Light and Convenient for note taking but has it's limitations – Needed a device to take notes down in class where I could hand write them, because I retain information better when it has been written down. This became a disadvantage when lecturers spoke quite quickly because I was unable to keep up without a keyboard. This was close to being my favourite device as it was light weighted and the tip of the… Read more

stylus was sharp enough to make accurate thin strokes. However I found the overall shape/body of the stylus to be too thin and was prone to falling out of its holder on the side. Furthermore the storage and layout of my documents made it hard for me to locate things or attach documents/pictures to my emails etc.

Overall I like the functionality of a tablet and its convenience as a portable device but I should have invested in a laptop with a touch screen instead.

General functionality unacceptable – Hi guys. Personally, I would not recommend the Samsung Galaxy tab 4 to anyone, as I find that after owning this machine from brand new for an extended period, I find this piece of technology to be incredibly unresponsive when loading up certain pages, for example, when attempting to sign in to many websites, it fails to finish uploading. Other… Read more

features that I dislike, are that this device can take a substantial amount of time to establish an internet connection, a few of the essential apps have a tendency to crash, and lastly the tablet does not hold charge for long enough, nor does it charge efficiently, as it can take up to 8-9 hours to be fully usable again.

The type of electronic devices I would recommend, are Apple Mac computers, the latest Ipads, Iphones, Ipods and Toshiba products, as they function acceptably as opposed to Samsung machines.

Acceptable – I used this tablet mainly for uni studies such as taking down notes or downloading needed files for group work whilst at uni. While it does not compare to the functionailty of a laptop, i can say that it is amazing on the capabilities of such a small device. I was never let down by it.  Show details

What disgusting customer service – Bought a Samsung tablet online thru ebay. After 3 months had an issue and contacted seller as I had 12 mths warranty. He was not a pleasant man so did the obvious and contacted ebay who gave me sellers personal info .what disgusting behaviour I was left with a different tablet to what I put in for warranty and also the man tony abounded would not… Read more

return my emails. I have bought tv, fridge and now with samsung and can honestly say they are the biggest rip offs I have ever encountered. Their customer service doesn't exist and they believe they are always right. I am fed up with these big companies and will never buy samsung again.

The Best Tablet for Work and Play – I use my Tab 4 for both work, and my daughter for play. I attach a wireless bluetooth keyboard to my tab 4, which allows me to work as if working on a laptop. The ability to carry it around and use it whenever and wherever makes this tablet a great buy. My kids also play games on it and we take it on holidays and long trips to keep them entertained.

Excellent. Saves me a lot of hassle – The sheer storage capacity of files saves carrying a great voluminous bag. All files can be saved electronically and added to if necessary. I find the navigation equally as easy as my iPhone and the size makes it easier to use. Because the screen is larger, it is more workable and easier to read.

Started well but, – We started off well but need to send it away for upgrades beer only four months or so as it would take days to charge.. service good but now experiencing the same problem again. Have heard the same from others. Have found service helpful the whole process long and drawn out with confusion from staff at Samsung warranties department.

Reliable And Cheap – Reasonably fast. Runs all the basic apps. Screen quality is okay but not excellent. Price is reasonable (~$250) because this is Samsung's cheap basic tablets. I would recommend this for everybody. I purchase one for my sister (20 years old) and one for my mum (60 years old). My sister doesn't really need a tablet but I got it for her because… Read more

her previous tablet can not be upgraded to Kitkat. The newer OS is needed to access new apps. Her previous Tab 7.7 (release in 2011) is still working great.

I got this for my mum because I want to open a new window for her to socialize with her friends and relatives.

Advantage found after my sister’s use

- Great battery life.

- Size makes it sufficient for her to easily carry around everywhere. Fits in a small space in the kitchen so she have something to watch while doing the dishes.

- Fast enough for her to run a bunch of apps (tumblr, facebook, email, google, youtube, playing games).

- Light

Advantage found after my mum’s use.

- Easy to access buttons.

- A great device to communicate with people overseas (using wechat).

- Easy to type in her native language (Chinese can be written using her finger).

- Cheap to own (compare to her friends that bought the expensive iphone/ipad 4G to use wechat/whatsapp, her tablet is only ~$250).

- Easy to use camera.

- Able to take pictures of letters and send them for me to read.

