Buyers remorse – Used it once and went perfect. Tried a second time and was so damn hard to start. Once it was running I had to go inside and when I returned I couldn't restart it at all. Went to Bunnings to buy the easy start gadget. $69 for the easy start+ $79 for cheapest battery and charger! I believe this is their plan all along...sell dodgy starters so you… Read more

have to upgrade to a battery pack to start it. Given the other reviews on here I guess I'll just wait till it completely dies in a few months. Will never buy this brand again. Should have stuck to Stihl :-(

Safety feature cut off is not reliable – Be very careful the cutting does not cease on releasing the trigger as required. It's only 18mths old. Spend four days in hospital and nobody from bunnings nor ryobi wants to advise others their maybe an issue with the safety cut off. Prior to this I have hadn't problems with startup of the trimmer. Highly disappointed  Show details

Disappointing!!! – Not sure about date purchased but is less than 2 years old and not used as much as it should have been. Up until recently, the few times it was used I had no problems, but 2 weeks ago it played up and became hard to start, ran rough and then eventually, wouldn't start at all. I was going to take it back to Bunnings but, although I could find all… Read more

of the paper work that came with the H.T. no receipt, damn! In need of a H.T. I started to explore why there was no start, discovered no spark, long story short, it was a manufacturing fault.

I finally discovered that the lead to the kill switch (in the handle) had not been fitted correctly through the guides and was both kinked and crushed badly at a flex point, the vibration of the H.T. whilst working caused the inner wire casing to crack at the kink and then an intermittent short with the exterior earth wire caused the rough running until the 2 wires eventually all but fused together causing it to stop altogether.

Got it sorted, I thought, but has stopped again today, about to start chasing the problem again, will probably need to replace the kill switch lead with better cable and fit it through the handle better.

I hope that the model that has replaced this one has been put together with better quality assurance as I wouldn't mind betting that the other reviewers who had starting problems also had a poor quality fitment of the same wires.

Haven't bothered contacting Ryobi (Techtronic Industries Aust) as I have had the machine apart and can't prove exactly when I purchased it, but I do know it was made in 2015. I also have noted that unlike some other power tool manufacturers, TTI don't seem to monitor this site to check out their reviews to see if they can improve their service, so probably don't really care if their products are working well or not.

I have given this machine 2 stars as, when it works it is good, but when it isn't, it sucks!

On the strength of this product alone I will not be purchasing another product with the Ryobi name on it or for that matter any of the other products that Techtronic Industries (Aust) distributes here. ( worth a look on Google)

Short life span – Purchased from Bunnings about 18 months ago, this unit was used for domestic hedges. It lasted less than a year. Drive cog sheared. Used less than 10 times. I found it sometimes difficult to start, and on occasions very temperamental. Won't buy again. The old adage ..... get what you pay for.  Show details

Used it 4 times, now it won't start – Loved this product when I first purchased it from Bunnings. I have been meticulous in storing it correctly and ensuring the mix of petrol & lubricant are correct, however no matter what I do now it will not start. Worked perfectly the four times I used it on our hedge out front, however it will not start at all now. all the continuous pull… Read more

starter is doing now is giving me a sore shoulder and increasing my swearing ability.

Going to try my luck returning it...

Changed my life – Can you believe I used to stand out there with hand operated hedge trimmers? What used to take me hours took me just minutes this afternoon. My new Ryobi cut the hedge like a hot knife through butter. I am happy with this purchase. Waiting to see how long it lasts.

Just Too Hard To Start – I have the RHT2660RN from Bunnings. Basically it's the same as this. It's so hard to start, even after following the instructions step by step. I have a lot of petrol power tools, even my trimmer from Aldi starts easier than this. I regret buying it and will probably return it for a Makita one. The chainsaw I got by Makita starts second pull even after not being used for months.

Excellent performance – My back yard has two rows of Lilly Pillies around 4.5m tall flanking the length of the fence line around 18m deep. This trimmer worked an absolute treat but did feel quite heavy towards the end as my arms got tired (I'm a pretty fit 36-yo but not tall). This is to be expected but something worth considering. I am very pleased with my purchase and to have added this to my two-stroke Ryobi collection. Powerful, easy to use A bit heavy

Powerful – I only got it today but I did all the hedges in the back garden plus a hedge out the front. I'm 54 years old so the 5.5kg unit is a bit heavy but I managed it. It is very powerful though and has a 600mm blade with 28mm cut capacity. I needed it too as the wood at the top of the Xmas bushes was about one inch thick and my electric trimmer with… Read more

a 400mm blade couldn't cut it.

I saw other units at Bunnings including a $550 Japanese one that they claimed was of commercial quality but this Ryobi had obviously high chrome cutters and they were very heavy duty. It also has a commercial grade magnesium gearbox.

It also has a sweet sounding motor and starts very easily (easier than my Homelite Blower).

It also has a 180 degree rotating handle.

Overall very impressed. Heavy duty high grade blades, Powerfull sweet sounding motor, easy to start
