Solid and dependable – Bought this in 2009 and still going strong. Tuner died some time ago, but have been running it off my DVR without problems. Picture quality still good. Outclassed by newer TVs but still great for my needs. Show details

Still going strong – About to upgrade my tv and came here to reminisce. Bought this in 2008 and it hasn’t missed a beat. Great speakers. Picture is still fantastic. Blacks tend to be a bit cloudy but we were still able to watch that super dark episode of game of thrones final season without too much trouble. Fast moving Sport doesn’t look that great. Blu-rays look… Read more

amazing. Remote is awesome. It cost me nearly 5k at the time which is crazy but it has never let us down. Beautiful design. If you’re looking for a spare tv for watching Netflix etc this will do the job.

Still going strong after 11 years – About to retire this tv after 11 years, we purchased another Sony to replace it in 2016, but the old KDL40X3100 is still going as a 2nd TVp This has been a great TV, one the 1st Sony 1080p LCD televisions back in 2008. The picture is dated now compared to 4K TVs, but it’s to to see when u buy a quality product, it goes the distance!! Made in Japan!

It originally came with a free PS3 ( a Sony promotion at the time). The PS3 only lasted 2 years, before it overheated and died. The TV has lasted the difference. It has plenty of HDMI ports and in elegant glass surround the screen. Doesn’t have any bells or whistles software wise (no smart TV functionality).

Terrible - lost my money & trust in the bravia – Terrible experience. Brought in 2017, which was not cheap. The TV has 'Ghosting' vertical lines, blurred and its time for a new one, certainly walking past any Sony branded TV's! Show details

$4,000 TV broke down after 3.5yrs – I had a Sony kdl70" TV which was purchased for $4000 broke down after 3 and a half years. I do not believe this is a reasonable time for a TV to stop working, especially as I could have purchased a TV of the same size for $2000. Sony have not been helpful at all, after sending them all the information and filling out a form, they simply sent me a small discount to buy another one of their overpriced TV's!! No thanks!  Show details

This TV can survive anything! – You’re better off getting an older high end TV with great picture processing. Forget features around the tuner and smart apps, you can just get a Chromecast or Apple TV. The 10-bit panel, Bravia Engine and x.v colour are still best in class for 2021 TVs. Whilst this is a little long in life, you’ll get many years ahead.  Show details

Still Going Strong After 11.5 Years – Wow, can you believe this, in the age of perishable electronics, this is outlasting everything. Huge downside - it just doesn't want to die (lolz...). Seriously, we are so attached to this TV that we just dont feel like upgrading it until this wants to die. May be it will settle as a vintage item. This still fits our needs, we dont need 4K at the… Read more

Panel problems but OK now – Like so many other we had problems with the panel about 2 months after the initial 2 year warranty and we elected NOT to get the extended warranty. FORTUNATELY the customer service department were happy to fix the TV anyway (thank goodness). Great product except the panel quality – I bought this unit on 2008 and like others said the Samsung panel failed at 14th month.I was lucky bought extend warranty so the panel was replaced. It was a flagship model so the picture and sound quality is great and it also has most features a TV could had back to 2008. I am still using it and it is going strong. Sony. Great picture quality and different types of plug-ins available at the back of the TV. Love the automatic tuner. glass surrounding makes the TV more prestige. Love the nice silver remote control. Takes few second to complete channel change. Heavy. Glass frame makes the TV larger than other 40" LCDs. Antenna came with the TV cannot be used in my apartment. Excellent – Superb picture, with facilities to tweak the picture and sound to your own personal taste although on standard setting it's hard to fault, also I would recommend using the "Theater mode" when watching a DVD as it makes for a better "movie" experience. picture is brilliant, sound is good too, a well made product with outstanding service from Sony who repaired and replaced the TV panel for free as it developed a severe fault which is inherent in this model of which they are fully aware, but still the best TV's on the market. Terrible – The LCD Screen look and picture quality is superb. It's just a pity it only lasts 3 years. I am or was a real fan of Sony quality, customer service and brand and have multiple Sony products, but I must say I'm very disappointed to have such a major product failure given I paid $3,899.00 in Nov 2007. know this is a common problem with this model.

My advice is to take the extended warranty if you can get one and don't think because its a great brand you'll get a great product. A great sound and picture when it works + more features than you need and great for online gaming... It simply died after 2 1/2 years with guess what red and vertical lines on the right hand side which progressively got worse...

