Gidday Bill. I've got several batteries and have tried them all. After reading some of the comments on this product, I must have got the good one as when it was going, it was great. If I grab the blade and give it a quick spin with my hand and hit the button at the right time it goes but I don't think hands and spinning disks are a good combination.

Update. Put a new 5ah battery in and it works. Figure that out

I bought my Ryobi cordless Angle Grinder this week, charged the battery and inserted it correctly, switched it on to check and it started up, but when i switched it on again later to actually use it.... nothing happened!? We live 400km from the nearest Ryobi dealer..... what do I do? Is there anything else I can check or troubleshoot?

My Ryobi Brushless Grinder (battery) has ran good for several months. But today it will start for 2 seconds and then stops. I've tried both my batteries and proven they're working in other tools. So this is even before I get to the metal to cut. Can anyone help? It's quite new.

My CAG1800 worked great for a few years then suddenly would only work slowly. It would seem to get quite hot with very little load. I bought a new one 5 years ago. Today i decided to investigate the old one and found that one of the brush holders& brush lead were slightly charred and the spring was without tension and corroded. The plastic surrounding the brush holder was heat damaged as well. The cause seems to be the air intake to cool the motor sucks ground steel directly into the brush assembly where it magnetises and sticks to the stator shell clogging around the commutator and causing a high resistance path to the brush. I have managed to remove approximately150 grams of magnetised steel dust from around the commutator/ brushes.I now need a new spring to get the unit working again

I have just bought a brushless ryobi +1 grinder because my older brushed grinder has worn out but this brushless grinder cuts out when using and I was only cutting 3 mm aluminium sheet which is soft without pressure. I took the unit back and switched it over with a replacement but it is the same and this unit is bigger than my old one. It is also very clunky in the gears is this normal for the brushless

How do I get a 2mm thick cutting disk to stop slipping? The supplied 6mm disk is just fine.

Recently purchased (May 2018) cordless angle grinder. Keeps stopping when using. Press the "run" button and it immediately restarts. Annoying that it does this. Should it??

Michelle Young

I think that is its protection. I did it couple times when i was leaning too hard on it (my ryobi drill does the same when Im pushing too hard wirh a blunt drill bit)

The only time it has happened to me is when I’ve gone to hard other than that no other problems.

Why does my Ryobi cordless 4 1/2" angle grinder keep shutting down in the middle of a cutting job with a full battery?

Midnight

What are you cutting? What discs are you using? (The correct choice of disc makes a big difference). Are you applying too much pressure? I found that I could easily cut 2” x 1” box steel and 1/2” fibreglass with 2mm cutting discs. Losing patience and pushing your grinder too hard will cause it to jam and cut out. If you continue to experience problems, I would suggest you ring your Ryobi customer service line. I have found them to be very obliging. Good luck.

Probably either of two reasons. The thermal cut-out, designed to prevent the motor burning out when it gets too hot. Or the machine is bogging because it is struggling to do the task. A lighter touch, smaller disc or even one of the larger batteries might help, Don't expect this battery grinder to perform like a cored one, It won't. Mine struggles too.

I have to cutout 150 letter boxes that are built into brick walls. I bought a Ryobi 115 cordless angle grinder but after reading some comments not sure if I made the right choice.

Damien

That's a lot of letter boxes! Not exactly clear of the task. Is it cutting cavities in the brickwork to insert letter boxes or cutting out existing ones? If they are the cast iron type you may want to ring a bricklayer as they probably know all about them. If I had to cut through heaps of them I'd probably go a 9 inch corded grinder. They're around $200. You may still need a smaller grinder to get into smaller areas though. The battery life for large tasks isn't great for the one+ grinders. Having said that, you may only need a couple of small cuts and be able to knock them out from behind. A brikies your best bet though.

Ryobi replaced my grinder and the battery and to date it is working as expected...I do a lot of grinding and shaping on sandstone...I believe there must of been a problem on the thermal cut out on my previous angle grinder that was allowing the battery to overheat and melt the plastic...good luck with those letterbox cutouts....

Yes the ryobi brushless does not like tired batteries. My one has given me a few starting issues but mostly battery related. I did pull it apart and gently blew the dust out of the switch assembly and motor and this got it going again when it was not a battery problem. Electrical tracking likely cause.