Both tablets I bought are the wifi version. Meaning I don’t have to worry about them racking a huge phone bill. It relies on the home wifi, which is what they should be using anyway.

As kids mode is available for android, I can install the kids mode in my mum’s tablet so that she is only limited to only the essential apps and functions she required. As she is old and impatient, she can literally randomly hit any icons and buttons without worrying about tablet changing a core setting. If anything unusual happens all she have to do is push the home button. Samsung kids mode is cute and great for small kids. But for controlling teenagers and helping older people like my mum I recommend "Kids Place - Parental Control". My mum gets annoy when she moves a mouse to the edge of the table or her finger hits the edge of the trackpad. Tablets are a lot easier for the technologically challenge as it means whatever they want to access is at the point of a finger. With the kids mode in place they are able to use their main apps without worrying about something popping up.

The only negatives side of things are

- Low quality camera.

- Lack of flash for camera.

But for my mum and my sister, taking a picture isn’t essential. So it makes little sense for me to spend double the price on a higher quality tablet.

Pretty happy! – I recently purchased a tablet for the use of having something that is easily portable while travelling. I also use it to read books to and from work (on train). I haven't found anything negative about the tablet, only the fact that it sometimes just goes black or turns off randomly. Sometimes it will come straight back on by pressing the button,… Read more

other times I have to switch it off and on...slightly annoying. But apart from that I love it and find it very handy. I also have a samsung phone so it syncs automatically.

Good product – Pretty simple tablets for every day use, smooth running on adroid games, enough storage for basic stuff. I really like the way it was design . Easy for the kids to use. But i recomended it to have more storage if u keen to add lots of apps on it as 16gb is not enough if u r a heavy gamer

Robust and easy to use – I live with two small children and my tablet has no protective cover, yet it survives! It also has a great Kids Mode, where kids can play without running up bills or seeing anything inappropriate. It's pretty intuitive to use and I am very happy with it. Battery life is decent, too.

pretty good but a few annoying bugs – I got the galaxy Tab 4 from Discksmith during a sale, using a coupon from their website for about $270. ath the time they were about $330. I have both an ipad and a galaxy tab 4 I have to say the Tab 4 is good but not perfect. the good thing is you can use widgets unlike the ipad. Everything kind of works 90% good on it...but the 10%… Read more

sometimes really frustrastes you: for example you tap the screen to launch an app or press the x and it doesnt respond until you click it multiple times or flip the screen to change the location of the sensor screen. programs sometimes crash randomly. But other than this its great because you can insert a Sd card in up to 64gb and drag and drop files like a pc. unlike the ipad which has built in memory. tab 4 is really great for watching youtube and browsing the net and storing music and photos.

Excellect value – I had never seen the value in tablets because you can achieve the same on a PC, notebook or large screen smartphone, but I had always thought it would be nice to access the internet from a larger screen in the living room. Then The Good Guys offered this model with a 32GB card for $199 during boxing day sales (currently $236), so we bought one… Read more

after the previous night at home cost me about $200 for a lotto ticket, alcohol, take away, cigarettes, and some drinks and sweets.

It's excellent value being able to check news and your email from the lounge, and read the news and play apps out the back on a larger screen, plus the benefit of watching movies and TV when away from home (even if it's just waiting for the car to be serviced). The screen quality is excellent but the $500 plus recent models are naturally better. The speed is top notch... never any delays, but I can't say I'm a gaming person so I haven't given it a hard work out. Younger people can text via the internet or video one another using the Wi-Fi. For the tech savvy it can be tethered to a mobile when away from home for internet access. The strange thing is now that we have one we probably need another so everybody can make full use of it.

Also, I have helped setup cheap genetic tablets for friends... many of the cheaper brands have very poor touchscreens which mean the drag and drop, or just moving anything on the screen is very start/stop, extremely inconsistent and frustrating. If you're looking at a generic then I strongly recommend testing the user friendliness of sliding things about the touchscreen... it should be as silky smooth as your smartphone.

It's not a necessity, but at $199 it's excellent value.

Great Little Tablet! – I did my research before buying this. Others were complaining about the screen resolution and 3MP camera. I watched a movie on it and it was clear and fantastic. I didn't buy a tablet for the camera, so that's not important. An added bonus is the lightweight. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone.