Excellent – Had this TV going for at least 8 hours per day for 2.5 years now. No mechanical issues. Yeah there are many cases of Bravia TV's from around 2008 breaking down whichever the model. ones as mine hasn't seen any mechanical issues. My next TV definitely will be Sony. All of my other household appliances from different brands had issues shortly after the warranty expired. Best Quality image at the time of purchase: ie. wide viewing angle, good colour saturation, anti glare coating, little shudder, need to get really close to see individual pixels.

Can make a good picture from a weak signal. (I live in a low signal area of Sydney) I've seen comparisons and some brands make pixelated pictures from the same level of signal.

No mechanical faults

Works very well with PlayTV and PS3.

Picture viewer (for its time) was good, like a giant digital photo viewer.

Free of practically all the faults seen of LCD's of earlier generations. Certainly free of some of the faults still seen of new model plasmas from 2008 like pixel burn in. No EPG

Optical out isn't in 5.1 surround

Terrible – it doesen't even deserve a star, sony have produced a defective TV with inherent design issues. At over $4000 for the TV this is simply unacceptable. quality was fantastic while it lasted... The Tv cost me about $4000 discounted, it's been well cared for never moved and has been in the same spot since I got it. After 3 years exactly the unit is useless. It has red and pink vertical bands over the entire LCD area. appling slight pressure to the top bezel will now not correct the issue. This is a problem that shows up in thousands of online posts, it's a defect and Sony should be forced to recall these models. The TV was expensive and should have lasted longer then 3 years. I will be refering my complaints to the department of consumer affairs and fair trading for resolution, if Sony don't offer to repair the unit for free.

well known for failing panels around the 18 month mark and the tuner failing around the 36 month mark. Sony has extended the panel warranty on these models until Oct 2012, I found that on the Sony New Zealand site, NOT on the Sony Australia site. By the way I purchased the TV in part because it was from a well known manufacturer and because the TV was sold as "made in Japan". The replacement panel was made in Korea!! and in my opinion is not as good as the original. Was good initially then went downhill fast - for the price not good enough Panel failure followed by tuner failure - replacement panel not as good as original

sound. After much debate with the retailer and Sony they replaced the set, and it was not repaired as they had wanted. I was not thrill that they wanted to repair a $4000+ unit after three days. it is now October 2011 and much to my horror, the panel has once again started to die, with red lines and multi imagery displaying. I am going to contact the retailer and attempt to make use of my extended warranty, but overall, it is extremely poor that Sony would produce a screen that is so poor. this set is a "pretty" television in its design and appearance, but functionality out of the panel is a major let down......Heres hoping i get a replacement panel once again ....finger crossed but i'm not liking my chances :( if your thinking about buying a Sony set with a purchase price over $4000- think again... OK – Sony Bravia Lcd Tv Problem Solved Many people are experiencing a problem with Sony Bravia KDL-46X3100. They can't turn on the tv due to the automatic shutdown with a 13 flash. A 13 flash shutdown (see blink codes below) is known as a balancer error and is most often caused by a bad panel and can cost you an arm and a leg. I have found a… Read more

solution to this problem. To fix this all you have to do is follow the steps below:

1) unplug all the cables including HDMI, audio, usb, power cable etc;

2) plug the power cable back on;

3) turn the TV on and off by pressing power button on the side of the tv 3 times (one immediately following the other) stopping at 'On' (do not use remote control to turn on and off). TV should kick start;

4) If TV doesn't kick start, continue with step 3 until the tv kick starts;

5) Finally, once the tv is up and running do not turn off for at least 2 to 3 hours.

Good luck - it worked for me and I didn't have to call a technician or resort to buying a new balancer or TV.

KDL- Bravia blink codes (Australian):

2 times-Main power supply voltage error (12V, etc)

3 times-Malfunction of 3.3V line

4 times-Malfunction of 5V line

(Voltage Supply to FE, etc)

5 times-Malfunction of power supply for screen

6 times-Malfunction of inverter or overcurrent, etc

7 times-Abnormal temperature inside unit

8 times-Audio circuit error (amplifier, etc.)

9 times-Fan malfunction

10 times- Digital FE circuit error

11 times-Malfunction of Trident IC or around IC

12 times-BH board error

13 times -Malfunction of balancer Lots of good features but ... see below Many people, myself included, have experienced a problem with Sony Bravia KDL-46X3100. They can't turn on the tv due to the automatic shutdown with a 13 flash. The Tv has plenty of setting that can be tweaked to get the picture just right and bring out the full potential of the Bravia. Just leaving them on standard produces a good bicture but not a good as what can be achieved with some tweaking. The screen works well in a brightly lit longe or a dark home theatre room.
