Good orbital cheap sander – Good little orbital sander. I’m not replacing it with a Ryobi but got 12 years out of it nonetheless. It had some pretty hard work in that time on fiberglass, plywood and metal enamel. Finally gave up the ghost. Just a stripped thread. Probably my fault but I’m replacing in with a makita because the Ryobi came loose and it really shouldn’t have. Show details

Excellent Sander – I bought this Ryobi Sander to refurbish my old furniture and it did a really good job. I was using paint stripper before and found it time consuming and very messy. So far, I have refubished 7 of my furniture and this Ryobi Sander has certainly paid itself off. I didn't need to buy new furniture. Have attached 2 photos of before and after to give you an idea. Show details

Dust does not collect after the first few hours – My orbital sander is brilliant but after the first few hours of work it will not catch any dust at all, very confused as I emptied the container and air cleaned with a pressure hose on the filter. Other than that it is brilliant, oh btw put a on off marking on the sander as I keep forgetting which way is on or off. Why is the dust collector not working because if it was I would give it five ( 5) stars Show details

Ryobi 300w Random Orbital Sander ROS300-S – The Ryobi ROS300-A has been replaced with the Ryobi ROS300-S. And I'm happy to report it's a quality product. I needed a variable-speed orbital disc sander to prevent the over-heating and melting of oil-based paint topcoats on my wood working projects. Excess friction generates heat, resulting in a sticky, blotchy debacle. Other restrictive… Read more

sanders just weren't delivering because there was no flexibility to adjust the output, not to mention the surface of the sanding pad on this unit is actually flat, so you won't sand over the edges of your work to reveal the undercoat while the middle sections have yet to be adequately sanded - which i suspect is the problem with foam or softish material used for the bases - they lose their shape. Literally no extraneous downward pressure was required to achieve a properly levelled surface. The Ryobi is a Dream to use. She purrs and hums ever so seductively.

I sanded my oil based project down with the lowest setting (1) and let the sanding discs do the job - minimal heat production and perfectly even sanding across the surface area. I have no doubt this Ryobi will perform just as well on bare wood. The dust catcher works beautifully.

Do yourself a favour, buy this and the premium Diablo sanding discs. you won't regret it.

Excellent sander – Just what I need for the middle finishing between belt an fine orbital sanding. The variable speed is excellent - its for this feature that I chose this over the ONE+ random orbital, which is also $20 more. I feel like sanders can burn through the batteries needlessly when power is easily accessible anyway (plus they're heavier AND the batteries… Read more

don't need the banging around!), so cabled is fine for me. The unit has a great tight feel, like most Ryobi products. The Cyclonic dust box is brilliant, collects just about everything! Comes with a great carry bag, and huge assortment of sanding pads, and it doesn't get any simpler with the quick fix hook & loop pad base. And with a 4 year warranty when u register online, there's really nothing more to say. Excellent in every way!

Product Review says this is discontinued, but I bought at the end of Jan 2018. Seemed to but plentifully stocked so I'm not sure if this is accurate.

Best sander for the beginner/home handywoman – This was purchased as a gift from my son. I love my sander although had a little trouble reattaching the sand paper after multiple uses. Very easy to use. I also had trouble getting covered in dust but being a mere woman I was probably not following correct instructions. Would definitely replace with the same if I had to replace.  Show details

Great for the low price – I've used mostly bosh when sanding but the missus put me on a budget and brought this little fire cracker, does a quality job and has 6 levels of speed so good for any job I suppose. Comes with a few discs and a carry bag/ lunch box. Has a cyclone action filter system, still don't know what I think of it def recommend a vacuum but will do the job with the cyclone action box.  Show details

Cheap as chips-gets the job done – First up, there are already four reviews for the previous version, ROS300A. Mine is a 300A, basically the same. Second, I couldn't find either version in the RYOBI Australia website. What does that tell you? I'm basically a rough hack DIY'er. Most of my skill lies in being able to hide the mistakes I made building something in the first place.… Read more

And that typically involves a significant amount of sanding. I have, for the last 20 years or so, been using a 1/3 sheet sander. It is a pain in the backside to buy sheets then cut them down, and stupidly expensive to buy the pre cut version. After finally finishing the last packet of sheets in a multi-buy packet, I called quits on faffing about with this method.

What a revolution this little sander is. I checked out a bunch on the web, read heaps of reviews, and in the end, I went with a low cost/ low risk option. You can pay more and get less features than this. Variable speed, power on light, nice little carry bag and some bonus (low quality-comparatively speaking) sanding discs. Ready for business right out of the pack. Two year warranty, can't go wrong there. It does have a dust collection container fitted, a bit fiddly to assemble, but I don't rely on these as a 100% dust proof system. Make sure you wear a respirator, and anyone else working in the area and clean up.

