Samsung Smart Deadbolt Door Lock SHP-A30

Product is great - Service appeared to be NON-Existent in Australia - When trying to contact DDL, all you get is computerised chat or message bank. They ended up responding to my messages in the afternoon. In fact, there last message came in around 10:00pm South Australian time. This sounds like an offshore "all centre operation. However… Read more
once contacted, arrangements for replacement of the broken battery cover have progressed very well. Only negative is the initial negative impression created by the "bots" at DDL.
Do not buy this product. Never Never Never buy it. This product got a factory defect. It means that Samsung didn't do the quality check before sell the product to us. We just use the door lock for 7 months, then the lock is totally lost itsmind. 1.Can't be controlled any more, ignore the setting on APP 2.Always auto locked by itself 3. The… Read more
touch board always be acted by GHOST. 4. The wifi module can't be connected and can't be recognized on your phone. 5. You have to change a whole new batteries EVERY WEEK.
Even we remove the " smart" part ( wifi module ), it still got a problem.
That means.... the problem is for whole product unit. It could be a mother board issue, but should we suffer this and pay for this ?
Notice that... they only allow return the product within 100 days. It seems to be good to customer, but in the other side, you have to think why they say so?
Because their product could only be used for 100 days only, this is Samsung's garranty.
Now, my door lock got the issue and they only accept to replace the mother board. In the begging, they even ask me to change it by my own.
How ridiculous???!!!
DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG'S PRODUCT.
I must have got the good one – reading the reviews here I feel lucky to have got a good one. It never drops connection to my wifi ( its a couple of meters from my router ) it does what its supposed to and has features that are useful. The fingerprint sensor is fast and is recognized within 1s. The app is good. The battery usage is acceptable Bad points - The main issue is… Read more
that being a deadlock, if the door isn't closed properly (ie... someone has tried to open it before they have unlocked it ) the bolt will stick against the inside of the door frame and guests struggle to understand why it won't open. Some will need to be told to pull the door closed properly, then try it again.
The bolt retraction isn't the quickest.. so again, if the user tries to open to door before the bolt has fully disengaged it will stick - guests have to be told to wait for the tone.
the lock doesn't know whether the door is open or closed - so if you have auto locking on... and are chatting with the door open... it will lock. then when you close the door, you'll slam the bolt into the door frame before remembering that its locked and needs to be unlocked - in all, you'll have heard the melody 4 times and will be whistling it in your sleep.
Sometimes the screen doesn't recognise when you're there waiting to put in your code.. so you have to press it to see the buttons, press it too long and you'll have pressed a digit meaning your code will likely be wrong and you'll have to start again. you'll master the art of hovering your hand over the screen to activate it but without actually pressing anything.
the digits are hard to see in direct sunlight.
It started to fail after 11 months... luckily was still under manufactures warranty so I was able to go through a process of replacement
If you see this lock for sale (even though discontinued) walk away – If I could give a negative star rating I would. The lock was so hard to install that I called in DDS lock fitters to install to fit and setup for me. That in itself took over three months to organise. THREE HOURS into the install the technician had to call service support in the Phillipines. He had his phone on loudspeaker and I could hear the… Read more
"service" centre team leader say that "there's a known problem with this model". They went on to say that at least 10 other customers have similar problems with the unit. Aside from the use of a LOT of profanities, the technician was pleasant enough to deal with.
The technician suggested I take it back to Hammerbarn where it was purchased and get a Phillips unit which doesn't have the wifi capability but it's much more reliable. As he was leaving he said that he may come back to do the installation when the lock is changed. He then left and I had to uninstall the lock (I only my left hand operational).

SHP A30 works for 12 months – Buyer beware, this lock is not worth the premium price, has been nothing but trouble for 2 years. Now the wifi module has completley fried itself and the lock has lost all fingerprints, only allowing the master code to be used. I don't recommend samsung products to anyone. Show details

Worst "Smart Lock" out there – I bought 7 of these at 1 time. All are useless. 1- Constantly dropping connection from wifi, so can't remotely open locks. 2- The app is terribly designed and up until recently it didn't work. 3- Zero customer support, although it's Samsung, Samsung want nothing to do with it. App doesn’t send pin – You buy the more expensive option from a known international brand thinking that it would be seamless to set up. Unfortunately I am still unable to use the options that I paid extra for throug the app as the code to create an account never came through after multiple tries and emails to support without any answer. I am now reading more reviews… Read more
like mine and wondering why they keep selling that product if nobody can actually use it through the app, which is the main reason you would pay extra money for it.
Deflating.

Don't bother with this one – We purchased this door lock to improve security on a new house. I was initially worried about the battery life given it's connected to WIFI constantly, but this lock has a lot of other issues. The first is that it constantly drops out and needs to be reset / reconnected to wifi. Don't rely on the unit being active when you need it. Secondly… Read more
the fingerprint scanner is terrible at best. I have re-added fingerprints over and over and it's not at all accurate. The auto lock feature closes the deadbolt after a certain amount of time, the issue with that is that if you answer the door and talk for a few seconds the deadbolt will close again without you knowing and when you try and shut the door you will cause damage to the striker and door frame. Lastly, and the most annoying fault it has, is that if sunlight hits the fingerprint reader the lock assumes someone is trying to access the door and continuously rejects the fingerprint with an audible beeping. Because of this the batteries will often only last 3 weeks as the lock is constantly trying to open/close. Apparently there is a screen protector you can get however it's another $50 on top of an already expensive lock that doesn't work. I don't understand why a lock is made if you can't install in sunlight / outside a house. It kind of defeats the purpose.
There are some improvements that could be made such as a far better app experience, security features such as auto lock after a certain time at night (or at least a notification the door is unlocked at 10 pm for example) and a magnet to tell the lock if the door is open or closed so that you dont close the door with the deadlock activated.
Don't waste your money. I regret buying this lock, it's not what I would consider samsung standards.

