Good tv for price – Got for $400 at dicksmith through an eBay deal, looks pretty clear, has a decent number of inputs, has a lot of adjustable settings to meet your display requirements, audio is not very good like most tv speakers. contrast is decent, can make blacks darker with settings but will hinder white brightness quite a bit. Good for the price – This is the Samsung Series 5 UA32ES5500MXXY 32 inch. I bought this replace a Series 4 Samsung which I was disappointed with. I wanted a smallish TV (both because of the space it needs to fit into, and because it's a small room - the viewing distance from the TV is 2 - 2 1/2 metres) that would connect through my PVR with no trouble, that I… Read more · 1
could connect the old Playstation to, and which had good picture quality. I wasn't looking for an enormous plasma or a home theatre system, just a picture that looks crisp, clear and with no blurring or fuzziness, for everyday viewing.
In summary, it's easy to set up, easy to tune, good remote, Electronic Manual that's easy to access and easy to understand in simple language. The picture quality isn't excellent, but fairly good - I returned the Series 4 because the picture quality was messy and blurred with any fast motion on screen, and while this is better, I still have to say that in terms of crispness and clarity, my old CRT was much better. The salesman at Harvey Norman explained this as, "It's an entry level TV," which I gather means if you're not willing to spend over $1000 on a TV, don't expect excellent picture quality! I'm not impressed by this - with today's technology, things should get better, not worse. But 99% of the time the picture doesn't bother me (or after a year, I've just gotten used to it!)
I like that even when I turn it off "properly" by using the button on the TV, I can still turn it on again using the remote.
It connected to my PVR/DVD player no problems, and I can switch between using the twin tuners on my PVR and using the tuner in the TV easily (ie, if I'm recording from two channels using the PVR, I can watch a 3rd channel by switching to the tuner in the TV).
It has several USB ports which is useful, I connect the laptop sometimes to watch online things on a big screen. It also comes with a WiFi dongle, for Smart TV, which I found easy to set up, but haven't really used it since. Doesn't come with a HDMI cable, so another $50 at least to buy one, but well worth it - no fiddling around trying to match different coloured cables, just one plug into the TV and one into your other device.
It does everything I want it to, and I'm happy with it. I can use my PVR remote to control the TV (more a comment on the PVR than the TV), although I had an odd bug when I first got it - every time I turned the TV off (by whichever means - TV remote, PVR remote, button on TV) it turned my PVR off as well! This reduced me to tears of frustration, until the salesman at Harvey Norman finally solved it for me - it was actually a setting in my PVR, not the TV - it just hadn't happened with any of the other TVs I'd used with the PVR.
Samsung (who I initially contacted) had no idea, seemingly no interest, and were absolutely no help. Given that it could have been a fault with the TV (as I said, they had NO IDEA what the problem was, so it could've been), I wasn't impressed by their complete lack of interest in helping me.
I'd happily recommend this TV, cost around $600 at Harvey Norman. Everything! Ease of use especially. Manual (both paper and electronic) easy to understand and follow. Picture quality still not perfect.
Great TV – I originally bought this TV in April for our bedroom to replace a 51cm CRT (paid $450 at Myer). We have since moved and it has been retasked as the kids TV. It is compact and lightweight. It was easy to set up and tune in. It came with a WiFi dongle that was simple to connect to our network. This allows it to access online content like… Read more
Bigpond TV, TED, Youtube and much more. There are plenty of different apps for it including ABC iView and the equivalent services from other stations. It can play picture, audio and video from our PC.
The only fault that I have found to date, is that it formats USB hard disks to a format that our Windows 7 PC cannot read so it is not possible to save TV shows that have been recorded.
I plan to buy a camera for it in the near future to use it for Skype. 100htz for smooth motion. Does everything. Unknown file system when formatting external storage.
Surprisingly easy to use – I am definitely not a big television watcher - this TV is replacing an ancient CRT TV from 10 years ago which was rarely used as I tended to watch everything on my computer with its nice LED monitor. What lured me to this TV was the exclusive Foxtel app available on it without needing a separate box and router which I would have needed for… Read more

What impressed me today was how easy it was to set up - plug in network cable, install foxtel and ABC iview from the app section and all good to go. The picture quality is really very good, even on low res (800mb/hr) foxtel settings. I bought it for $591 at JB Hi Fi and for the money I am just amazed how good it is. Slick, easy to use, good picture quality, cheap Installing times quite slow - the built in terrabyte HD seems to be the limiting factor.
