UPDATE — within 4mths of writing the below review, the Sherpa compressor died completely. Absolute waste of money. Have put in an ARB twin. The ARB is also much quieter. I've had this Sherpa compressor for 3yrs, permanently mounted in the rear of a troopcarrier. It doesn't get used excessively & it's done the job until recently. About 1… Read more
week ago I turned it on but the motor was not turning the compressor, no air was being produced. On the advice of the manufacturer (out of warranty) I took it out of the 4x4 & dismantled it. What I found was poor design & very poor workmanship. 1) The drive shaft from the motor is attached to the compressor piston con-rod & held in place with a small allen-key grub screw. This screw had come loose due to it having no locking mechanism or loctite applied to the thread & so the motor shaft was just spinning without driving the piston. 2) While dismantling the compressor most of the smaller wiring end connectors fell off. The ends of the wires had only been bared back about 3mm & the connectors had not been crimped onto the ends of the wires correctly. I had to fit new ends to 6 out of 8 wire ends. 3) The pressure gauge is faulty. When there is no pressure the needle is about half way around the dial. This doesn't bother me as I don't rely on / use that gauge, but it's been like that from new. Poor quality. 4) The pressure cut-off switch is faulty. Sometimes the compressor will turn off when it reaches pressure but most of the time it'll just keep running & then eventually it stops. On a few occasions I've actually had to switch it off.
I bought this Sherpa compressor because I wanted something that was faster pumping up tires than my old ARB unit. But really, I wish I'd kept the ARB. It was 13yrs old & had never missed a beat. And it's still going strong for the guy who bought it from me.
Buyer be warned!!! Hopeless product not up to the task and no customer service or warranted warrenty – Do not buy, not at all up to the job. Used to pump up 4 tyres 3 times after beach runs. Got slower each time now won't pump, gets red hot, smells and sound unhealthy. Contacted warrenty sent them the receipt and had to post it to them at my expense. After they received it they said I didn't buy it direct from them so no warrenty. Dismal product and hopeless customer service. Show details
Do not buy – Does no deliver. Few months into using it for od jobs the compressor didn't cut out, over heated, melted all my wires and nearly burned my car down. Will never buy this product again.

3 months of usage and its failed – Id warn anyone off buying this product. Its simply not up to the task. The reviews on the sherpa page are only showing the 5 star reviews and thats it. Unfortunately for me i didn't start using it until well over 6 months into ownership. The Compressor died at 12months old. Warranty department has requested i disassemble the unit and fault find it… Read more
myself which ive done. .... after sealing up 3 leaks heading to the external tank the main fault lay in the rubber non return valve. RUBBER IN A CYLINDER HEAD! It lasted exactly as long as you would expect. 30 tyres i estimate got pumped up over the 3-6 month period of light use. 265.65.17.... not a large tyre at all.
Biggest load of crap on the market – My experience is exactly the same as the other reviews. I am just very sorry that I did not read them before I bought a winch and air compressor that both failed after 3 uses. Now they will not even respond about the warranty and my request for my money back. Do NOT deal with them. You will regret it. Show details
Not up to the task – Agree with everything in the first review. Mine lasted nearly 3 uses. Product support is near zero. Very frustrating as the part I need probably costs around a dollar but with no help from the supplier I'm left with an expensive anchor.
Caveat emptor ... NOT as advertised! Service and support leaves a lot to be desired – The item failed upon second use. The vendor had the purchaser spend over 5 hours working on the item trying to repair it and did not want to pay for the repairs. The vendor did not make any efforts at all to respond with any urgency, no phone contact (all done via emails over approximately 5 weeks), no express postage solutions, no exchange offer… Read more
and no refund offered thus far. The company does not receive phone calls, they advertise a phone number and will take calls related to sales but no service or support via telephone. I now am over out of pocket for; $600, 5 hours of workshop labour + parts and all I have is a broken air compressor. Their website allows you to write a review, furthermore, it advertises as a rating of 5 out of 5 stars, which is misleading as I wrote a one star review! hmmmm.... this is clearly and plainly false and misleading advertising. I'm writing this to help prevent others from the same experience, good luck to you.
