Disappointing!! – Bought this blue ray player with my new TV last year. It has sat in the same spot & played a DVD maybe once a week and after only 18 months it has just stopped working. Won't load a disk. Even tried cleaning the laser and no difference. So disappointing, seeing as the cheap Kmart DVD player in the kids toy room gets a hammering and still works after more that 2 years! Do t waste your money & I won't buy another samsung product again!
A bad start that only gets worse – Replacing a DVD player can be easy & cheap but we wanted to move into online material as well & thought this offered all we needed. Theoretically it does; the features are there. But successfully accessing it all is an absolute headache, & Samsung support was useless. Wifi internet connection regularly drops out. Samsung blame my WIFI modem (which cost more than their DVD Player). However none of our other tablet/kindle/phone devices had any problems whatsoever for a range of up to 30 meters. Samsung suggested I move the modem closer to the Player. Note, the player & modem are already in the same room no more than 5 meters from each other. I gave up on support when they suggested I cable the two together. That's not what I call a WIFI product. My personal opinion is the Samsung aerial is not up to it.
Given we decided to just live with the drop outs, next problem is that with every drop out, I would have to go through the connection setup process including inputting password every time. This is maddening. I'm using arrow keys on a remote control to select letters & numbers in a non- QWERT style menu. Add to this laborious process the fact that the Player processing speed is obviously limited and it has to think a bit about every selection made. Ugh! We rarely accessed their online features. Too slow & too many half finished movies/programs it chucked us out of.
We've lived with this player for about a year now. It's one redeeming grace has been a functioning Blu-Ray/DVD Player. That's not rocket science these days. Well last week that died. It won't read any of our discs. And I've had it.
And I will not be buying Samsung again. Features (if they worked!) Features didn't work. Slow processing speed. Poor WIFI reception. Unhelpful Support. Short lived disc reader.
This bluray player is certainly worth avoiding – I am very angry because I bought a Samsung BD-E5900 3D Bluray Player about 4 months ago but it never worked at all so I haven't been able to use it, so I had to return it, which meant I was stuck without one while I went away on business somewhere. Terrible design, Very expensive and bad service from Samsung
Average – I got one of these with my TV on special offer. I had trouble setting it up- testing systematically with all audio settings. For some reason it would not play in surround sound through my NAD amp. It forced everything to stereo with every setting. I eventually took it out of my system and took it back to the shop. They tried to replicate my system setup and it played fine in the shop so I could not return it. On reconnecting it into my system it then worked and now plays in surround sound. I have no idea why this would be. Incidentally my DVD player and media players both do Dolby digital and DTS etc with no trouble and were easy to set up by comparison.
The Blu-Ray picture is good - clarity and 3D is good although I did see one or two spots of jerkiness while playing Captain America 3D in 2D mode. Connectivity at the rear is as basic as it gets - HDMI, Digital Coax out and RJ45 network. Nothing else. Don't buy one of these if you plan to use it in stereo or need separate analog audio\video outputs. I would not be able to connect this machine into my fathers stereo system to watch BDs in Stereo.
Sound quality is not great. Both my old 10 year old Pioneer DVD player and my WD TV Live Hub run rings around it for sound quality which is disappointing since Blu-Rays are supposed to be superior. Sub and surround levels are different from the other two devices on the amp. Sound quality is also not as clear and detailed as the other devices. Nice HD pcture Setup not easy on older system, Sound quality not great, no flexibility with connections
