Guys - pastry wastage onus is on the chef, not the cooker! See my tips for zero wastage. This machine rocks! – Love this product. Perfect, cheap pies with infinite filling options only limited by your imagination. I will say....people keep complaining about the pastry cutter, saying it causes too much wastage. Soooooo, don't use it! Instead: Use a knife to cut your sheet of pastry into 4 squares (ensuring 2 of them are slightly bigger/you cut slightly off… Read more
centre). Repeat with second sheet of pastry. Now use the 4 slightly larger squares as your pie bases (gentle stretching is required, ensure pastry is fully defrosted). Then your 4 remaining squares (again gently stretched) are your lids. When cooked, the pie tops are square, but for fussy eaters, the corners easily snap off. I actually like the extra bits (crunchy goodness). As an added bonus, the corners actually help to lift the pies out, grabbing with tongs or even your hands if adept. Don't blame the appliance, it is actually of really great quality (I've had inferior ones previously). It seals well so there's no mess and it cooks evenly. It makes great sized pies too, with a good pastry to filling ratio. Highly recommend it. And if you're like me and enjoy a white sauce pie but resent the cost of them...the yummiest/fastest filling is to grab some leftover roast chook, or some frozen broccoli & cauliflower for the veggie lovers and warm in microwave. Add some carbonara (or bechemal if vegetarian) pasta sauce from a jar. It's quick and so, so delicious. Best of luck, here's to zero pastry wastage!!!
Was great for first few months – I have 2 pie makers which I use for our food trailer business. For months they made perfect pies after 15 mins. Now I get 2 to 3 pies cooked perfectly and the others aren’t cooked on the tops. I don’t get why this has happened all of a sudden Show details
Used this a few times now and could not be happier. We started with traditional and curry pies and are now doing apple pies as well. We followed the instructions carefully ensuring a 1/2 cup of filling (or a little more) and ensuring the filling was not too wet. The pastry is crisp on the bottom and the top (see photos) and is a lovely brown… Read more · 1
even without egg wash. As we can control the mixture we are eating better then what comes from the supermarket.
There are a few missing features like a on/off switch and the lid clasp could be a bit more robust but for the price we are still very happy with our new pie maker.
Perfect pies and easy to use – We purchased this from Big W, click and collect was very easy, and used it very soon afterwards. We made pies using bought, frozen puff pastry, and filled it with our homemade stew. Brilliant results! The pastry was crisp, the filling steaming hot and the pie very easy to remove from the "enclosure" and the pie makers was extremely easy to… Read more
clean. Our pie was a million times better than anything you could buy. Next day we made gingerbread cakes, from an internet recipe, and the result was also very pleasing. Next time we will make the gingerbread cakes using treacle rather than brown sugar to make them darker and tastier. My sister uses the pie maker to make apple pies which are excellent! As Molly Meldrum might say, do yourself a favour and go out and get one. :)

Great appliance – We love our pie maker, cooks beautifully home made pies. The cutter is a bonus also. Show details · 1

Love this Pie Maker!!! – Bought pie maker 2 weeks ago and wished it was available 45 years ago when first married. So far have made chicken & leek pies, apple & blackberry, and bacon, whole egg & baked bean pies. 15 minutes cooking and perfect pastry each time. Thanks for a great product! Show details · 1

