Nearly the best Tablet – My tablet has been dropped and shattered before. It has a little bit of colour damage and it is a little bit slow. Still, it was worth buying it! I still say it was a really good tablet. Things I do on it are: - Games - Movies
Common Black screen problem after 2 years, never been dropped, always had Otterbox protection, as ne – as never ever been dropped. Has always had an Otterbox case. 6 months ago the screen went black. I did the youtube fix (detaching the screen cable) this worked for a while. But when tablet is turned off the black screen problem appears again. The screen now won't come on at all. I've researched all over the web, this is a COMMON FAULT!!! I… Read more
will never ever buy a SAMSUNG product again. I just bought a Huawei Mate 10 phone, I no longer trust SAMSUNG!
My tablet is in immaculate condition, and screen just stops working, this is pathetic, only 2 years old!!
Great device ,ahead of its time with great display ,let down by hardware failure – Bought this in 2014 as a study tool (pdfs, ebooks etc) and possible work tool ( not used as corporate IT nervous about Android devices on the network. Great unit with a great display , played with the S - Pen for a while but didn't use its functionality. Never rooted it but it started to do random reboots ,very annoying. Sold for parts on ebay. Lesson learnt will not spend $600+ on a tablet device again. Show details
Works well. But lags a bit – It is a decent tablet. Lags quite a bit, after a year of use. Can use other launchers on the tablet such as nova. the camera is great. the stylus pen works great for drawing and other functions. the volume is very loud. Charging is okay for a tablet. But it is not very fast. Battery drains quite fast too. Otherwise it is a decent tablet. Show details
A very good device for study and work but not without shortfalls or above critiques – I have been using Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition 16GB 4G version since Feb 2015. I must say it is a device worth buying for my study and work. I got it second hand from a generous gentleman. The original Samsung apps such as SNote, SPlanner and Scrapbook are not that good for productivity but the device gives me a good hardware base to use other… Read more
third parties’ productivity apps like Squid (Papyrus), SmartNote, Camscanner, ACalendar, BugMe and Bluemail alike effectively and efficiently. After the latest upgrade to Lollipop, the multiscreen functions work even better and it is very versatile on the operation interface. I love it even more now. The original launcher of Samsung is not great and with limitations. Therefore, I use Nova Launcher instead and that works beautifully. The device has a large battery but it does not last the whole 8 hours of productivity work. Turn on the airplane mode and use 2x Battery apps will get you through the day. I think WiFi is the killer.
The main shortcomings of this device are 1) The sound quality is flimsy, not sufficiently loud and deprived of bass. Hardly compared to an iPad. Adequate for study and work but not for gaming and music. 2) Can only use split screen for a handful of specified apps which is a pity unless rooting the device. Love to have WPS office, Amazon Kindle apps on the split screen list but cannot. 3) Battery does take long to charge even using Samsung’s cable and charger. But I accidentally discovered that if using a 4 mm cable instead of its original 3 mm cable, the device charges faster. 4) Internal storage is limited. I need a micro SD card to store all the apps. With this, I still only have 1 GB left in the internal memory. By the way, I don’t have any bulky media files. It is just documents, photos and ebooks. 5) Too many Samsung bloatwares. Without them, there will be more internal storage.
My conclusion is to use this device as the base and explore some third parties’ apps to improve the functionality, operation and productivity. Ensure you do some research in the special features and functions of this device. My impression is people cannot make a good use of it because they don’t utilize the device to its max potential. If you do research on its functions, I would say you will not regret buying it. But don’t pay full price. The device, for its intelligence and high specifications, probably really costs a substantial sum of money to build and consequently, makes a high price tag but it does hurt my pocket if buying new. Hopefully, there will be an upgrade in 18 months’ time to Marshmallow then the micro SD card can be used as internal storage.
