Samsung BD-H8XXX Series Questions & Answers
VerifiedWhy does the EPG sometimes fail randomly? Records 1:01min then stops. Other times it records fine. It's hit and miss. Why is this happening and how do I stop it. VERY ANNOYING!
Hey Nick, this is issue does seem like a tricky one. I would suggest getting your unit looked at by one of our Authorized Service Centres. To do so please visit external link to locate your nearest Service centre.
This may need a technician to advise or repair so best to get them to see this issue.

When I watch IVIEW (channel 2) using link in Samsung apps, every 5 minutes the screen goes black but the sound continues. If I push the play button on the remote, picture returns for another 5 minutes.
Hey vardonp60, does this issue still occur?

I have recently found that my BD-H8500 Netflix app will no longer load. The app shows a message “Netflix encountered an error. Attempting to determine problem.” This is followed by a menu with three options. Try again, More Details and Exit. The more details option allows you to check the network, this shows everything is ok. Also displays network information and device information.
Has anyone seen this message is this device still supported. Is there a fix
Thanks
Does this blue Ray model have the capacity to overwrite the region of a DVD? If so, does it do this automatically or is it a manual setup?
Unfortunately not your stuck with the region
When trying to watch a recorded HD from TV it shows how long the recording was but when clicking on it the TV screen goes black for a couple of seconds and then goes onto the next recorded show. Happens on different TV channels and doesnt happen all the time. Do not have too much recorded stuff on my recorder and does not happen all the time tho it is very frustrating Polly
That usually happens when the recorder doesn't know what i is doing. This is a problem that comes inherent with the machine, another thing Samsung are aware of but can't?? fix.
Hi Polly, to clarify, are you unable to watch the recorded content? Does this only happen on specific recordings you have made?

On recorded and there is no specific reason Different channels and times and length of recording. I have at other times recorded e.g. 2hs15mins and all i get is say 1min 6secs. siiiiiiiigh Not Good Polly
Would you be able to please check the default recording device and available storage size in storage device for recording, Polly? " At least 100 MB of free space is required for recording. " Recording will stop if the storage's free space becomes less than 50 MB

Data is being stored in Blu-ray only. Have checked the manual and cannot find how to save on either DVD or USB. Can you tell me what page i can find this in the manual.

HI How did you set the samsung to tape the programs for longer? my daughter has just purchased this pvr
[weblink removed]
I just end up recording the show after it as well. But I found if you record 3 shows in a row on the same channel, the second one does not record correctly.
thanks Tam! And I did find the extender timer as per last comment posted.
Hi,
Looking at upgrading our Samsung Blu Ray. The model we have (twin tuner, 500GB storage) has given us more grief than we would like. It won't play blu ray's anymore, for no reason, we do updates on it regularly and nothing appears to change. The recording capacity is a little poor too. So we're not sure if we should upgrade to this latest Samsung Model BD-H8500A...Can anyone offer some advice about if this latest model is worth while or should we change brands (we have lots of other Samsung products and are really happy with all of them!!)
Thanks,
Thea
I wouldn't touch another Samsung with a barge pole.
Hi Thea. If you take my advice you will CHANGE BRANDS!! We bought a Samsung BD8500 just a few weeks ago and have found it to be hopeless. I have just written a review which you might like to read, to understand the problems we have encountered. I just wish we had read some reviews before we went out and wasted our money on this. We were replacing a Topfield which was great, but unfortunately they are now out of business.
how do you manually extend recording time for Samsung BD-H8500? I keep missing the last minutes of some shows, I would like to add an extra 10 minutes as some times the free to air stations over run their finish time.
also is there some way to program the volume control on the remote so that it alters the audio output in the MDHI cable so that the volume of my older Panasonic Plasma TV volume will alter
Hi Muddie. I know this is easily done, but my instructions may be slightly off as I don't have this machine anymore. There are instruction manual available on-line. But from recollection, I believe you go into MENU, then find Schedule Manager > Schedule Recordings (far right icon). Once in there, you can slide down to the start and finish times in the preset times and use the remote numbers to enter new times.
Can't help you with part two of your question as I had a Samsung TV, so it naturally all worked on one remote. Sometime competitors won't allow you to set up this way, that said, my latest Panasonic HDD gave me specific codes to enter so that the volume control on the remote worked for the TV.
Thank you Aaron, I have returned this product to Harvey Norman as further problems arose and now have a Panasonic which is a lot easer to use
