Will not buy Sony again – Sound is poor and TV only lasted 5 years. Obviously known issues and Sony will not cover under warranty. Advised that the unit is not economical to repair. Show details

Poor Sony TV – Bought this from JBHi fi in 2016. Failed just after 2 year warranty. After many discussions with Sony, whole picture frame was replaced. Still this unit suddenly reverts to google tv and stops free tv. Complete system reset helps to get back to Free tv. The Tv forget Wifi password at times.. poor Sony service in Sydney. Show details

DON’T BUY A USED ONE – If you’re here, you’re googling reviews from a bargain on Facebook, don’t do it bro. Amazing when new, hdr and an Android O/S for less than 2k was epic. I’ve had 4 units fail in three years and it died again one month out of the the extended warranty and I can’t be bothered arguing it for another one. Buy a new entry level one at JB’s they’re $900… Read more

if you haggle and better than the equivalent from a few years ago. The power board blows out easily and to repair it you need to buy a new board carefully disassemble it with two people take out the board. It’s going to have blown a few led strips, super carefully test each strip and note down how many you need. Then reassemble it with two people, the strips will take time to get and you can’t move it disassembled, you’ll dislodge the entire lcd bank and be picking explosive shards of LED’s out of your feet and floor and they’ll still be there. Better option is buy a rug cover the area and sell your house instead. Once it’s reassembled order however many strips you need, do the disassemble carefully replace the damaged strips and reassemble. Test it and spend the most you can on a power voltage regulator suitably sized power board or even . Every evening power it down properly and unplug it then plug it back in and power it back up. If there’s any chance of the power going out, during brown outs and lightning storms, power it down and unplug it. OR invest 3 or 4 hundred in a suitably sized UPS with a regulator. Power drops more so than spikes cause the damage and sudden power loss is bad too. When the current isn’t optimal the power distribution board tries to compensate and there’s not enough protection to tell it to shut down. That’s what breaks them, the extra heat these are hot TVs

At this stage you’re saying, why didn’t I just read the title and tell Pete on Facebook no thanks?

Double, double mean it, you’ll need a minimum $300 for a suitable UPS. Email the company about what you’ll plug into in it Cyberpower are great with individuals working hard to help you out, I had the head of their engineers assist me in my query and the sale would’ve gone to Officeworks as they don’t sell direct to the public

Ps this photo shows what I’m prepared to watch than get another one of these, oh also there’s no replacement panels left in Australia, Sony doesn’t repair they send the unit to a recycler rather than try to repair it

SONY tv and backlight issues/failure – Have one of these sets which I purchased 2nd hand and faulty. Backlight led strip failures are common with this type of technology and can fail with all brands. Sometimes within a year, and with these Sony's usually 5 to 6 is normal. Repairs are time consuming and difficult due to the possibility of damaging the screen during assy. Expensive… Read more

because all the strips should be replaced and not just one as others can fail and you will expect warranty from the repair agent. To extend the life you should always reduce backlight brightness in your pic menu. Having worked on all brands Sony is very well constructed abd supported. LG and Sony are the only brands who supply new led strips via factory and ebay, Other brands will usually only be repaired using 2nd hand strips. Please don't ask me any questions. will not reply.

Excellent TV, still happy after 5 years! – You get a great picture, HDR, 3D (yes gimmicky no doubt), 4x HDMI inputs and Android TV. Quite a few reviews seem to indicate it is a problematic model but I've never had issues with mine, never repaired, upgraded the OS as it became available, no issues whatsoever. Mostly you get people who (understandably) are ready to write a review when the… Read more

unit has failed and feel like they were shortchanged so I'm taking the time to write a positive review of this TV.

This TV is mainly used by me in the lounge, the missus has a newer 65x85G in the living room, Android TV provides Netflix, Plex, Prime Video (what?) and YouTube with Hue Stream running the background, yes the interface does start to stutter a little when Hue Stream is running otherwise it runs without issue. Bear in mind there is only 1.5GB (I think) of RAM on this thing so close some apps if you don't need them then you'll have no issues.

A PS3 (still love GT5) and a PS4 (no HDR, I don't know why I can't enable it on the PS4) are also hooked up to it, all run great.

I have the Bravia SWF-BR100 subwoofer sitting behind me (not the recommended location by Sony but I prefer it) balancing out the audio with some low frequencies, think tremble not rumble but nicely balanced.

