Freedom+surf shark shield - update – Back to report my surf shop has had my shark shield replaced under warranty, and although it took far too long (7 weeks) i am happy to say they have replaced it with an updated model which i believe will do the job. I will say it again i believe this a great device and i urge people to get one - what price a limb or worse.  Show details

Sharkshield vs great white at Ballina – I resumed surfing after the beaches were closed for 2 days after the fatal attack at Ballina. The next break north is Flat Rock.I joined 3 others on the point in nice conditions about 1030 AM . I have a Surf7 hanging off the back of my 8ft board. As I paddled out I saw a large swirl of movement but dismissed it as fish .After a few waves two other… Read more

surfers caught my wave on the foam inside yelling loudly and we all made it to shore. they both saw a very large white shark approach and then sharply turn away just before I caught the wave..I didn't see it but from their emotion describing it as big as a station wagon and seeing its whole side arch away at the last second I am thankful the sharkshield electronic pulse was more than likely the reason we escaped a serious situation.I have surfed with it for over 3 years and had one unit generously replaced under warranty even after the original warranty period was over.. Excellent product that I use scuba diving and for inwater surf photography as well as surfing..Does not hinder the boards turns cutbacks or paddling. Can zapp you with a mild shock on your bare skin in a wipeout..I don't mind that.. reassures me that its working.

The best board i have owned so far – Highly impressed with the manufacturing of the surfboard. Smooth and would transition between turns without a problem. Extremely easy to cutback without catching rail. It would easily work as a groveller and in the wind affected mush. Due to the wider tail and outline and fuller rail it was more suited to 5 feet and below waves. One of the best boards I have owned.

Back in the water! – Without doubt I'm now surfing more often and for longer. I've fitted a Surf7 and its delivered immense piece of mind. And with my bride more relaxed about me being in the water...I'm taking full advantage. I really feel that I should have made the investment a lot sooner. Great product. Easy to fit and simple to use.

The scorpion – Love it,no more excuses, not big enough ,winds not right, tide might be better later, all procrastinating excuses because your [censored word removed] your self about sharks.Especially when surfing off shore and remote surf breaks.Confidence to surf just about any where till dark.Ive used it snorkelling in the Abrohlos Islands as well ,the same one… Read more

that I use on my board, just with a special pouch that straps to your leg,to put it in.Small electric shock from aerial is something that you get use to,but you do learn how to minimise it.

Love it – Strongly recommended to address the spousal factor - my wife feels much more comfortable with me in the water knowing I have this additional protection. So this, added to the fact that having the shield allows me to surf in marginal conditions, means I get to surf more. As the sun starts to dip many surfers nervously head in ... but with the… Read more

shield I keep going until I cant see the waves any more. Same if I'm near a rivermouth particularly after a storm.

I'm an intermediate level surfer, been surfing for about 10 years (am 40 now). I ride a shortboard/hybrid, 6'6" ; McTavish longboard 9'4" ; Rip Curl funboard 7'0". At first I was worried it would cramp my style, but I have to say when I'm on the wave I totally don't notice it at all. I guess if I were a pro I would be able to detect a difference in how the board handles, but for us regular guys it's fine.

Its dead easy to use. My suggestion is to get a couple of extra mount plates ($50 ea), if you have more than one board you will want to be able to use it on all of them at some point in time. Reliable, well made, very solid. Charge lasts for several sessions, and the lithium batteries themselves have a life of many years (you can even get them replaced, but apparently no-one has ever needed this yet). Tailored for surfing. Able to easily transfer between boards - just need an FCS or allen key. Have spoken to the people in Adelaide who distribute, research and service them, so it feels like there is good backup behind the product. Not much. Maybe future models might be able to miniaturise it a bit more. Would be nice if it came down in price. I got mine from Adreno online for about $500 - shop around because prices do vary up to $650.