Lock wont stay connected to WiFi – We have the lock installed at our Rural Fire shed, it wont stay connected to the wifi network and the only way to reconnect is to set it up on the network again from scratch. We got this lock so we could unlock remotely as not everyone has a code, could also be trades people or Area Office Staff visiting the shed. Hasn't made things any easier. Show details

Cheap Rubbish with an over-inflated price – WiFi connection constantly drops out meaning you can't use the app to open the door. The fingerprint reader is the worst I've ever seen. Rarely works would describe it best and if it fails five times you are locked out of your own home for a fixed period of time. Can't even use the PIN until it times out. Show details

SHP-A30 – Convenient not having to find the key to door. It is great having the door lock after 2 minutes in my case and not having to worry if someone had left the door unlocked. Each household member has their own code and fingerprint setup and we can unlock the door remotely. Show details
Just don’t – This smart lock worked fine for a few months and then started to get “glitchy”. I ended up replacing it with another one the same. A year later, same issues - won’t connect to the network no matter what is attempted. The manual and app are both written in very poor English which suggests that not a lot of care has been taken to work through the communication with users. I’ve taken it back twice now and have moved to a totally different product. Show details

Wifi does not work – I spent countless hours trying to setup the wifi thinking I had an issue with my router. fine. The finger print sensor can be a bit hit and miss but works. But if you want this lock for its smart feature, look elsewhere.

Nothing but headaches, a very expensive $550 digital door lock – If you want a digital door lock, it works (mostly) fine but forget about the smart integration. It used to work ok but it’s now very buggy and has major App. issues. Firstly, setting up in the App. if you have an Apple device it’s infuriating. It doesn’t work/won’t connect and I needed to use my work Android phone in order to get it to connect –… Read more
terrible. Not sure what you’d do if you didn’t have a spare Android device floating around the house.
The worst part of it all is you can no longer create temporary pin codes using the App. which is really what we bought it for. Every time you try - you get an error saying the lock isn’t connected, when it is connected because it says it is. I can unlock and lock it from the App., I get notifications and it says it has a strong Wi-Fi signal, yet there’s an error on the temporary pin code functionality related to a network communication being delayed (B0504).
I would normally set a temporary pin code for our cleaners only to use on the day of the week in which they come only during a certain time, but now I can’t do that. If you look at all the App. reviews, lots of the same complaints about the same issue. Called tech support and they said it’s a known issue, been working on a fix since June but haven’t got one yet and don’t know when it will be fixed – great response.
It’s also buggy and unreliable being offline and online again and working with Google home and voice integration – it will work for the first couple of days after set up but then voice won’t work. I’d save your $$ and frustration and steer clear of this one. I might give the Eufy Security Wi-Fi Smart Lock Touch a go and see if I can remove and return this junk.
Temporary PIN does not and has never worked in Australia!! – It would appear Samsung Australia and their exclusive agent DIGITAL DOOR LOCKS PTY LTD. Have never tested the lock in Australia.. The physical lock is fine, but the App and the service which supports the App simply does not and as bet I can discover this function has never worked in Australia. The Server simply times out and no temporary PIN can… Read more
be issued ever. On google App store there are some 50 complaints regarding the failure of temporary PINs from all over the world, hence it may have never worked for anyone.. Hence Samsung and DIGITAL DOOR LOCKS PTY LTD are advertising products which are defective. After spending many days there is no known resolution to the defective product, which are still being sold in Australia with the defect. Outside of this known defect the rest of the lock and App functions fine..
This is a life changer – Living rural and with the effects of a neurological condition has finally made me give up on a traditional deadbolt as I am finding it too difficult to insert a key. With the SHP-A30 I can use my phone before I get out of the car, I can use a pin or I can use my thumbprint on the biometric sensor. Partnered with the Smartlock app i can see when… Read more
the lock is opened and closed. I can assign a pin or open the lock from anywhere to let somebody in. The cleaner has a pin, the local ambos have a pin, I have set up access for my friends and the App keeps a log of who and when the lock is used. It has been a game changer. I no longer have to worry about losing keys. I can check if the door is locked. Can lock/unlock it from the interior by the press of a button, your phone or just rolling the bolt.
It took 15 minutes to install and is a standard deadbolt sizing, in my case it was a simple retrofit - included in the box are easy to read instructions and a step by step guide on installation and setting it up for first use and a video if you have issues. There is also a drilling template. The same for assigning pins and setting your thumb/fingerprint.
The lock is sturdy and well made from machined stainless and gorilla glass - included are 4 AAA batteries which last for a year. The app tells you the level of the batteries so you know when they are getting low. Should the lock batteries go flat, touch the terminals outside with a 9V battery and input your pin to use the lock. 5/5 and a very highly recommended product. Purchased from Bunnings for $540.55 with power pass discount.
