Samsung DVD-R155

Terrible – Terrible machine, I would advise everyone against purchasing it. When I rang Samsung to complain of my problems, they first tried to pass the buck to the online retailer. Several calls later, they agreed to replace the first machine that I could not even get working with my tv. Second machine in hand, more problems. When I rang back to describe my… Read more
ongoing freezing problems, inability to use longer recording modes, etc, they demanded that I try it on a range of appliances not just my tv (implying that their tv was the problem!). They regarded the freezing as merely reflecting power voltage variations in my area, not a problem of their machine. Eventually they (Samsung) rang down the clock to the warranty expiration period, and I still have the turkey.
Samsung make good televisions, but I'd stay away from their DVD and HDD recorders for the time being. - Nothing at all - Freezes regularly, requiring the power cord to be removed
- Has an analogue tuner, of poor quality that nothing is recordable (even in the middle of canberra, a flat town with good reception)
- Longer record modes EP, etc don't work properly. Only the SP and LP modes work, limiting continuing recording to about 4 hours.
- Very slow when it does decide to work
- Many issues in the machine connecting to my Samsung TV through the HDMI, which was only resolved with a new machine. Even then, it still freezes and "loses" the tv.
OK – Jury out until Samsung tries to fix problem. Its out of warranty and if it costs a lot to fix then I will definately give a poor rating. Looks Good Have only used it infrequently. Today after using it I turned it off. Now I cannot turn it on manually or with remote
Terrible – Our dvd recorder worked for approximately 10 months before the waterfall of problems began to hit us. Everything from S-Video connections leaving a flickering image to being totally unable to use any recorded media as the dvd recorder will no longer recognise it. Samsung have been a nightmare to deal with and are completely unwilling to offer any… Read more
sort of service or support beyond the warranty period even though these issues were flagged and supposedly repaired under warranty. After having bought this Samsung product and dealt with their customer service I highly recommend never purchasing a Samsung product, or at least purchasing an extended warranty. Looks great. Constant media recognition issues, s-video connection faulty, loud grinding noises.
OK – I don't have a lot of good to say about this item. Three months of regular use caused it to start failing, it's not made to last that's for sure. It looks sleek, it's easy to use everything today is made to break
Terrible – Overall, the jury is still out. Whilst recorded quality is good, when the unit works, I always feel that something is going to go wrong - in other words, the unit inspires no confidence whatsoever. Very little. After three months, had to go in for service. Recorded sound and vision were out of sync. After an eternity in for service, sync… Read more
problems were resolved. However, on/off on remote do not work. I can switch the unit on by pressing open/close on the remote.
Good – This machine is really easy to use - almost like a VCR. It practically sets itself up and the rest is easy to work out. For under $200 it's a bargain. Easy to use, plug & play machine. Display could be brighter.
