SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Wireless
2 reviews
Feels cheap, but is anything but – The SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL stands out in the realm of mechanical keyboards, offering a perfect blend of innovative features, customizable options, and impeccable build quality. As a tenkeyless (TKL) keyboard, it strikes the ideal balance between compact design and high-end functionality. I purchased this primarily for gaming, replacing my old Razer Turret XBOX / PC keyboard.
Build and Design: The keyboard boasts a sleek and minimalist design, with a matte-black plastic feeling frame. The TKL form factor ensures a compact footprint, making it ideal for gaming. Everything about it feels well made, but still, in the price bracket this is in, I was expecting more. Maybe an Aluminium edge rather than the lackluster plastic? Dunno, it just doesn't feel like its worth the $500+ price tag. At least with my old Turret, it was heavy and felt well built.
Switch Customization: What sets the Apex Pro TKL apart from its competitors however, is the revolutionary adjustable mechanical switches. Featuring SteelSeries' switches. Users can customize the actuation point of each key, ranging from 0.4mm to 3.6mm in .1mm increments. This level of customization allows for a tailored typing and gaming experience, catering to individual preferences. The magnetic switches are not only innovative but also provide a satisfying tactile feel.
RGB Lighting and Customization: Equipped with customizable per-key RGB lighting, the Apex Pro TKL, the SteelSeries Engine software provides an intuitive platform for users to personalize lighting effects and dynamic keyboard setup. The illumination is vibrant and evenly distributed, enhancing the overall gaming experience. I like being able to customize key by key colour profiles for specific games.
Performance and Gaming: Designed with gamers in mind, the Apex Pro TKL delivers really good performance. The customizable switches prove to be a game-changer, allowing you to optimize keystrokes for specific games or tasks. The N-Key rollover and anti-ghosting features ensure accurate and responsive input during intense gaming sessions. The detachable magnetic wrist rest adds to the comfort, making extended use a breeze. I have not had any issues with it so far, taking into account I have only been using it for about a month.
Connectivity and Portability: The TKL form factor makes the keyboard highly portable, fitting easily into backpacks for on-the-go gaming or work setups. Wireless connectivity works seamlessly.
Conclusion: It is probably one of the most expensive KBs on the market that I know of, and tbh it is a little hard to understand from looking at it why. But when you take into consideration the customizability of the keys I guess you can forgive it. I was lucky enough not to pay anywhere near RRP. If you get a chance to get your hands on one, my recommendation would be, go for it.

Utter broken garbage – In less than 6 months, this keyboard has randomly firing keys (which makes it unusable), issues with the lighting on 5 keys, frequent disconnects, and frequent issues charging the inbuilt battery. This is not worth a 10th of its charged price (which is obscene). Sub-budget board sold at premium prices by a company that offers abysmal product support (still waiting to hear back from customer support, though I think death from old age is likely to get me first). Recommend avoiding at all costs. Frequent complaints of the exact same issues from across the internet, all of which have been unresolved by the company.
