picked mine up for less than $200 (AU) and that included Fifa 08 and 2 controllers. Now although he recently released PS3 and Xbox360 do have better graphics many games look fantastic on the PS2. Burnout revenge for example. Also the wide variety of games is a big plus for the PS2. From driving games, shooters and even strategy games like Age of EMpires both casual and hardcore gamers will find something here. Design wise the console looks fabulous. The slimline model fits comfortably with most other funiture in the room, and even adds to it. Very few things I dislike about this however I would say that the fan and hard drive can be a little loud and the graphics seem a little dirty. Aslo third party products dont seem to work too well on it, so you have to buy SONY's gear.

console may be dated, but is still great value. Lots of second hand games and it's fantastic even now for parties with applications such as Singstar, Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution.

Unfortunately, most of the best titles never made it to Australia, and like much of Sony's equipment, uses DRM (Digital Rights Management) to make sure you're paying top dollar for just the games that they release in Australia. That means you wait for the best of the newer generation games, if they come out here at all.

For a while you could get these units modified to take discs from anywhere in the world, which gave access to the great games from Japan, but no longer.

Still, the titles that were great are now dirt cheap and can be picked up from places like EB Games for less than $20 second hand and often even new.

Also the Slimline models have problems with the laser dying prematurely.

Still, if you're a parent looking for a console from Christmas or Birthday, have younger children but your budget is Sub $300, then this is the item to get. As old as it is, I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed with it. Great little console, ahead of it's time. Dated now, and newer versions are unreliable. Can't play games from overseas unless modified. Defective by design.

Bad – The PS2 is versatile and so much fun. It has games for the GIRLS. Which many consoles simply do not. It can lay flat or can be stood up to fit any space. It has games for GIRLS, and some interactive games make great drinking games also.

-The potential to play EYE TOY or SING STAR.

The PS2 has shown that it wants to be more than something you sit infront of with a controller in your hand. It wants people to get up and dance on dance mats, play zany games with the eye toy where you watch your own image on the screen and respond to bubbles or karate attacks around you.

Or Sing Star that is a great game with 30 songs from Madonna to the Village people. The Sing Star comes with a CD ROM and 2 high quality microphones for $99.00. And Sing Star will be releasing a future disc. The PS2 is prone to breaking...to put it simply just browsing ebay will show you how many people sell their broken PS2s for limited amounts.

It seems that the laser stops reading the disk.

Sony does have a warranty deal. And did have a flat $200 repair fee. (this was a year ago) At that price i'd rather cut and run.

The graphics on the PS2 arn't great. Other consoles have far better processing power.

Excellent – A truly fantastic console that every real gamer must buy and play at some point in their life. rare and expensive. One of the best gaming consoles of all time. It is in fact a gaming console - unlike the consoles of this generation - it basically only dedicated to gaming and thanks to Sony's dominance in the market last generation, there is a plethora of fantastic games available for this system. If you haven't caught up, you really should (and it's all very cheap now; both the system and the games!). Nothing major at the moment. Sometimes my disc won't load so I'll have to clean it a little, but I've had the system for over 7 years now and have basically had no problems with it.

games. Only two player unless you have a multi tap which can be annoying to use. They don't seem to make many games for this console now compared to a few years ago. The controllers are very prone to breaking and don't really last that long in comparison with other consoles.

player unless using multitap. Controllers are uncomfortable in your hands and are easy to break. Graphics are not very good. Memory cards hold a lot of data. If they break they can cause significant damage to the disc that is currently in the playstation.

OK – The playstation 2 has its perks but overall it is not a great console, the newer slim playstation 2 is a better system but still problems with the cd's. only thing great about it was when certain games came out for it. 14+ years and I'm sure the PS2 will as well. Controllers seem to be the only exception to the high quality of the unit, they aren't very robust and as a result many after market controllers are the better choice over 'official' ones.

Memory is improved on the memory cards with a new saving type implemented, but I can't help wondering why an internal system was skipped.

Another thing that was skipped was the addition of 4 controller ports. This would have been a tremendous plus for the multiplayer crowd, but for myself, the two ports are fine. Game library, reliability, range, design and history. Still only two controller ports and despite larger memory cards and a better saving system, could benefit from onboard equivelant.

now affordable for all famlies to buy. plus they release all the fifa, nba, madden etc sports games each year on this console not making as many games as they used to for this console.

Good – It's good but it also has some cons like sometime it hangs and you have to restart it to play again. It's graphics are better than any computer game. For a game console of medium budget, it's best. It is beaten by playstation 3

has kept selling them as they are still popular. The system is reliable, there are a wide variety of cheap games and they are half the price of every other console. In my opinion they are the greatest system of the 2000s. cheap, great for kids. DVD player starting to be dated (understandably). Sony addons i.e., memory cards are expensive. common error that seems to happen is after a while of using or abusing is that when i turn it on its status light shins a little red light but this problem can be fixed but pressing the restart button/switch
