount going into batteries and the amps going out. Better than trying to read the LEDs on the Ryder panel.
Is a 600w inverter OK for the 160w folding solar panel with 100ah deep cycle battery. To run a small 32 inch smart. TV?
160w solar panel will be sifficiant to charge 100ah battery to 100% within the day. As for your TV, you will need to check the wattage of the TV to see if your 600w inverter has 3nough power to power your TV. Best to use a pure sign wave inverter as new TV'S do not like modifier sign wave inverter
No load supplied with controller unit so can it operate without load connected