I also bought a stack of Flexovit replacement pads, these last a fair bit longer than the originals, noting none last a particularly long time. As long as you keep your eye on how well the work is being sanded and change the discs as required, this little sander will go for another 20 years.

Great product for a very fair price! – Just keep in mind to tighten the four sanding pad bolts occasionally in which I have done prior to initial use to prevent them from coming off where it is known to be the issue with this orbital sander, however having said that, this product performs very well apart from the 10 sanding pads that came with it upon purchase which I believe they are… Read more

just a sample or freebies pad from RYOBI because they are not reusable ( not reusable because it cannot be reattached as you remove it during pad swap )

Otherwise a great product choice as an alternative to expensive brands. It is lightweight and I really like the speed control feature and the dust catcher, it works and traps dust really well as long as the filter sits properly with the catcher when refitting.

Overall, I would say an excellent product and does the job very well, as long as good choice of sanding pad is used.. I use BOSCH sanding pad with this and great and fast result is always obtained.

Reliability wise... I think this will do good too as I only had this for less than a month but I like it already.

Dissapointed with the Ryobi ROS300S – Does a great job on sanding. But the dust is driving me mad. I can't stop coughing. And I do not have allergies normally but this is dreadful. We are sanding our kitchen drawers and cupboards down after completely stripping them free of 6 coats of paint. Drove all the way to Perth (100k's) especially to buy something that would do the job dust… Read more

free. Our plainer has a bag and that does not let out as much dust as this. The dust comes out through the holes on the sides. Very disappointed. Had to move indoors as raining outside and that is really bad everything under verandah now coated with thick dust.

Less than OK – Mine's an ROS300 so probably a superseded model but looks to have the same specs etc as the current model. This machine does have a lot of good points - Random and Orbital motion Easy and quick to fit sanding discs Relatively cheap (especially if a runout model) Dust collection Ergonomic Easy to use controls Pretty quiet Works very… Read more

well and can remove a fair bit of material

I've used 2 grades of sanding disc (80 and 180 grit) with mine. With both not all the dust is captured. If I was sanding indoors I wouldn't be happy as I'd need to sweep or vacuum the dust up. There's more dust with the 80 grit.

I use it outdoors so other than breathing the dust in it's not a big deal.

What is a big deal is that after only about 30 minutes use, 2 of the screws (on the underside of the machine) that hold the base plate in place have unscrewed and gone AWOL.

Upon reporting this to Bunnings they asked me if I thought that vibration caused the screws to dislodge! lol

One of the inherent movements of the machine is vibration so if that's what caused it to fail then this isn't a good product.

Maybe I got a lemon?

Before the screws dislodged it worked ok (apart from not capturing a fair amount of dust).

Would I buy again.........no.

Awesome Ryobi ROS300-S Orbital Sander – My new ryobi ros300 is actually coded ros300-s on the box (bunnings qld - noosaville) and is much better than i was expecting.....Lightweight (1.62kg) compared to others, (2.0 -3.2kgs) of similar size, i find this palm style design perfect to hold in one hand and reach across wall surfaces safely whilst up a ladder - it is easy to vary the knurled… Read more

dial speed control by my thumb, and the slider switch 'on' button is within easy reach of a finger on the right hand side or thumb 'off' on the left hand side. (right handed) the sander action is vibration as an ordinary sander does across the surface, but this one also slowly rotates the vibrating disc giving greater smoothing and moving the dust around under the disk so it can come up through small holes in the disc and base, into a dust catcher. (and that's the best part for me - the dust is caught cleanly).....Incidently, the discs just slap on to the underside of the sander base, like velcro or hook and catch...This makes it quick and easy to get going and/or change over different grades or coarseness of sanding discs. Quick and easy slap on (velcro style) and go sanding - no fussing about cutting sheets to fit and clamp around the vibrator pad. The vibrating/ slowly turning disc, creates a very comprehensive and even surface result. I am so impressed that the dust is conveniently collected by a clever vacuum cleaner effect into a filtered catcher ( located on the rear of the unit) .....So no mask required ....Meaning no constant vacuuming up of dust as you go either, and no old paint dust or sawdust all over the furniture.....Therefore no drop sheets are required to cover over everything....And there's plenty of grunt if you need it for the tuff stuff (300watt motor). Finally it is reasonably quiet...And it was affordable at around $79 from bunnings noosaville qld 16/02/15 ...Which seems about half price or less than others i compared on the internet before we bought. Very impressed! :)
