Value for Money

great value but one big problem – This chainsaw works very well. It cuts fire wood out of logs much larger than its bar length. However it has a problem. The clip holding the drive wheel falls off. Im on my second saw of this kind and its happened again. The replacement part is impossible to find, and without that clip the chain keeps slipping off. Show details

Value for Money – I had two 50ft trees to chop down and was prepared to do it myself. (A Peppercorn and a Gum Tree) My basis for Value for Money was that if the chainsaw lasted the time it took to fell the trees and cut them all up, then it was worth the money. The Trunks were just over 1 metre (3'6") in circumference. I removed the trees over 6 weekends and cut… Read more

them all up.

The Chainsaw started as per the instructions, first time everytime (it does get temperamental if you do not follow the procedure)

The chain lasted well and easy to sharpen. It is also a stock chain, so in all the hardware stores at a cheaper price.

Very easy to fill the oil and petrol

Pictorial instructions are not the best. Unless a little knowledgeable with what you are doing, it does not explain 2 and 4 stroke very well and the pictorials do not advise.

I have completed both trees and although looking well used, it has performed the same all the way through.

A lot cheaper than getting in a tree feller and now I have another toy for the shed.

Great value big bar a winner – Used it to trim palm stumps lower to ground , much better than the talon I had before and half the price. Great for yard work, the 30 :1 fuel oil mix seems different to all my other 2 stroke appliances though as they are all 25:1.  Show reply

Great value, Excellent performance – I needed a chainsaw for use around the home to cut down 4 mature trees and didn't want a petrol model to avoid the noise, smoke and messy/expensive fuel consumption. I had the choice of several prominent brands (Makita, Bosch, etc) or cheapy's from Bunnings (Ozito) and Mitre10 (Rockwell). As I have an aversion against anything house-branded from… Read more

Bunnings I chose to buy the Rockwell for $99

Very pleased to report the RG8301 has been a pleasure to use and it works great.

The 40cm/16inch bar & chain is an Oregon brand (perhaps low end) but has been just great. It stays sharp a good amount of time and is easy to re-sharpen. Chain tensioning couldn't be easier with the large self locking knob.

It's motor has plenty of torque, is much quieter than petrol equivalents, and although most of the unit is plastic it has been more than strong enough for the work so far.

I'm not sure that the self lubricating system is 100% because the chain would 'look dry' so I've taken the advice of other chainsaw owners and use a squeeze bottle to splash the chain every 5-10 minutes.

At 4.8kg it can get a bit heavy after a few hours, but it's hardly a problem and is lighter than most equivalent petrol models.