Excellent Product with great results – Have been using this for a couple of months and the results are consistantly excellent. The product also feels high quality and the non stick surface is excellent and still looks like new. (Clean and lightly oil after use as per the instructions). Reading some of the reviews I think some people are making mistakes with usage of the product and… Read more
blaming the product. -The longest I have ever cooked pies is 10 minutes and they were perfect. 8 minutes for a lighter brown but still crisp. I am not suprised they say they are overcooked/nearly burned base after 40! -Someone said you only get one base from a sheet of pastry. These must be very very small non standard sheets. I have used 4 different brands of puff pastry, they all fit one base and one lid per sheet. (or in 15 seconds you can cut a couple of small strips from the unused area, tack them to the bottom right corner and get two full bases for open pies). Note that the smaller 2-up version of this product uses one sheet for two tops and two bottoms because the pies are much smaller. (Snack size) -Use common sense when filling the pies. If the filling only comes half way up the way up the pie bottom, the lid will be under cooked and will be collapsed into the pie. This is because the lid will not be contacting the top hotplate. This probably explains the long times people are doing. If it's not going to touch to top plate it will never get brown and if you keep extending the time, the base will get burnt but the top will still not be brown. It depends on the type of filling as some expand more than others when cooking (eg Egg increases in volume substantially). -In short..... the 1/2 cup specified in the instructions is the issue, not the machine itself. Just add filling until a bit below the top of the pastry base. (less filling if its eggs!)
To the person that said they didnt have a pastry cutter and it was fiddly to cut out the pieces..... the cutter is the plastic ring that comes in the box!
Worth persevering – We bought one of these online about 6 weeks ago. As soon as it arrived we made 4 pies using sheet pastry and left overs (spicy lentil soup with added potatoes). So easy using the included pastry cutter - about 20 minutes once the pastry is unfrozen until the pies are ready. You may need to roll the typical pastry sheet out a bit to be able to get… Read more
2 pies from each sheet It was then that we noticed that the lid was cracked from the back near the hinge. We contacted the retailer, sent it back and received a replacement after 3-4 weeks. When we took the replacement out of the box, it was also cracked, not just on one side of the hinge but both, and also at the front. The Pie maker is packed in polystyrene and comes in a cardboard box, both of which where in good condition suggesting that the fault was in the unit when it left the factory. i have also read another review here describing the same problem. Wrote directly to Sunbeam outlining what I have here and did not receive a response. We have now received a second replacement (purchased a new one and requested a credit for the 2nd returned one to save time). Looks well put together with a robust looking, easy to clean non stick surface. Pies are great, evenly cooked top and bottom in about 10 minutes. recommend the product highly even if it was an ordeal getting a good one. Will be keeping eyes open for new cracks.
Seems like a good idea...NOT! – I thought a four-pie making machine would be a great idea. I love pies! And home made pies sound even better. All I have to do is buy some pastry sheets and fill with leftovers as per instructions, right? Well, the results was pies that are half full of air and puff pastry that doesn't "puff". In hindsight, to be fair, the pastry has nowhere to… Read more
"puff" to, sandwiched between the pressure of the steam from the filling and the lid of the pie maker. Perhaps shortcrust pastry is a better option? Further, instructions say to only put 1/2 a cup of filling in to avoid the filling oozing out as it heats. The available void inside the pie would be at least 1 cup, thereby leaving the pie half empty when used as per instructions. I intend to (cautiously) run some more experiments with the types of fillings and the use of a thickener (e.g. corn flour). I also want to try fillings in greater amounts. But this is would be outside of the recommended use. Perhaps the inadequacy of the recommended filling amount is to protect the manufacturer from claims against them for hot fillings squirting out and burning the user. Regardless, the pie maker is not what you might expect if used as directed. Continue the experiments!

This thing is a game changer – It works and if you find it doesnt, you are not using it correctly. If you are having an issue with undercooked tops, you need to fill your pies more so the lid makes contact with the top element. If you feel you are wasting pastry, try and cut it differently and consider not using the cutter provided. Show details
Good pie maker – Have made a few pies in this machine & they have turned out good, hash brown bubble & squeak turns out perfect, a great brunch recipe, just a couple of things I have noticed is the bottom of the pie maker has vents & the oil from the pies come out of theses vents onto the bench & is still leaking a little each time I use it, have tried cleaning… Read more · 3
them. I may have used a bit too much oil whilst frying off onions, also when making savoury scrolls the top seems to cook more than the bottom, probably need to turn them over more frequently during cooking, other than that I find this a good pie maker.
Perfect size – Had it for a few months now and works perfectly! I did a bit of research before buying, comparing different models and brands and selected this one because it had the perfect ration of volume - width - height (I know...nerd!) and it turns out I was right! Oh and it's so cool you can do so many things with it, not just pies Definitely recommended! Show details

Total waste of money – Purchased this product end of September 2021. Have used it once to make apple pies. You need a whole sheet of pastry for the base alone which is a lot of wastage. Filled with the half cup of mixture as advised. Used store bought short crust for the base and puff for the top. No where near enough filling with the suggested half cup. The base was… Read more
overcooked, bordering on being burnt and the top caved in and didn't cook at all. Total waste time and ingredients.

WORST machine ever – I've upgraded from a 2 to a 4 Sunbeam because we were so happy with it. Third use, same disappointing result as the first. The old machine took 8 minutes to cook the pies. This one takes over 40 mins so the bottom is overcooked, the inside filling is dry and the top hasn't puffed at all. Waste of money on all counts. Can't remember where I bought it and probably out of warranty but will never buy Sunbeam again. Show details

