Spent over 5 days copying data onto this brand new external hard drive, then after restarting iMac the hard drive was suddenly empty, completely erased. Shutting down the computer & unplugging all cables then restarting didn't achieve anything, ran disc first aid on it with no errors reported. Will be returning to the store & buying a SSD but definitely staying away from Seagate, this isnt the first time ive had a seagate hard drive fail, all the data gone.
Seagate Warranty Support - Disappointing – Just had my first in warranty failure of a portable hard drive. It was a Seagate 5tb One Touch. My experience with the warranty process on the Seagate website was hugely disappointing as though there seems to be a process to do it the process didn't work and I tried it 5 times. So I contacted their support via the chat. The first attempt was a fail as I gave up waiting, the 2nd attempt next day was much quicker. The guy on the other end was very helpful but I was hugely disappointed to find out that if Seagate sells you a faulty piece of junk then you have to pay to send it back for warranty. That payment jacked the price of the faulty drive up by just under 10% and that is definitely not impressive service. I have never actually had to pay for a warranty return on anything before and I honestly think Seagate should respect their customers more and not make a faulty item cost them more than a good one.

No such password – Bought one and password setup did not function. Grabbed a different one and same again. I spent an hour trying to get the setup to work but it didn’t. Their product support page was useless on this issue. Their chat didn’t understand the issue and said, “It works”. But it doesn’t work! I tried to activate it on a different computer and their software still doesn’t function. So I either return another Seagate One Touch with Password (but there is no password function) or just format it and use without the password?
So be warned, the password feature may not work as advertised on the packaging and you’ll pay extra for nothing.
