Terrible – Samsung make great televisions, but their dvd recorders are rubbish. I have already had this unit repaired twice and still it does not work as it should. I would recommend you try another brand - I'm going to. Picture quality is very good. Terrible disk navigation. Once you have started to watch a recorded program, if you stop or pause it longer… Read more
than 10 minutes you can't go back to where you last watched. You have to watch from the beginning. I have also had problems with it not recognising disks, and the marker option does not work. The display is very dim making it hard to see unless it is totally dark, and it just seems to be more complicated than it should be for simple operations.
Terrible – I would steer well clear of any Samsung video product, over the years they just haven't been reliable. Their early model VCRs were very badly engineered - power supplies within them would blow up or die as a result of a surge (it was discovered that the components in these supplies were drastically underrated). have improved since those days, and the picture quality of those is quite good, I would not consider any DVD or video recording/playback devices from Samsung or LG - just unreliable and expensive to repair in the long term, with high failure rates. Looks nice, it's black, has a hard drive so you can transfer the recorded content from it to a DVD. Does not play DivX 7 or later version encoded video properly, if at all. MP3s skip occasionally as well (cheap supermarket DVD players can play MP3 perfectly - this cannot). No inbuilt tuner that I can see, insufficient outputs/inputs. S-video is poor on LCD TV; grainy with loss of definition (you would expect that sort of picture quality with RCA cable, not 5-pin S-video or component DVD). Poor progressive scan capability. Occasionally will not read discs - reload, the discs work perfectly, flimsy disc tray, likely to break easily with minimal pressure. Costly to fix without an extended warranty.
