Terrible product and they don't bother to replace items under warranty – I have gone through 3 of these external hard drives in the last 2-3 years. At first they worked well but the last two have died within the warranty period. First one I managed to save the data myself 2nd one I sent to them to repair it. I waited a month to be told my data is not saveable and if it was still under warranty the would send me a replacement. Never received a replacement despite having conversations with the customer service team before sending it off that it was under warranty still and they would send me a new one. I will never purchase seagate products again.

  Backup Plus Portable Hard Drive

Very poor quality – Very poor quality devices. I've had 3 of these die in the past 2 years. They have all been kept in a case and treated very carefully, yet all have failed completely with no hope of recovering any of the data.

Stopped working and data not able to be retrieved – I bought a Seagate Backup drive online from PCByte in December 2020. It worked well for 10 months then it stopped working. The Seagate drive won't register on my computer now and I can't see or retrieve my data. All of my personal data is backed up onto the Seagate drive. PCByte want the hard drive returned to them so they can assess it to see if a warranty claim can be made. I have explained that I can't return it to them with my sensitive data still on it as that's too risky. PCByte said the warranty doesn't cover data retrieval even though my data only needs to be retrieved because the hard drive is faulty. They said I have to sort out trying to retrieve the data myself. There is a 3 year warranty on the Seagate drive but it is a limited warranty and apparently covers virtually nothing. I would not buy this product again.

Purchased in at PCByte for $136.25.

  Backup Plus Portable Hard Drive

Out-of-the box rubbish, including replacement – Original Seagate hard drive only copied data a couple to times, died after a couple weeks, Windows could no longer recognise it, files no longer accessible. Had used their software, which changed location of files on laptop I was copying from without notice. All advice on Seagate site was useless. Sent back to their office in Sydney. Got a replacement eventually, sent from China. Windows complained about bad drive on first use. Needed to scan and repair drive. Failed first off but worked second time. Copied data. But all copied files are corrupted. None can be read. Multiple error messages. Each time just trying to access the drive, get Windows complaint again. Totally useless, rubbish product
