Unable to play apps as of 2024 – Only app’s available are YouTube and abc tv, tv build quality great but has outlasted ability to play apps. Might as well just buy a cheap tv and update every 5 years. Getting sick and tired of this forced consumerism. Show details

Good for first 2 years then forget the quality and product support – I bought this TV on Jan 2014 after many years that used to use SAMSUNG to have a highest brand and better technology at home. I paid top dollars in compare with other competitors and the brand actually justified it for me! First two years it worked perfect with high quality of screen but problem started from then. First issue the TV didn't… Read more

connect to internet through Wi-Fi

Second you have to reset it every often to be able connect it to internet

Third after a while WI-FI never could be use and I had to use cable for intenet

Forth (worst issue that has been started since year two) the screen goes on and off continuously and if you go over internet there are too many complains of this nature problem on most BRAVIA series.

Now my TV even cannot stay on for 5 seconds that I can reset it and I have get someone to assess the issue ...

Personally will never buy Sony again

------------------------------------------------------

Just an update after Sony service man came to diagnose my TV.

I’ve been advised that the electronic board could be faulty. The guy even wasn’t sure and mentioned he will try a board to find out if it can fix. No diagnostic tool, no professional troubleshooting. He said he can tell me what’s wrong after one week. Cannot believe revive such a poor service in Australia from “Sony”. Can you believe your tv get to that point just after 3 years??

---------------------------------------------------------

Another week without TV at home and everyone get frustrated! After couple of ring to service centre (as no one contacted me to gave me an update!) I have been advised that the TV needs main board. It is so far from a great brand like Sony to get failed from main component. I would say it is similar to buy a car and after three years the engine fail. Any way by calling back and waiting on the line for almost 45 minutes to explain my situation eventually they have promised to support me and help with fixing and contribute to the repair. Which is good but I cannot trust in that piece of junk anymore that doesn't get failed in a short time. Already planned to buy something new but first I'll check all the product reviews on this website at least be more on the safe side.

I hope the part will be available ...

Terrible T.V, Terrible service – This Television has been a lemon from the start, once been replaced, only to have the same issues with the new one. Sony really need to pick up there service, outsourced overseas, by people who promise but do not deliver, cannot even get a reply to our emails, COMPLETELY AVOID ALL SONY T.V

Good quality for the price – I've had this TV for over 6 months. The overall design looks solid; thin bezel (just the way a like it), lots of ports and a sturdy stand. Picture quality is good although when comparing it to 800 Motion flow TVs or the newer 4k ones, you do feel like it could better (that's human nature for you though). I've also recently plugged a NUC… Read more

(mini-computer) into it and use the TV as a standard PC monitor and this is when you see the decline in sharpness (browsing websites..etc).

Sound quality is good, I don't really have any complaints in this department - clear and loud.

SmartTV functionality is poor, it's hard to navigate. The standards apps that come with TV are not exactly popular (except for YouTube). The Youtube app is hard to use with the remote-control, as typing on it is painful. The one cool feature with YouTube however is that you connect it to your phone and this makes launching videos much easier.

Configuring normal air channels was very easy, it picked everything up without any issues - no complaints.

I haven't used the 3D functionality (even after all this time), the glasses feel cheap and awkward when you're wearing them and I don't see myself using this in the future (I think they should've spend more money ironing out SmartTv). Looks, picture quality, sound SmartTv

Excellent TV, very happy – I have had this model 55 inch for a year now and no problems at all. Absolutely amazing picture quality and passive 3d is fantastic (better than active 3d which gives me a headache). I believe the new models have gone back to Active 3d which is a shame and I will be keeping the TV I have thanks. The sound quality is Ok for normal TV watching, but… Read more

if you watch a lot of movies, get a sound system.

The low screen, and circular centre stand, look great, but prohibit the use of most sound bars and centre speakers in home theatres, unless you put those things on the next shelf down in your unit.

The smartTV and browsing features are too slow and hard to use, but playing youtube videos off your IPAD is great. Picture quality, picture quality, picture quality, Stylish design. Frame low to the ground, and centre stand prevents easy placement of soundbars and centre speakers.

Seems ok, for now ? – This is my replacement from Sony for the failed KDL52Z5200 I purchased in 2009 which after requiring 3 replacement panels in less than 12 months (long story) conceded it was not economical to repair. I would say it is as good as the old unit if not better with no ghosting or other picture refreshing issues. (sport friendly) The internet… Read more

connectivity was a breeze to set up and works well for all the free view catch up channels, there is a lag during loading but I am not sure if this is due to the internet speed or the ability of the TV ? I get approx 4 Mbp's on ADSL2, either way the delay is not that bad and have had no buffering issues while watching the internet content although occasionally it will stop a programme during play and skip to the next one, TV fault or content provider ??

