Excellent, Strong and Durable – One of the best electric woks I've ever purchased. Ours is 20 years old and still looks like new, I've purchased 4 more of this wok second hand cause I'm very happy with the number of things you can cook in this amazing professional stainless wok. my original one the heat control light went out but still works and replaced it cause even though… Read more
it's all the way off on the dial, it still heats up so I had to replace it. A few cons would be the hot spots, huge and difficult to clean, even to store away unless you keep it out on the bench which it will take up a lot of space, detachable base when I turn the dial to release the base, it doesn't make the satisfying click sound and you have to jiggle the wok left to right till the wok releases, another con after washing the wok, there is a white ring that shows up at the bottom of the wok where the heating element is and it makes the wok not look good to use, bu the way to remove that white ring which I learned months ago it to use steel wool to scrub off that white ring and it will look like new and if you use the steel wool to often, you'll be stripping off the stainless steel. Besides those cons, I'm very pleased with my purchase and hope to not have to throw away this excellent wok. I've even made Youtube videos showing me using this Sunbeam Professional Stainless Wok. The huge 7.5L (8 Quart) capacity is just wonderful and amount of times that I use this wok a couple of times a month, but the most thing that I use this wok for is Hot Pot, Steamboat cause if you use brass wire skimmer strainer it won't scratch the wok unless you use have a non-stick electric wok for Hot Pot or Steamboat then you will scratch the non-stick surface over time. The 15 heat setting control probe is excellent but it does take a bit of getting used to and once you get it you get it, which will make your cooking a lot more simple.
Still going strong – This an awesome wok. Ours is 19 years old and still going strong. Looking for a replacement cord, and that's only because the cord is 19 years old. Love this wok it's a beast. Show details · 1
Complete waste of money – I see Sunbeam have discontinued this wok. No wonder - its a complete EXPENSIVE waste of time. I have had the same hot spot problems that others have had. It now only gets hot in one small area and is impossible to use any more. A 10 minute stir fry took at least 40 minutes and was still partly raw. I guess since its discontinued, there is no… Read more
chance of getting a replacement. I have tended to choose Breville over Sunbeam in recent years, only getting this wok because it was stainless steel inside. However, after this experience, I think I will stick to Breville permanently. You need to spend more time on product development and testing, Sunbeam, in order to make your products worth buying.
Very good so far - does what a wok is supposed to do! – We haven't experienced the uneven heat mentioned in other reviews and have been happy with the results obtained. We went to the stainless wok because we were fed up throwing out perfectly good appliances, just because the non-stick coating had given up. Since most wok cooking is at very high heat and high heat is the mortal enemy of non-stick… Read more · 1
coatings, we made the decision to go stainless. Very happy so far after using if 5 or 6 times. Good size, large heat area
I wish I hadn't bought it – No matter what you do the food sticks to the sides of the wok in the areas where the element is. In fact the area just gets more and more burnt unless you turn the heat down in which case you are no longer stir frying. Detaching the base has the most ridiculous mechanism, as you cannot do it without pressing down on the edges of the dirty wok,… Read more
getting your clothes dirty or tipping the whole wok upside down and pressing down on the knob to release the base. Its an option if you like stir frying and dont have a gas cooktop. The size is good for a big family see above review. Mainly the food sticking and the detachable base mechanism
Poor heat distribution – This premium stainless steel wok was purchased when the teflon started coming off our large Breville wok. Unfortunately it doesn't cook as well as our old wok because there is too much heat about halfway up the sides and insufficient heat around the bottom of the wok. When searing food at higher temperatures in wok fashion the food burns onto the… Read more
side leaving a ring of burnt food halfway up the side. It has to be soaked overnight to remove this burnt deposit.
This wok works well at low temperature settings but this defeats the purpose of having an electric wok as you may as well use an electric frypan instead. Modern stainless steel appearance. Reliable. Detachable base. Food burns onto sides due to poor heat distribution.
I agree with this review. I took mine back after using it a few times thinking it must be faulty… Read more
This is my go-to piece of cooking equipment. Absolutely love it! – I use this wok for all manner things not just stir-fries. Great for pasta, curries & soup. Excellent for bolognaise and/or bechamel sauce. I've even made custard in it! Pop a circular cake rack in it & steamed vegies are a breeze. The wok lives on my bench as I use it almost every day. Easy to clean with detatchable base. This is the best buy I've ever made. Reliable, versatile. easy clean.
Excellent – I cook in this wok constantly, bolognaise sauces and other pasta dishes, fried rice, thai and chinese for 3 up to 10 people. The large size is great for us messy cooks and it keeps food warm for a good time. I bought both my grown up children one of these. The stainless steel lets you use any utensils and after 8 years it still looks new when I… Read more
clean it. I think it would be a great appliance for a beginner cook. Has detachable base and is easy to clean, always looks new. The temperature control takes a bit of getting used to after using a stovetop wok.