Works great .. I do add the base pastry without the machine turned on .. you need to make sure you have enough fill otherwise the tops will not cook. Show details · 1
Great product – We have had our pie maker for years with terrific results- I initially thought that there was a lot of wasted pastry with respect to the bottom pastry, but my husband said 'nonsense' and used the 'wasted ' pastry to complete the 4 bases - we use 2 sheets of shortcrust & 1 sheet of puff pastry - have never had a failure !! Left over curries,… Read more
osso bucco, spare sauces mixed with BBQ shredded chicken - fantastic ! Unfortunately my cutter has finally cracked - they seem expensive to replace.
Wow terrific – Love it. Makes pie sooo quick. I’ve done lots. Meat, chicken, pasty, apple, berry. Cooks so quick. Love it. Can’t fault this. Had it 2 months. Join pastry together so minimum waste Show details
Sunbeam pie maker – I bought my pie maker about 7 months ago and I love it but I noticed when I was last using it that the lid had a crack in it I have only used it 8 times Show details
Great fun family cooking – Quick and easy to use and clean. Kids love choosing their fillings and personalising the top of their pie. I love using left overs for a fast and cheap alternative to take away or hiding lots of mushed veg in the filling to nourish my fussy eater. Bonus is I can have fancy vegan pies too without paying a bomb. Friday is now Pie-day for us, just… Read more
need to find something to lift the pies out with safely though, as that can be tricky. I did notice a little moisture in the indicator light when using but doesn’t seem to be a problem or limit performance at all.
Happy Customer – Excellent pie maker. I just bought it and made two pies. So happy. I do not have a pastry cutter; it was a bit fiddly to cut bottom and top. Show details

Very disappointed and unhappy – I had owned the last pie magic from sunbeam and loved it, the size was perfect and with one sheet of pastry you could make two pies and barely any wastage. The new version of the pie magic is disappointing, it is bulky and hard to find a place to store it, the pastry wastage is ridiculous, basically one sheet per pie! Great Machine – It was perfect!! It came with its own pastry cutter for both top and bottom. Made my filling, let it cool. Only took 12 minutes for it to be crisp on both top and bottom. I used store bought puff pastry, followed instructions, husband loved it. Sorry forgot to take photos. I highly recommend. :) Show details · 1
How easy is it? – First pie, using frozen short crust pastry + frozen puff pastry on the top, egg and bacon pie, used pie cutter, skim read manual and a wonderful pie, second pie a chunky beef one, same deal and just as good..... Fail to see how you would burn it...... It is too easy, will be a regular for breakies and super saturdays with the footy! Show details · 1

Pie cutter – Love my Pie Maker, took it away on a holiday recently, great easy meals from breakfast to dinner. Today I have cooked a delicious apple and pear filling all set to make dessert and can't find the pie cutter. I can't even find the dimensions of the circles so that I can make a shape to cut around. Have looked everywhere to see where I can buy the cutter to no avail. Help! Show reply
Makes great pies – I have had this pie maker for a year and so far wouldn't be without it. It is so forgiving and makes every pie look like a professional has made them. Easy to clean. Recipes in manual work well. I have no hesitation in recommending it. Show reply
Not perfect ! – I had huge expectations from this product but I am not really happy. The bottom of the pie burns off quickly in few mins while the top os still uncooked. I even tried starting from cold machine and line with paper cup but no help. The bottom turns black in 3-4 mins while the other part is still uncooked. Show details

Great Pie Maker - sadly stopped working – I have had this product for around 2-3 years and found that with a little skill in cooking the right ingredients, you can make a great pie. I usually just make 2 pies at a time and it has been working a treat. About 2-3 months ago I noticed the pie (s) on one side were not cooking on the top and I had to finish in the airfryer. Now it is not… Read more · 3
cooking on the top at all. The top gets hot but obviously not enough to cook the pastry. I am so disappointed as I think this is a great machine and saves so much time and electricity than using the oven. I am tempted to buy another but will wait to hear any feedback from people who have had a similar problem.
Bottom of the pie cooker doesn't cook at all – Bought the traditional pie maker 3 days ago. Have used it twice. The bottom element doesn't work at all! Overcooked top and raw bottom. So disappointed as I wanted it to be a great product. Show details

Great – Despite the fact that I do not eat many pies, I actually have two pie makers. I brought a Kmart pie maker, but very soon realised it was too small to make pies with a decent amount of filling. I use the Kmart pie maker to make poached eggs which it does magnificently. I will probably use it for small sweet mince pies for Xmas too. On the flip… Read more · 1
side, I have actually found the Sunbeam to be too deep, and if using store brought pastry it can cost a bit of money in pasty sheets (especially if using expensive puff). I made some very nice chicken, broccoli and cheese pies a couple of times in the Sunbeam.
LOVERLY AND CRUSTY – My first cook was chicken and leak pie and they turned out wonderful. The pastry was nice and crispy which will put a personal identity to my pies. my husband was delighted that these were like no other pie we had purchased. the only fault that i burnt my fingers when loading the pastry.
