Bring back Exelpet shampoo – I’ve used Exelpet flea shampoo for 15 years on my cat, no bad effects, always left cat fur fluffy and smelt beautiful like fresh after shave, cat happy and groomed straight away. This “ Rufus n Coco” that’s replaced Exelpet has left cat fur greasy looking, cat wouldn't groom after the wash, mouth profusely salivating and vomited after the wash,… Read more

smells damp and woody vile smell. Very sad, don’t know what else to try, won’t buy this one again it’s going in the bin.

Great for instant relief of fleas in cats – I use this product with my cat. It worked really well, killed fleas on contact. This is only one step for getting rid of fleas however. It is important to note that up to 95% of fleas is in the pet's environment (eggs, larvae and pupae) and thus you need to thoroughly clean like a madman to get an infestation under control. For an instant relief… Read more

this is a great product, it will sooth the skin and will leave the fur soft. The manufacturer recommends lathering in some of the product, rinsing and then doing it a second time before rinsing. (Then do it weekly until you are satisfied the product is working as it should.) Make sure you get all of the product off to prevent potential ingestion as the cat will try to groom when they are out and time to be dried off. It is important to note that while it may kill some fleas when used, since the flea infestation is mainly in the environment, re-infestation on your cat is very likely thus you cannot really say it didn't work for your cat's flea issue if you find more (alive) fleas the following day.

As suggested on the label, caution needs to be used when dealing with cats as the toxic dose for Pyrethrins has not been well established. You should always monitor your cat throughout the process while using this product. Cats are more sensitive to these compounds than dogs due to their altered liver gluruonidation metabolism. Yes, it includes the natural pyrethin as well as the very toxic synthetic version permethrin. It is said that about 5-10% concentration of pyrethrins might lead to systemic toxicosis. Doesn't seem like a lot at first glance because it really depends on the overall concentration of whatever product you use. Products containing less than 0.2% are supposedly considered safe. This product has 1g/L which is about 0.1 per 100ml (0.2 in the entire 200ml bottle) meaning you would get even less per application (like 0.02-0.05g/ml) which is 20-50ml. Using as recommended should be fine, but considering cats in general are quite sensitive with their metabolism you should be mindful and watch your cat during and after treatment for some time.

However due to the sensitive nature of the cat, the manufacturer still must leave a caution on their product and you as the owner have a responsibility to watch for signs of reaction and toxicity as well as provide urgent veterinary care in the chance they do show signs as toxicity should be taken very seriously. Your cat may be fine one minute but go down hill very rapidly. Watch for the following signs during and after treatment: GI signs (e.g., hypersalivation, vomiting, nausea), neurologic signs (e.g., disorientation, weakness, hyperexcitability, tremors, seizures) and respiratory signs (e.g., tachypnea -rapid and shallow breathing, dyspnea- shortness of breath).

Never exceed recommended amount on the bottle and I recommend starting small and working your way up if you find you need more than 20ml but no more than 50ml per application (manufacture recommends two lathers so two applications per bath.) I find with my cat who is a longhaired breed, needs a little more than 20ml to really get in there and get coverage. If you can use less but get good coverage than always use less with cats.

With that being said because of the low level concentration of pyrethins in the product it should be considered safe but this doesn't mean your cat can metabolise it so the chances of the cat having a reaction of some kind might still occur but you should be fine as long as you be cautious. Its a benefit vs the risk situation. Fleas can do a lot of damage and for serious infestations this is a great option for fast relief. You can also make use of the knock-down products, the pill which you give your cat and it kills fleas who feed quite rapidly but I do not recommend using multiple flea products in one sitting, so give it some time inbetween and work on your environment, clean those beds and spray your cat trees, vacuum everything and if its a multiple pet household then treat all of them.

It worked! Fairly painlessly, too – My (18 year old) cat has never been bothered by fleas before, but the spot on treatments we have always used are not working any more. Based on reviews, I bought Rufus & Coco Flea Flee from Woolies. It was my cat's first ever bath! The shampoo smells mild and pleasant and doesn't lather up much, but spreads well. No fleas came off until I rinsed,… Read more

but then I saw plenty of them wash away. The next morning I found a flea where he had been sleeping and it was half dead, so the shampoo was still working, and his fur is so soft and fluffy! Just like a kitten's. He seems comfortable in his skin so the shampoo wasn't drying or irritating, either. However, three days later and the fleas are coming back, so we'll have to try something else. This shampoo is lovely, easy to use, inoffensive to my cat, and it IS effective, but it's not a long term fix, at least, not for us, as I can't see my cat coping with a bath every week. But if you want to get rid of fleas quickly without poisoning your cat, I can recommend this shampoo.

Not bad once you figure it out – I wrote a question here before about use, but amending it due to experience :). At first it looked like the wash didnt work, but this products more effective if youre pet gets and keeps an even lather on their full body for a few minutes (2 minutes minimum 5 minutes maximum) before rinsing off (but try to avoid them licking it off because whilst… Read more

non toxic it can make their tummy a little queezy). My oldest cat is 15 and my youngest is 6 months and neither had any issues, though my runty cat got a bit intoxicated by it on first use because i was over zealous with the amount i put on. dont over do it. pat shampoo away from eyes to avoid eye contact andAs long as you have a decent lather it will work well :) Lastly i find this works best as a combo treatment. Animal safe lavender or teatree spray for bedding and cloth areas after their bath helps keep fleas at bay and you should wash your pets a minimum of once every 2 weeks if they arent the extra dirty kind of pet :) If this is a temporary thing (once off for relief) i found that my cats fealt best the day after treatment. Some fleas will die immediately, most will die during the stay on lather, the rest will avoid your pet a few days after the bath due to the smell (which smells nice for humans and is alright for the cats). My cats smell lovely afterwards and look shiny :) You should wait at least 4-7 days before adding any topicals on though so as not to increase your pets chance of sensitivity or reaction.

Absolutely avoid - allergic reaction in my dog – I washed my dog with this “Flea Free” shampoo after finding a flea on her. I followed the directions to the letter, applying from the neck down, and rinsing well, however within an hour she developed a swollen face and puffy eyes. One of the ingredients is chrysanthemum which is toxic to dogs. I won’t be purchasing from this brand again as there… Read more

Does the job – I used this for my cat who has flea bite allergy and was going mad itching even though I couldn't see fleas on her. She stopped tearing her fur out immediately after bathing with this product. I have a calm, happy kitty! Show details