It comes with a 2nd remote for the basic functions only, a good concept but this unit gets put aside and I just use the main one. Sound to me seems to be not as good as the previous model but of course most as I do will connect it to the home theatre for movies etc, for general viewing though I would say it is ok (just). It is pretty slim and attractive, the screen border is minimal and probably explains why it fits in the same area as the smaller 52" model.

It is 3D too but have to say based on the limited 3D content available this is not a big deal and this feature will or should just become a default setting so to speak for TV's in general. Wearing the supplied glasses is no issue as they are light and of the passive type (no batteries) but the concept wears thin after a while.

(Update March 2014) I have had it almost 1 year now and to date all ok however the old TV took longer than this to show up the poor quality of it's LCD panel so not yet willing to give Sony any more than 3 stars. Looks, ease of set up, screen refresh rate for sport Give it time and it will fail, I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Great Television, phenominal picture quality, troublesome Video Unlimited – Updating my Review: Have now had this television for 5 months now and I have to say - it is a [censored word removed] good picture. We recently bought a blue ray dvd player to go with it - and the picture is phenominal. Even with the addition of a cable from the television to the Sony TV we still have had some issues with hiring movies - but I… Read more ·  3

have heard this can be a problem with many smart TV's so I have been willing to overlook this issue - due to the great picture this tv has. Thanks!

Have had our Sony TV for over a month now. Picture is fantastic, sound is good and clear, remote control is easy to use - and catch up on the smart TV and other internet services are fine. But if you are wanting to hire and watch movies on this system - well don't hold your breath. We checked and double checked all of our wireless connections and rang Sony to make sure we had strong enough wireless signal (which we do have). One out of 4 movies we purchased was actually watchable as the movies keep pausing to download. You get 5 mins tops and the movie pauses for 2 or up to 8 minutes, and then continues in this pattern for the entire movie. We have searched the internet for answers and it seems that it is a problem with the Sony Entertainment Network and that it is either clogged up with people wanting to watch movies or just a total load of rubbish. Now we have to go and buy a blu ray player with a different movie network - Great picture, sound, remote, look. Recommend as a TV but not for hiring movies on. Sony Entertainment Network - for Video unlimited is totally useless

Now wary of complicated modern tech – I bought the 42 model, and three weeks later it seriously failed. Once powered on it continuously turned off then on again every 5 secs. It's been replaced, but all the sheen and excitement of a 'flash' new tv is gone. I did extensive research and am gutted really. It is a great tv for the price range and aesthetics, picture quality, and… Read more

everything else is brilliant.

I'm pretty technically minded, but these TV's are not easy to get your head around for the first couple of days, I'm sorted now, but you'll need to spend time on it.

I'm just now in that state of mind where I don't trust it anymore, and I'm kind of just waiting for this one to break also. it does weird little things that don't make sense like if you select the logo to appear on startup, the logo actually doesn't appear- I know it doesn't seem like much, but it adds up to the mistrust.

Great picture - be very careful of the networking and screen mirroring – We have been users of Sony products for years. Great picture, good reliability. This 42in is now out third recent Sony TV purchase and where we kinda accepted the quirks with the first two, it is now getting tiresome. Initial setup is fine, internet firmware update is fine with direct ethernet cable connection. However the hype about… Read more

screen mirroring and WiFi connectivity is a little more difficult. I really wanted to be able to play music and video from my iPhone or iPad. So far no can do. I think these fabulous features only work if you have a Sony phone. WiFi setup also failed. The sensitivity of the WiFi is not great, and the interface for entering WPA authentication is really cumbersome. I failed to get it working.

There is no user manual and the on-TV help text is woeful. Examples of key selection on the remote control are not what is being currently shipped, the help advice is trivial with lots of "refer to the device manual" for any iPhone issues.

Great TV, don't expect a lot from the add on features. Great picture Help text woeful. WiFi and screen mirroring don't work.

Sony Quality Control – Purchased Sony KDL55W800A TV on 28 June 2013 and operated for 1 day only before crashing following a software update. When operating, TV performed well and provided clear picture. However, following an on-screen request for a software upgrade, TV failed to perform upgrade and will not operate. Currently waiting on a replacement TV. Looks good on the wall Currently inoperable