Honest and Brutal review – Firstly, a little introduction. This review is coming from someone who owns Galaxy s2. Galaxy note 2, Galaxy note 10.1 and two Galaxy note 10.1 (2014 edition) one for my self and another for spouse which we sold in a month but i choose to keep mine and that turned out to be a bad decision. Now are you looking for a used affordable tabby? Don't… Read more
buy this one and look else where. Besides equipped with one the best IPS screen panel and an awesome S-Pen there are a list of issues associated with its performance overall. Since I am a huge fan of Pen function, I use it all the time for filling up pdf forms, timesheets, drawing and writing notes but I noticed Samsung to be quite inconsistent in focusing on other features. As a result, most Samsung products have a list complaints all over the internet.
The Good.
1) Screen us just fine and does the job. Pixels aren't that great but you won't be disappointed if spending $250 to $300 on this.
2) S-Pen has always been useful for many and there are many great applications from coloring books to awesome Pdf editors.
3) it is quick and doesn't slow down performance wise.
The Bad
1) Takes more than 8 hours to fully charge
2) Screen on time that you should expect from a full charge is around 4-5hrs which in my opinion is extremely disappointing and believe me you don't want to see that battery drop while doing something important or watching a movie.
3) Poor stand-by time. Tablet will still consume battery while you are not using it and here we are bot talking about 2% drop in 6 hours. Battery power declines significantly anywhere between 3 to 5%.
4) Stereo speakers are loud but the sound they produce is thin and lack Bass.
5) Samsung User interface is just a pain to use. Please install a launcher for ease.
6) Original charger is of poor quality and the charging cord has a short life.
7) The device is loaded with Samsung's bloatware and you will have to organise your apps really good or you will end up looking for the installed apps for minutes.
8) The device heats up from the rear top right hand side and performance gets worse.
Verdict
Their are a number of bad points than the good one. If you are in market for an android tablet please look else where.
Love it! – Purchased at the start of April 2014 to replace my original ipad1. Much better in every way to the old ipad. I was sick of using itunes for everything thats why i went with andriod. Also bought a Samsung All Share device which allows me to connect to the TV with bluethooth. Really easy to use, excellent photo's. Excellent screen, Good battery life, Like the "pen" feature.
Good Product but would be excellent without the intrusive bloatware apps pre-loaded that can't be un – After much reviewing of available products in this category, I decided on this model, although I would have proefrred a higher spec wi-fi only model with a base of 32Gb ram. I have had prior experience with a Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone which has had a remarkably high quality build, features and was user-friendly. Not wanting to be tied down to a… Read more
small screen, I embarked upon purchaseing this unit due to it's larger screen which would benefit all members of the faamily including my 85 yo mother. Set-up was simple, however I was dissappointed with the quantity of pre-loaded apps that wanted to be updated immediately, most of which I don't want and will never need. The device only having a base of 16GB was devoured quiet quickly with these apps. Investigation of responses by the developers of these apps to users app feedback reviews that they were unintrusive, invasive and would chew up valuable data, as well as space left me less than convinced. Samsung is jeopardising their reputation if they insist on following this business model. It has been one reason I have refused to continue using Applw products. At least give the user the option of opt out rather than installing them automatically as most of these apps don't provide a description as to what they do unless you go mining for it in either the Samsung Hub store of the Google Play store. My preferred choice would be to opt in, trial the app and then uninstal if it is not for you for your device. On the upside, the device sits pride of place in the lounge room with the ability of family members to watch the catch-up TV service of the ABC, Plus7, or SBS's On Demand, plus Wikipedia and IMDB for a bit of instant fact-finding. We have only had it a few days but it has found many apps that are actually usable by the family. Samsung - remove the boatware and you will have a perfect tablet, better than iPad even! once outside of warranty, I will 'root' this device and remove the bloatware apps. Nice size hi-res screen, excellent build quality, easy to use & set-up straight out of the box Pre-installed apps. Let the user decide! - At least make them uninstallabled!
