Sony Bravia EX640 Series KDL60EX640

Sony Bravia stopped working after 2 years – Brought this TV in March 2013 for $1500, however by mid-2015 it had died. No picture or sound, wouldn't turn on. I replaced the main circuit board with a spare part for $250 and it works again, and has been working fine ever since. Seriously TV reliability is appalling these day. I've had at least 6 TVs in 10 years with nearly half of them failing within a few years, brand names don't seem to make any difference. Show details
Sony did right by me – Purchased the 60" KDL-60EX640 for Christmas in 2012 from Harvey Norman in Townsville. It died about 6 months later so I contact Harvey Norman and they gave me the contact number for the local Sony approved repair shop. Funny enough they were out of business and Sony had to find a new repair shop. When they did my TV was picked up and dropped off… Read more
fixed without costing me a cent and has worked perfectly ever since (4 hours a day). As far as the TV image quality itself goes it was the best in the shop at the time regardless of price. I have even used it for PC gaming because of the great refresh rate and low input lag which is needed for racing games using a steering wheel. The speakers are small but are an adequate back up if your surround sound system goes down in the middle of a footy game. It has all the usual HDMI and audio ports at the back in fact the HDMI port has been strong enough to support the weight of a thick and heavy cable all these years. Easy to navigate online when using the menu system. My next TV will be a Sony for sure.
We will never buy Sony again – We purchased a 60 inch model number KDL60EX640 tv and despite very limited and intermittent use the thing died within 23 months. It was used at most once a week to view a 2 hour movie. We had to pay a further $189 to have the tv picked up and an assessment made. It couldn't be fixed as Sony no longer supply parts. So for an outlay of over $1650 we… Read more
have nothing. Sony will not come to the party although they did 'kindly' offer 25% off our next Sony tv. In their dreams. Despite being loyal Sony customers for over 30 years we will never buy another Sony product and we are disgusted at their lack of customer service and poor quality merchandise. It's a zero rating from us.
Warranty covers nothing! – This product died within 24 weeks - well within their warranty period of 1 year. Unfortunately we had to deal directly with Sony as our shop (Good Guys) would not deal with warranty. Interestingly the warranty covers almost nothing - as 'act of God' excludes the item from their 'generous' warranty. SONY 'kindly' arrange their service person… Read more
to come and pick-up the 60" TV. Howvere the service company says that they will charge $110 to tell us whether or not the damage is covered uner warranty. If not we pay $110 to get the TV returned to us - along with the list of items we need to pay for to fix the TV.
Yes, I agree SONY has been a great name in my mind - not any more. I will never buy their product anymore. TV - the name "Sony" Warranty
Sony 60" TV KDL series failure – Sony TVs: Bought a Sony 60" TV model number KDL60EX640 and it died after only 10 weeks. Contacted JB Hi Fi Riverlink Ipswich where we bought it and was told that "we only sell them, you have to go to Sony to have it fixed". I said, "But you took my money and it's broken in less than 3 months, perhaps you can contact Sony" and of course, JB Hi Fi… Read more
now want nothing to do with it. All my calls to Sony Corp go to a New Zealand answering service! After ten days and 7 phone calls to Sony (New Zealand) we are NO closer to having the TV fixed. Sony have stalled since last week and their "Customer Service" people are 5 days late in responding to our initial concerns. To make matters worse, Sony NZ gave the repair job to a Toowoomba firm DR TVs who today advised us that they'll come and get the TV in 5 days time when it's convenient for them, because we are are outside their area of operations! So why did they take on the job? I again rang SONY (nz) to complain, and they said their "customer relations" people will ring me between another 24 to 40 hours time. They haven't even rung me from my first contact with them over a week ago!
Here's my plan for the future: (a) I'll keep you informed. (b) Never deal with JB Hi Fi. (c) NEVER buy another Sony Product because of the failure of their goods / and they send your complaints in Australia off to another country to be processed / and they DO NOT respond in the time frames they tell you they will. Overall poor performance from all those mentioned above. Nothing. Poor TV, Failed after 10 weeks and a few hours use, Terrible SONY after sales service. Still NOT fixed. Everything is wrong with it. Sony do not prioritise repairing their products.