The remote control has been replaced with the Sony RMF-TX310P, 100% compatible everything works, gained Google Assistant button, gave up USB recording buttons since I don't record.

My lounge curtains are always closed so it has all the brightness I need, my eyes are far from perfect so the FHD resolution is good enough, my couch is about 3 metres from the TV.

Build quality is good, solid bezel, screen doesn't flex, sturdy stand.

Certainly a recommended TV if you find a good used deal.

This TV is coming up to 5 years old now and hasn't missed a beat – Excellent tv, happy with the features and picture. It still is impressive 5 years later! Very happy with my purchase! it has enough hdmi ports, and there are heaps of features I don't even use like HDD recording etc. Edit: still going strong after 9 years and counting. Show details ·  1

Sony won't honour the extended warranty for known fault outside of USA and Canada – The TV has multiple faults, the LED failed within a few years and then the emmc on the main board failed, resulting in bootloop which can't be fixed with factory reset (press power + volume down and plug in power). I showed Sony APAC the URL for the extended warranty in USA https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00235875 but Sony APAC… Read more

won't honour that and claimed the warranty is only for USA and Canada even though the fault is exactly the same.

If you own a Sony TV, good luck if it is faulty with a known fault. In fact most of the Sony TV has a known fault, don't expect to get it repaired after a few years as there won't be any parts available, even if you can get a second hand parts, the parts will have the same known fault which will fail anytime. If you are unlucky like me which the fault is in the onboard emmc, expect to have a huge paper weight at home.

Sony KDL65W850 TV lasts only 5 years – I spent around $2500+ to buy this TV and its not even 6 years TV died. I bought Sony because i know they are known for quality. But by the way it looks they are not anymore. I was reading reviews on this tv and most of them are complaining the issue i faced. It looks like known issue for this model TV and was not Sony suppose recall this TV's? Problem: TV does not turn on and it's blinking 6 times with red light indicator. Show details

Most unreliable and frustrating TV I've ever owned – This TV: 1. Forgets the Wi-Fi password. 2. Drops out of free TV and defaults to Google paid movies. You have to do a hard reset to see free TV again. 3. Has a mean time between failures of about 18 months. Show details

WAS Awesome – I was so happy with it.. Until that one day when I attempted to turn it on and those lights started blinking 6 times and then it simply failed to start again. I called and spoke with Sony and they referred me to a repaired company who actually quoted to charge me more then what I actually paid to begin with. Sony are aware of this existing issue within their machines. Rather disappointed to say the least. Show details

Lasted just over 3 years – Purchased Nov 2016. Loved the picture, sharp clear and visually stunning. Then recently it failed to switch on, with the dreaded flashing red power-on LED. Apparently this model WILL die very early in it's life -check Google on this. Sony NZ absolutely not interested, patiently took all details but never bothered getting back to us -still waiting Sony. Show details

TV broke down after 2yrs - Sony will only assist for an exorbitant fee – My Sony KDL65W850C, like with many others, lasted just over 2 years. The screen went black and would not power on. SONY KDL65W850C ONLY LASTED 2 YEARS – Our SONY KDL65W850C only lasted just over 2 years. The screen went black and would not reboot. The white LED flashed, but nothing happened. It's good but not great – I have been using it from past a few months. And I feel my old Samsung LED was really worth according to its price. The picture quality of both is just the same. I don't see difference. Sony has good contrasts and properly adjusted hues. Whereas the Samsung TV have really bright, Crispy and Colourful display. Speaker of Sony were better a had enough ports to plug-in and I really didn't use mush of smart apps.  Show details

Repeated Screen issues, headache dealing with Sony – Bought a Sony Bravia 65W850C TV late last year from Good Guys. their service agents come over a few weeks later to change the screen.

At first I thought the problem was solved. Then I realized the replacement screen had problems of its own. Called both the service center and Sony to complain, they were not very helpful. Anyway they say they will be sending over an agent again. Not sure if they will change the screen yet again but I'm not impressed. Waste of my time.

This is an expensive TV considering it's not UHD or 4K. Somewhat average and the sound is poor if there is no accompanying soundbar. Apparently it's no longer on retail sale but still can be purchased new online on eBay. Not recommended for the price tag.
