Seagate Goflex Home Network

It is still working after 9 years – I bought one of these units in 2011. The disk died after about 5 years. Using instructions found on YouTube, I open the case and replaced the disk and it is still working. The only issue I had was that it conflicted with a NAS. I don't normally write positive reviews but my recent experience with Seagate exceeded all my expectations.
Worked OK for us – We bought one about 2 years ago. The hard drive in it has just died but the unit is still responsive over the network - the web interface shows user logged in but no data. We have never had any luck trying to use it over USB though. We were using it to back up data from windows server 2008 and it was accessible from there and windows 7, it generally behaved itself fine without needing intervention.
This product is rubbish! – I purchased this product some time ago (1-2 years ago) having bought a Mac. I mainly wanted it for backing up my Macs (I have two, one for the kids) and apparently it was supposed to be able to back up our ipads too. It has achieved none of this, simply because it won't even mount to my Mac, except initially it did 'try' to mount, but it unmounted spontaneously within a few minutes of starting a back up. It has never worked since - I have had the Engineer on the phone from Seagate since a few weeks after purchasing this product trying to help me to get it to work intermittently over a year - the only time he managed to get it 'working' it said it was going to take over 3000 days, which is 10 years, to do the initial back up!
I have ADSL2+ so there is no way it should have been this slow, unless the product simply doesn't work. I might expect the first back up to take a couple of hours, but that is utterly ridiculous!
I have tried on many occasions to resolve this with the Engineer from Seagate - last contact (I have since had a baby who is now 6 months old!!!! I never heard from him during or since my pregnancy, which is obviously well over a year now) and he said he would arrange a replacement product that would work with my Mac for backups. I have not been able to get hold of him since. I have not received any replacement product.
I have on occasion attempted to make contact, and while I request (when leaving a message) that the Engineer NOT call me after 2pm EST, he consistently did and I was not at home having to pick up my kids from school. He would leave a message and then expect me to chase him, when in the end, he only ever calls after 2pm!!! What's the point??? I have given up and written off the cost of this useless paperweight.
Seagate should be ashamed of themselves, they have claimed this product works with Mac and TIme Machine, when it clearly doesn't. Just trawl the Apple forums and you will find this out. They have promised me a replacement, which has never eventuated. I have never had a refund for a product that doesn't work, nor have I been offered one.
Steer clear of Seagate and particularly this product!!! Nothing - it doesn't work. It doesn't work - it doesn't mount with a mac, it doesn't communicate in any way with TIme Machine, despite the claims. Seagate customer service is terrible - they can't fix their own product, they offer a replacement and don't send one.
